  1. I know a place that sells good chicken satay, here is the map (click to open in google map): The map

The name of the place is Khao Soi Islam. It is inside the soi that runs next to Kalare Night Bazaar. It is one way soi, enter from the Charoen Prathet road.

But there is no beer, since it is a moslem restaturant (no pork and no beer).

I am an Indonesian, and I think this satay is close to Indonesian style of satay, with the absence of sweet black soy sauce.

And yes, there is no Indonesian restaurant in Chiang Mai (I wish there was).

  2. There is a gymnastic class for children in Suthep road. But it's in Thai.

I know it because a friend of mine (not Thai) put her children there (not anymore, already went back to home country).

But I dont know anything about schedule or fee. I can ask her more if you are interested.

The location is in a building as shown in the picture (not clearly visible). Just go inside, you will see a building in the location of the red arrow.

  3. My wife and I are not Thai, but our son was born in Thailand 6 months ago, and he already has a Thai birth certificate.

I am aware that Thai nationality requires one of the parent to be Thai. So, I am not asking for Thai nationality, my son already got his nationality (and passport) from my country.

What I am curious about is whether my son can get a Thai passport just because of the fact that he was born in Thailand.

If yes, where should I go to apply for one? Immigration office?

  4. Does anyone has info where to find indoor ladies only gym in Chiang Mai? No men allowed.

It's even better if there is a regularly scheduled class with an instructor.

Thai instructor is fine, not necessarily speak English.

Other possible names would be body performance/body shape/body fit class.

  5. A friend of mine entered Thailand from Malaysia using 30 days visa exemption.

It will be expired on August 16th, and she will do a border run on that day to Mae Sai to get another 15 days.

The second border run will be on August 30th.

The third border run will be on September 6th, and will be expired on September 27th.

She was planning to go out Thailand on September 27th, but apparently, the ticket price from 3 weeks before until 1 day after is 4 times more expensive than the one on 2 days later, which is 29th. The difference is around 6000 baht.

    Her options are:

    1. go to immigration and ask for 7 days extension. Question: Is 15 days visa exemption from Mae Sai elligible for 7 days extension? If yes, how much does it cost? If I heard correctly, it's 1900 baht?

    2. do the fourth border run to Mae Sai (costs only 1350 baht from Chiang Mai). But what I know is, the fourth border run should be avoided because when you do 4 border runs back-to-back, somehow you will be marked and checked whether the person working illegally and some hassle that might occur later. My friend is not working, she is here for family purpose, but she doesn't have a direct family relationship to be elligible to get the normal Non-O visa.

    3. overstay on purpose. Go to the airport on 29th, and hopefully can just pay the fine to the immigration gate at the airport which is 500 baht per day (so it costs 1000 baht). Question: does it work that simple? just pay, finish, and fly? or there will be some trouble, questions, blacklist, etc? Or maybe we cannot pay at the immigration gate, maybe we can only pay to an immigration office outside airport, or maybe we will be held in IDC to wait for a court because the overstay "crime"?

Can someone give me answers to my questions or advice which one is better to do out of those 3 options?

PS. tourist visa to vientianne is out of question.

  6. Can anyone give me the link, or tell me how to get water delievered, Id be happy with just getting the 6L nestle ones for a couple of months.

You can order 6L Nestle bottled water from 053498581 and delivered to your place.

They sell it per carton. 1 carton box contains 4 bottles 6L each = 24L.

  7. I believe that what you mean is 90 days report, not extension.

I am holding 1 year non-imm-O visa also, and every 90 days I have to go to the immigration to report (my existence and my current address).

You don't need to do a border run.

If you are late within 1 week, they usually forgive it. But if you late more than that, you have to pay for a fine 200 baht per day, maximum 2000 baht.

I have once late for 3 weeks (forgot), which cost me 2000 baht.

  8. I need information on any visa run transport service that runs from CM to Vientiane.

One that provide comfortable minibus transportation including hotel accommodation, even better if they can also guide with the paperwork there.

I've tried to contact the "farang friendly" chiangmaivisarun.com but unfortunately they don't have any schedule to Vientiane between 13-15 July.

I've also asked to some travel services in taphae gate area, but they don't have such service.

Is there anyone here who is going to Vientiane next week to get the tourist visa?

  9. Do any of you Know if there are VIP buses from the airport to Chiang Mai?

    Thanks

Additional note: since the end of March 2009, all Thai airways domestic flight has been moved to Suvarnabhumi airport.

And, by the way, Air Asia fare from Suvarnabhumi to Chiang Mai is around 600-1700 baht (depends on seasonal promo), and for September, their fare is 1289 baht (990 baht + tax, etc). While Thai airways normal fare is 2355 baht. Both are prices from their websites.

So, consider between 605 baht 9 hours VIP bus trip and 1289 baht 1 hour flight.

  10. Just want to share information for anyone who might need it.

The plane (AirAsia) was landed at 19.45 at Suvarnabhumi, and we got out of the airport 1 hour later (20.45).

