A long stay farang expat can pay vendors with a 1000b note but not tourists expecially in hell holes like Pattaya and Phuket.

I bought 90 baht worth of food from a vendor last night and she gave me 910 b change for a 1000b note. no probs!

Once a year she hands out free cakes to her best customers.

Tourists are sitting ducks here.

They have to break all their money down into 20,50 and 100's and spend according to the price.

Tourists often complain they give a 50 or 100 baht note to a samlor for 10 or 20 baht fare and he simply drives away.

This story got wide coverage in the Australian media. It wont stop young ones from coming to Thailand but the elderly will certainly think twice about coming to the land of fake smiles and corrupt cops.

They dont have to steal it. They borrow it from the banks. Thousands of Russians used to come here having paid for their entire trip with bank money.

Thailand will get a few wealthy Russians but most head west. All wealthy Chinese go to Europe,USA and Australia. Thousands of Chinese buy little houses in working class suburbs in Melbourne and Sydney for 1-2 million dollars ! approx 55 million baht per house or condo. They also spend thousands on lavish wedding receptions.

Most of the Chinese in LOS come on cheap bus tours.

There is no way her injuries -being serious as they are- would cost 1.8m baht.

Its possible he drank moonshine or contaminated drinks of some kind.

It certainly wouldnt be the first time a young person has come to grief this way in Thailand.

People have died here after having an allergic reaction to peanuts.

If a young person or middle aged man is going to die o/seas for whatever reason there's a good chance its going to be in Thailand. Thats a fact. Over 100 million tourists visited France ,Italy & Germany last year. How many fell off buildings or were drugged/murdered ?

Ive noticed that the media in OZ likes to use Thailand as a comparison with murders in large cities. Just the other day they said that an Australian dies in LOS every 3 days which is higher than most local homicide rates.

Swedes and Brits have died in the thousands here since the year 2000.

More tourists and expats would die here than in the USA which receives tens of millions of visitors annually.

There are millions of people in LOS working in marginal PT jobs or working illegally ie prostitution. Thailand doesnt have the infrastructure or logistical know how to calculate anything accurately.

Thousands of young Thai men dont want to work so their family supports him.

There is no unemployment benefit in Thailand so how can you calculate anything.

I think if Thai working girls had Burmese pimps then the Thai rate of men unemployed might multiply.

Nothing is what it seems in Thailand. There was a woman who would sit on the pavement with her kid and collect 500 baht then pack up and go home. Her husband had a FT job in the construction industry. Her family were probably making more money than the people donating to her.

The trick is to empty the cup every 15 minutes or so ,so it looks like you have very little.

Some 'homeless' people in busy areas are making as much as farang English teachers.

Several years ago i flew with Cathay from HK to Bangkok. As soon as the staff called the flight every Chinese wanted to be first on the plane regardless of who was called up first. The staff had to tell them to stand back and wait their turn. Theyre heading for the toilets as the plane is taxing out.On arrival ,as soon as the plane wheels hit the tarmac the chinese are out of their seats and opening luggage compartments and heading for the toilet. Flight attendants are yelling at them to sit down. Theyre an absolute shambles.

I know a farang who came here with atleast 6m baht lost the lot but didnt suicide because he got thrown in prison first.

It's not only Pattaya they are checking. Last Tuesday the local police came to the house where I stay and checked my documents. I live in rural Esaan.

Why would the police come and check your papers? Its an immigration issue .

Im surprised the cops in Isaan even know what a visa is.

Police cannot enter your house without a warrant or just cause. Checking ones passport would not justify entering a persons home uninvited.

Dont let them in. If cops are checking farangs papers in the food markets up country thats only because they want to make money.

Its no wonder many farangs are now moving to the Phillipines and Vietnam. Far less immigration harrassment.
