  1. Hello cmsally,

Although more expensive, I definitely recommend one on one course. The best way to improve fast.

I'm sure that on this forum or City Life and Chiang Mail Mail classified, you can find plenty of excellent well qualified native-speakers willing to teach private :o

PS : How is going the "fight" against the Pharaonic project of our beloved Municipality ?

  2. These are not International schools but Thai schools with bilingual programme

    Prince Royal's College http://www.prc.ac.th/

    Montfort matayom http://www.montfort.ac.th/

    Dara Academy arts school http://www.dara.ac.th/dara3/index.php

    Regina Coeilli http://www.regina.ac.th/

    Varee Chaingmai School (VCS)

    Wichai Wittalayai

Except "WICHAI WITTALAYAI" and MONFORT (Only from Mathayom 4), I'm 100% sure that the aforementioned schools DO NOT have a bilingual program (EP). Some might have an ESP (English Special Program), which is not the same at all.

  3. uote]IMO the lovely lady mayor will sympathetically listen to all the concerned foreigners who obviously care about the city they have chosen to live in. She will also promise to do her best to stop this outrageous plan. After all, her election platform was to make Chiang Mai cleaner and less polluted, but I would love to be there when somebody points out it's HER signature that approved the plans back in August. Many of us have been here long enough to know exactly what is happening.

    :o

  4. Conclusion is it supports the well known fact that the Songthaew owners/drivers have a strong politically motivated/backed union/organisation/mafia that is protecting their interests. My understanding is that's why we have almost no meter taxis, a dismal bus service and no motorcycle taxis in CM. Apparently they can only get a licence for a new meter taxi if they scrap a Songthaew first; as you can tell by the number of red wrecks on the road that doesn't happen too frequently. Get used to it as its not going to change anytime soon.

Unfortunately you're right, a lost cause I'm afraid, yes... :o

  5. The solution is very simple indeed : DISCIPLINE. Thai drivers' lack of discipline AND laziness is probably a big part of the traffic's problems in CM.

How many times have I seen a small soi or a road blocked because some brainless idiots were parking their SUV or Pick Up nearly in the middle of the way, just because they were too lazy to park 50-100 M away, even too lazy to step out of their car to buy their noodles at their favourite food stall... :o Discipline, education...

One solution would be to limit the cars in CM, like in big cities in Japan : You live IN the city (not commuter) and you want to buy a car ? If you can prove you have a place to park it, ok; if you don't, well you're not allowed to buy it.

And - I know many people will disagree with me - one of the major problem when it comes to traffic and pollution is the RED SONGTHAEWS : Sure they are useful, but there are TOO MANY and most of them are antediluvian piece of ****. Plus they stop wherever they want, don't give a **** about the traffic lights and other basic traffic rules, thus they are a REAL danger for the others, especially bikes and pedestrians.

During my holidays I spent some time checking this :

I went to Moon Muang, Hua Kaew, Tha Pae, CM-Lamphun and Chang Khlan. At all those streets, between 8 am - 9 am and 4 pm - 6 pm, 75% of the songthaews I saw were EMPTY, 20% had 1 up to 5 passengers and 5% were full... One morning, riding my bike, I counted 24 EMPTY Songthaews between Naowarat Bridge and Tha Pae Gate... Conclusion ? :D

  6. Rubbing a cats nose in pee is a no no, thats dogs!! They will hate you for it.

Ooops, my bad, I thought it worked for both :D So far I've had only dogs, that's why.

The other cat that is using the litter tray correctly I am assuming it is the dominant cat...

    Actually yes, she is !!!

Maybe they each need their own sandbox. If "the " sandbox is one, then being used by one cat it could be seen as its territory.
    Best create a separate spot...

Yes, it seems to make sense, I'm gonna try it right away :D

Many many thanks "ozsamuari" and "cmsally" for your advices :o:D:D

  7. We've got two adorable female cats (18 months). One does her "thing" properly in the sandbox :o , the other one (despite having spread pepper in the corners + some punishment such as wiping her pee with her nose) keeps peeing everywhere except in the sandbox :D

Last time I was there I forgot to ask the vet about that. Do you have any idea what's the cause of such behavior ? Any suggestions are very welcome :D

  8. Yes, something really needs to be done, 'cause if this "Pharaonic" project is implemented, it will mean the end of Chiang Mai, simply... Do the authorities realize that ?

As expats and guests here, there's not much we can do, so it means that the Thai people who'll be affected by this project (around 80% of CM's population...) MUST move their asses NOW and get organized.

Once again, the "MAI PEN RAI" mentality is destroying a part of this beautiful country, truly sad :o

  9. Ken, is that the big matayom school behind Carrefour on the superhighway, with a big blue rocket tower? If so, feel free to PM me.

@ PeaceBlondie : You used to work here ? Me too... Same feeling :o ???

  10. If any of you know of some brave Thai fellow who is willing to climb up there and not only identify the invading critters (the snake is more than welcome to stay) but examine/repair the edges of the roof to block access, I would be glad to hear of him. If he doesn't come back down, I will just assume that the rats/snakes/whatever will take care of his remains cuz I ain't going up there. I have balls but I would like to keep them... :(

    :D:D:D

I was just eating a mouthful of delicious penne rigate with tuna sauce, when I read your thread... half of it got stuck in my throat and the other half ended on my keyboard ... I turned blue 'cause I was suffocating plus now I've got to clean the mess... Many thanks :o But it was a good laugh... :D

  11. I never heard before that there is any partnership between THAI and Qantas. It seems unlikely. They are members of opposing airline alliance programs and are direct competitors on many routes.

    Yes,

    - Qantas ---> One World

    - Thai ------> Star Alliance

    :o