We took a taxi to Nakhonchai Air bus station (at Cathuchak area) for 30 minutes (280+50 baht), and arrived at 21.15.

Few days earlier I already reserved for a VIP bus (605 baht per person) to Chiang Mai that leave at 21.45. We arrived 9.5 hours later at 7.15 the next morning (as scheduled).

So, maybe, if everything is on time (the flight has no delay, and road traffic is good) like last night, I might still be able to catch the 22.15 Thai Airways flight from Don Muang. Because the last time for check-in is usually 45 minutes before (21.30). It means we have only 45 minutes window time for taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Don Muang.

  11. If you can get to the other airport in time, you can get on this flight...

    Thai Airways Intl (TG 1124)

    dep: 22:15 - Bangkok (DMK) terminal D

arr: 23:25 - Chiang Mai (CNX)

I thought the old airport is not used anymore. If that flight were from Suvarnabhum, I think we can make it.

If from the old airport, we should be there already at 21.15 for check in at the latest.

I don't think we can make it.

  12. On the next Saturday, I will fly from Chiang Mai to Bangkok in the afternoon. I have to pick up someone from the Suvarnabhum airport. The plane will arrive at 20.15 (with possible delay). Let's say after the immigration and luggage stuff, we can come out from the airport at 21.00.

We have to go back to Chiang Mai as soon as possible, because my wife in Chiang Mai can give birth at any moment soon.

What is the fastest transportation option that we can take, considering that it already late at night.

    - The last plane that fly to Chiang Mai leave at 20.45 (CMIIW), so we cannot catch it

    - The bus station is at another side of the city, it could take one hour or more to get there (Saturday = busy hours), and by the time we get there, the bus may already be gone and close the service for the day (CMIIW), they close at 22.00 right?

    - Is there any daily shared shuttle/minivan that goes to Chiang Mai at that hour?

    - My last option would be hire a minivan privately for going one way from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, does anyone know the cost?

    - or is there any other options?

Any answers or ideas will be very much appreciated.

  13. went to the new place across from the original mike's burgers on chiang mai road: "texas barbecue beef".

Do they sell only beef (from the place's name)?

Or do they also sell pork burger? (not that I'm loooking for it)

  14. I am looking for an orange flavoured cookie. It has to be cookie texture (ala chocolate chip) but with a tangy orange flavour.

I have been through a number of Thai products and whilst I can find some orange biscuits (notably S & P), I cannot find in a cookie. I would even go as far as a 'ginger biscuit' hardness if it had an orange flavour.

Anything out there that I have missed ?

Hi, my wife has made some orange almond cookies, would you like to try some? pm me

  15. Sorry, I made a mistake on my post.

It's on every SUNDAY 5.00pm, not Saturday.

I cannot edit my post. I hope an admin can edit my first post to fix it so people who only read the first post and ignoring the conversation will not be misinformed.

And yes, you can come without equipment. I'm sure one of us can lend you.

For anyone who is interested, let us know, or just come directly on Saturday 5.00pm at the sport center at Thunghotel road.
  16. I think I need to post this again with a more direct subject.

We are still and always inviting anyone in Chiang Mai who wants to play badminton.

For anyone who is interested, let us know, or just come directly on Saturday 5.00pm at the sport center at Thunghotel road.

Direction: from Nawarat bridge, go to the train station, few meters after the train station turn left on the traffic light, you will be on the Thunghotel road. Just go straight until the road a little bit curvy to the left, and then on the left side you will see the sport center (a big building with green roof). The badminton court is on your right hand side when you enter the gate.

  17. It looks like Chiang Mai does not lack Japanese and Italian restaurants... But I'm looking for Malay or Indonesian food, where I can get mee goreng, teh tarik, roti canai, rendang or pical or things like that.

Hi, I'm Indonesian, and yes, I'm looking also for Indonesian food, but there's none in Chiang Mai :o

Sometimes my wife can cook Indonesian food, but it would be nice and practical if there's a Malay or Indonesian restaurant in Chiang Mai, especially the one that is suitable for Moslem.

As for "mie goreng", you can buy instant noodle imported from Indonesia, the brand name is "Indomie", you can buy it from Tops at Airport Central Plaza. There are several flavours, including "mie goreng" flavor.

  18. Free admission to Chiang Mai Zoo's fantasitic animal parade

After I read this topic, I went there on Saturday 2 pm with my wife and daughter. It was not free at all. We have to pay 100 baht per person (or 80 baht if you're Thai), and free for my 3 years old daughter.

So I don't understand what does it mean by "free admission".

The parade was just so so, nothing big. There were a small elephant, a camel, some birds (each of them were just sitting on their caretaker's shoulder), a snake, monkeys, iguanas, donkeys, sheep, and a lion. Only the lion was put in a cage. Every animal was handled by a caretaker, so it was like a walking parade of humans carrying an animal with them. I saw no penguins.

At the finish point, there are a big table of vegetables and food for the animals to eat. Spectators blends with the parade, they can touch and feed the animals, can take photos with them, etc.
