  1. Thanks for the reply JohnC, I thought like you,

    Regards Kiwijor.

In practice and day to day you are probably right but this is Thailand and you never know who or what mood they are in when they arrive and what they may choose to believe.

If you live that close and are not on the premises then in reality there shouldnt be a problem, and everything goes through the wife.

If it were me I wouldnt run the risk, it takes one phonecall, one disgruntled thai worker, one jealous so and so and your in deep shi*,

Its your call.......do you really want to potentially end up in a Thai sweat box jail at 70 ? or get the right piece of paper and have no worries.

Hi CharlieH, I wholeheartedly agree with you, whilst I think I would be ok, it's not worth the risk! better I get a work Permit, then I can do as I like.

    Regards Kiwijor.

  2. The retirement age in New Zealand is 65 if you do not intend to be involved in your company in any way then no work permit needed, if however you want to "" oversee"" any part of the company then you need a work permit and will not be eligible for an extension based on retirement

    Thank you John C,

I would be obtaining a Marriage Visa, not on the grounds of retirement!

As I was absent from Nz during the period from 50 to 65, I do not Qualify for My old age Pension until Feb 14th next year, after I have been resident in Nz for 5years.

There is no Company, I will not be carrying out any "overseeing", the workers will carrying out their work under the supervision of my Brother in law.

    Regards Kiwijor.

If you dont go anywhere near it, dont provide comment or advice then you should be fine, if on the other hand you do go anywhere near it in any capacity you need a work permnit.

You have to remember that even volunteers need work permits in Thailand.

You cannot "be present" in any capacity without a work permit, and you wont be employing anyone your brother in law will.

    Thanks CharlieH,

The Factory is directly behind my house, so not being near it would be an impossibility, it seems that even if I have no contact at all I would need a work permit?? maybe this is a case of catch22.

  4. Hello from New Zealand, I have a question which probably needs to be answered by an Immigration official.

I have been in and out of Thailand since 1985, between 1991 and 2007 I was permanently resident in Thailand.

Currently I am resident in New Zealand with my Thai Wife.

While in Thailand prior to 2007, I discovered and purchased a manual machine for manufacturing Cement stabilized Laterite soil interlocking Blocks to be used for house/building construction.

I have had built since 2007 on short visits to Thailand, a small factory for Block production, in "2012-13" I will be eligible for my Old age Pension [currently 69 years of age.]

When I return to Thailand in 2012 or 2013, I wish to employ locals from my Village to run and work in the Block Factory, I will be present, but unable to carry out any work due to a Heart condition , My question is, Will need a work permit?

    Regards Kiwijor.

  5. After a Vision of Hell yesterday morning, following which everybody departed my village, Baan Ampeun:Korika! from 9am Sat till now Sun 9:40am there is nothing but Silence, everything is shut up tight!

I had to go 13Kms to top up my AIS EDGE/GPRS. peace has decended over the area once again.

For me I have been in Heaven since I arrived again in my beloved Thailand.

Now if only I can get some Thai Workers to finish work on my home!

  6. Thai and Cambodian troops clash again at Ta Muen Thom temple in Surin; locals evacuated /TAN_Network

I guess I'm replying rather late, but I've been frazzled by the return fire of The Thai Army who are camped in My Village about 1Km from Baan Korika, subvillage of Baan Ampeun

I arrived Back from a quick trip to Bangkok at 6:25am this [sat] am, no sooner had I arrived home then I heard the local fighting from the Ta Meun Temple area, a few moments later there was a horrendous explosion from about 3-500 Metres to the North of where I was, I quickly assertained the Thai Army had placed Tanks and Heavy Artillery At a Temple just across the fields from my House, there was a continuing Barrage of Heavy fire from 6:30am every 10 seconds or so until a cease fire at 9am or thereabouts, There has been only one or two villagers and myself here all day, I guess if the Firing starts up again in the morning they will leave again.

Just to place my position, I am 4km's from Baan Run, at Baan Korika - Ampeun and 13Km's from the Ta Muen Group of Temple ruins where just last week, hundreds of Cambodian's and Thai's mingled peacefully During the Sonkram festivities of the last week.

If you crave excitement! come visit.

  7. Re:

    50.7% - Democrats

    33.0% - Pheu Thai

    16.0% - Other

Can somebody tell me where this poll was taken, did anyone from Issan even know about the poll, or just the few living and working in Bangkok.

If a Poll is to be fair, it should include results from all Thailand. Including all potential voters.

  8. Hi Pinball,

I have a similar story that may help you.

After several yearly trips to Thailand in the 1980's, I decided to move to Thailand from New Zealand in 1991, in those days a Kiwi was given a 3month visa on entry, it was reasonably easy for me to travel from Issan to Hadyai and then on to the border, into and out again from Malaysia, then return home, a few years later, the entry was reduced to just one month at a time, my friends in the local Police station suggested that I forgo the monthly visa runs, due to my extremely limited finances.

So I didnt from that time on have a valid visa I lived in the community for the following 15 or so years, being well known and never hampered at all.

IN 2006, as I was approaching 65, I made plans to return to N.Z. in order to receive my Old age Pension, in early 2007, with the assistance of the local police, I was taken to the provincial court where I was found guilty of overstay and fined 6,000 Baht, at the Immigration Detention Centre in Bangkok, I was treated kindly, then transported the next morning to the Airport where I was allowed to board a Plane that would return me to New Zealand.

During My Time in Thailand, I kept in contact with my Embassy, and the local police, marrying a Thai Lady, building a small house, and developing a Compressed Earth Block making Factory.

My advice would be for you to visit your local Police station, make yourself known to the Local Police Chief, ask him for assistance in transporting you to Bangkok, where you would hand yourself in to The IDC, you will be transported to a Court, fined, returned to the IDC, and then taken to the Airport to be deported back to the Country of your Birth.

Of course you will have needed to have obtained the necessary Ticket with an Airline back to your Country.

I hope this may help you some,

    Regards

    Kiwijor

You need a copy of her Passport,

A copy of her Thai ID card,

A copy of her house registration,

A copy of her Marriage or Divorce Certificate,

A requesting letter Fromm your Embassy, "if available",

Copy of name or surname Change is required.

Take all that to Police HQ as above, It will take a few days, and cost about 300 baht.

  10. Hi,

    Ive just done it,

    1. go to your embassy, fill in statuary declaration form, pay money, mine was signed by embassy staff on the spot.

    2. go to MFA Laksii, its a long way down the road on the left.

3.Do Not allow translation shysters to fool you, everything is done on the 3rd floor, there is copying done on the 2nd floor if wanted. there was about 200 waiting when I went last week, I was told to sit and wait, about 50 minutes later the papers were ready, the papers I was given by the Nz Embassy stated that a ceremony was not required, just the paperwork from an Ampour office.

I was shafted into thinking the agent was cosha, but they are not, everything they did was wrong, wasting my time and money, there office is in a car workshop about 1 km further down the road.

    Dont be fooled!

    Kiwijor.
