  7. jackyseymour, i believe that he recommended chris1299 contact me was not because of my moderator status, but as a result of reading previous threads of mine where i have some understanding of relationships etc. i have personally been to a counselor in phuket and this has been mentioned on the forum before.

i have made a recommendation to the OP, via PM, to the therapist i saw.

    nothing more to it.

There is a lot of insecurity amoungst Farang wives/girlfriends out here. It doesn't seem to matter how much you try to calm the situation there is for obvious reasons an element of doubt amoung most farrang women. This insecurity never happened in UK and I have never erred or strayed in my life. It seems meaningless out here . My girlfriend has many farrang friends out here who feel the same (some with good reason).

I would be interested to here Donnas slant on this because I am assuming she comes accross this on ,many occiasions.

  8. I have been looking for an answer macine without any luck. There are a plethera of telephones with all the bells and whistles on at very reasonable prices but none have an answer machine facility. Frankly I would be happy with one of those antiqes that have two tapes in.

    Can any one help?

  9. Never been to the Drunken Monkey either, but, everytime I drove by, it was empty.

That location has been used by several restaurants, none of them a success. Bad location, I suppose.

Nice blokes who opened it. They came to me to talk business when they first started. I was like"you're going to call it what?" "Your location is where?" "Your target market will keep you afloat"?

They did not have good answers, but like I have mentioned before, you want to fail in business here in Phuket, open a restaurant or bar without enough capital to get you through two years of losses because that's basically what it takes to get on the map and get good turnover.

Most popular katoey in Rawai....?? What????!!

The Monkey was succesful and earnt the boys a wage. I believe they left for personal reasons.

I would imagine you have benifitted from thier demise, already the ladies club is with you.

  10. aaaahhhh! The options overwhelm me! :o

Does anyone have a good suggestion (or experience) for a nice guesthouse?

For the first couple of days after arriving in Thailand in december I want to stay in a nice guesthouse and then start looking for a place for long time rental.

Preferably not in a too touristy spot but it in the near vicinity. Doesn't matter where on the island and it doesn't have to be at the beach.

About a 1000 to 1500 baht a day....yes.. in the peak season :D A couple of suggestions would be great to start of with...

    thanks in advance!

Hi Try www.smilehouseandpool.com a good deal can be arranged for long stay low season.

  11. I need a cot/crib any ideas where the best place to go either new or second hand?

    how about this one?

    post-20088-1215336645_thumb.jpg

    nearly unused!

How much do you want for your cot? Where are you located etc etc

Sorry not to have got back sooner I have not been on the forum for a while.

  12. I'm an American living overseas considering retiring in Phuket. My wife and I love Phuket but we have serious concerns about our social life once we move. I'm okay. I've met plenty of interesting guys in Thailand and I'm not all that social anyway. We're concerned about the quality of social life that my wife is likely to have.

How difficult will it be for my wife to find western women to socialize with? Are there many living in Phuket? What percentage of men living in Thailand do you think have western wives or girlfriends? How common are western women either living alone or with Thai men in Phuket?

And what about everyday activities? Aerobics and yoga classes? Tennis? Card games and BBQs with friends?

As far as socializing with Thai wives/girlfriends, that has its own set of problems. It's not just the language - that's hard enough. The problem is that, as far as I know, most(?) of the expat men who live in Thailand are married to or have girlfriends who are Thai. And, how to put this delicately, that most of these girls have worked in the "entertainment" industry? I'm sure these girls are fine, decent human beings. But, how to become friends with them? It's not just their previous lifestyles. I'm sure my wife would even find it difficult to relate to a party animal with a wild past who came from the same background and country as she did. But a girl from a village who had an 8th grade education and grew up in a completely different culture and who speaks English as a second language, that sounds almost impossible. I mean, honestly, how many expat men have more than a one or two GOOD Thai friends?

I hope this doesn't sound "racist" or "prejudiced." I've lived overseas most of my life (14 countries at last count). I'm just trying to be realistic. Different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, education, and language aren't impossible problems to overcome. Just possible more difficult than it's worth taking on when you're trying to live a quiet, comfortable life.

There is a farang ladies club which meets every Tuesday at friendship beach. 12.30 till 3. All farang ladies are welcome. She would certainly find out about all sorts of activities on the Island.

  14. Hi,

I am organizing a trip to phuket at this 9 aug 2008 till 12 Aug. I am headache now to book the hotel and plan the activities. anyone can help to give me some ideas?

I search online, activities in phuket is extreme expensive, do you have any recommended tour agent that serve good service in low price. Most of the activities are in signle package , does it have any package that include most interesting activities together?

Hope all can help me figure out... Thanks .

  15. Going to drive up to do a visa run next week. Where exactly in Ranong do you turn left for the Andaman Club pier? Is it well sign posted?

hEAD FOR THE BIG HILL AND DO A LEFT WHEN YOU GET TO IT.

  16. Sounds like you need to fence in your property. You can also ( in theory) teach the dogs not to eat anything except in a dedicated location from you or your Mrs, so that would stop the poisoning aspect.

Bit Mary Whitehose but tell me more. The property is fairly open on two sides and could not realisticly be fenced.

  17. as suggested get it sorted or watch the dogs die from being poisoned

Would love to get it sorted. The dogs are the most placid animals you could wish for they just see red when fog horn leg horn struts into the car park. As regards the chickens that have been killed the man next door says they are fighting cocks and worth 4000 baht each. I dont think they could fight there way out of a paper bag. If an oven ready Tesco (contentious) bird would suffice then that would solve the problem. But for 4000 baht you could buy a box of free range black legged organic with bells on back in the UK.

  18. Having recently taken over a bungalow complex in Rawai we inherited two Dobberman dogs ( thai stlyle ie. bit of soi in them) The dogs Eddie and Suzie are great for security and are often seen patrolling the complex at night, giving both my wife and I and our guests a great sense of wellbeing.

Sure they bark at the nieghbours waterbuffalow and even the nieghbour himself. Unfortunatly their zest for gaurding what they percieve as their territory does not stop there. If one of our other nieghbours chickens or fighting cocks strut onto our land they are chased and some times caught. Occaisionaly the only result is a ready plucked chicken walking up the soi with little dignity in tact, Unfortunatly some times ( twice in the last three months ) the chicken is caught and killed. When this occurs the dogs are chastised. But the adage 'old dogs and new tricks' comes to mind.

The nieghbour is very upset that his chickens are disappearing. He says 10 have gone to KFC heaven over the last few years. He is now threatening that he will kill the dogs if they go near his property and says we should chain them up at night to stop their excursions. Thus newtering their excellent record as gaurd dogs and putting the security of us and our guests at risk. I am desperate to save face with the nieghbour and not escalate the problem. It is after all his chickens that are tresspassing.

Any one had a similar experiance?
