  1. Very emotive issue, considering the number of pages....the Brits will eventually sell them out, irrespective of their wishes and it will be done behind closed doors for the sake of political convenience or whatever. Thats the reality. I suppose they will have to wait first for Maggie to kick the bucket. coffee1.gif

    Crap.

Political bluster comes easy, ( David ).. political honesty is non existent in these matters. Closer Political,Diplomatic, cultural, economic, relationship with the Sovereign Nation of Argentina, Pop. 41m or the daily needs of 2900 islanders. I wonder !!.......... Over the 30 years of the conflict in Northern Ireland, 11 secret meetings took place between the terrorist IRA and British Governments ( released state papers) ?? while those same British governments ( both Lab + Con ) insisted time and time again throughout the conflict, that they would never, never talk to terrorists rolleyes.gif The state papers on the Falklands of 30 years ago are extremely interesting, if you research. Read Lord Carringtons comments ( foreign Sec). Geography and common sense will dictate the eventual withdrawal. Hopefully it can be done in a way which safeguards the needs of the Islanders. ..ie Hong Kong. coffee1.gif

There is a small hotel in PK , name of PUTACHAD, located to the rear of the Farmers bank.

  7. The Kingpin of the Falang meetings in Tesco is old John ( aussie ) He makes a big effort to get falangs talking to each other. sad.png He is there most Friday afternoons. Be ready for a fair bit of sarcasm from him, all in very good humour and if you have car...well, he might ask for a lift home biggrin.png ( 10km )................Draught lager sold in Tesco at the food court.

  8. Ahhh - maybe that is what she means, I haven't seen it myself yet, will investigate further,

@ CTO...NO, back in the old sod and lousy weather, grey skies, grey buildings, grey roads, but a wise traveler shoulld never depise his own country. Jan reading your post with a big smile on her face. smile.png Hope to move permanently later in the year.

  9. I visit North east Thailand a number of times through the year and i make it a condition of my visit that i do not get involved in all that crap to do with praying to gold leaf statues, Monks,Temples, and Merit making. My wife also sincerely believes its crap and she is convinced its a way to keep Thai people subservient and poor. She has lived in Europe for 10 years. The Duke of Wellington once said " If i was born in a stable does that make me a horse " ....in otherwords i am Falang and that i shall remain in my everyday living, i am here for the weather, and maybe cheap living, nothing else clap2.gif

  10. There was another Ex-pat in SDD who made a complete ass of himself, but i believe he is gone.... thumbsup.gif Met alot of Farangs around SDD who were not very sociable, maybe they think their shit dosent smell laugh.png .

A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg, even if you are half <deleted> cracked. biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

  11. Nice way to chill out for an evening is a visit to the huge lake/dam south of Phon Khun.....take some beer/food/camera and watch the sun setting over the lake. Beautiful. Going east on 22 take a right in Phon Khun on 227 and take a left past the college.

Boxing is a sport i dislike, Thai or otherwise. Fail to understand how enjoyment/pleasure can be derived from watching two persons face punch or kick the <deleted> out of one another. Sadistic pleasure ? rolleyes.gif

  12. I see a hoarding across from Tesco advertising a new hotel for SD town ?? .... yeah agree, great english breakfast in Kens Kangaroo Pizza place..........not looking for Farang restaurants but i do like a good atmospheric bar with good music and the toilets in bars....enough said. w00t.gif Porns Bar most nights has a good band ,..... but its early days for the bar strip in SDD. .....and your right its who you have a beer with that makes a night ( or a day ) biggrin.png .......few very boring ex-pats around SDD, top of the list is a guy name starts with R..thumbsup.gif
New Tesco Express due to locate rear of Bangkok Bank opposite side from 7eleven...site cleared.

    FUNNY STORY

There is another hospital heading east on 22, on left just before Phon Khun. About 3 years ago my wife had major surgery on her lower abdomen there, ...her choice of hospital as its very close to her home town. She had a private room with a toilet attached which had an Asian pan. She found it near impossible to use the Asian hole with a line of fresh stitches on her lower abdomen, so i suggested to the manager that it might be more convienent for patients to have a western toilet fitted. The manager said "that we already fitted TWO western toilets in that room but the farmers from the villages broke both in not being able to use the western toilet, they kept standing up them to go to the toilet". True story. cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  13. Interesting to notice how the bar/food business is in its beginnings and starting too develop on one street, but at this stage not a decent comfortable bar in SDD. The resorts are nice, but certainly do not have a bar atmosphere, otherwise SDD has good facilities in terms of shopping, and including a newly built hospital. It does get boring in town, but for an escape, UDON is only 45 mins drive on a good road ,most dual-carriagway.
