  1. not wearing bike helmets when its law to do so.

smoking in bars and restaurants when its now law not to.

Turning into one way streets( top end of soi green mango comes to mind)

Riding motor bike against the flow of traffic for convenience sake.

These are just a few that comes to mind, can you list some more.Personally i love this quirkyness, does n't bother me at all but i could see it might anoy others.

How good is the new ghost road?I know not part of topic but i went down there the other night quick fast(without helmet!)far cry from a year ago when it looked like a WW1 battle field.

it is THEIR country. What? are they supposed to do all things like they in your country? :D

as i said in the post i was n't complaining..............i do all of the things i mentioned too"when in rome do as the romans do"

I didn't interpret your post as a complaint either. The Thais have the right to do it 'their way' - this is Thailand. I actually think it can become an interesting and amusing thread (although some people may take the opportinity to 'have a dig', or be overly defensive - as above.

    "overly defensive"? :o

    OK - "defensive" :D

Oh...I get it...this is the Thai bashing thread!...no problem with that, but I do find that tiresome, not "defensive" at all...just find you all pathetic...if you don't like, try to change, if you cannot, get out...I did with my country. But to spend your time whinning about...really "bitching" about...what you don't like here?....that's rather lady (or lady-boy) like, no? So please, bitches, man up and get on with it. :D

  2. try siam legal www.siamlegal.com

ya, good luck :o and are they even on Samui, I mean really who and where? BTW: if you are wondering why I say that Boater, and you all, its because they have no clue what they are doing especially with regard to tax implications...but, before I back up what I say...wait, are they a sponsor of our gracious host here...like tacobelt "legal advisors"? :D

If you want truly compentent legal counsel go to BKK to one of the truly reputable firms.

  3. Anyone sure that no one was hurt????

I found out late afternoon yesterday that there was in fact someone hurt quite badly.

One of my customers has a Thai wife who had got up early to go to the temple and went to 7-11 on the way home. She had just opened the door of 7-11 when the vehicle hit the pole and her. She ended up under the pickup and caught fire when the gasoline etc ignited. She managed to crawl out by herself and with the help of a young lad from 7-11 roll in the dirt to get the flames out.

She was till strong enough and conscious enough to give her motorbike keys to the boy and tell him to take her to hospital. So with most of her hair gone, 3rd degree burns over a significant part of her body, skin falling off, she clung to the back of the 7-11 boy as he took her down the ghost road to Bandon hospital.

While this is not the best way to get to hospital it was probably the fastest and with significant burns, speed is of the essence. After taking the lady to hospital, the boy then took the motorbike to the husband and with little English managed to communicate to him where his wife was. It still amazes me the strength of Dang who must have been able to communicate where her house was to the boy while still in a state of shock etc from the accident and burns.

I met with her husband last night and he states she is stable, is bandaged from head to toe with just her eyes nose and mouth showing. They had just wheeled in the portable x-ray machine to check for broken bones etc, but it appears that there was not too much of that.

The family of the driver had been in visiting and the driver is currently with the police.

It is an amazing story of personal courage on both Dang and the boys part, and because it happened so quickly and without any ambulances etc it got missed by most people.

The husband has been in Samui a number of years, was previously partner in a bar in Bophut and had a serious accident a few years ago and spent months in Hospital with his caring wife by his side. It looks like he will unfortunately get to return the favour.

If anyone wants more details, please PM me.

very good info BBC, thanks...hope the very best for that poor girl and that karma does right by both her and guy who got her in hospital. Any further word as to the what caused it? where and how is the truck driver?

  6. I stopped at the 7/11 in Bo Phut next to Fisherman's Village to get money out of the Bank of Ayudhya ATM there, walked up to the ATM and instead of seeing yellow, I saw blue! They have completely switched out the ATM to be a BKK Bank ATM!

I'm just curious why this would happen, and yes, I am very sure it was always a BOA ATM before.

    PA

you're right it was...big deal, the lease contract expired or was sold.

  7. its enough, very loud musice untille 6am in the morning, wen will our present goverment do something about this, 8000 people (thai and exprts) life in this area and have to work next day. we see that our police is jusless only able to take monye from the mafia, please get new police who respect the bage on there chest. :o

Agree!..keeps me up too.... but the only way the lake parties will go away is when that land becomes too valuable to just sit there all month waiting for 4 or 5 hours of pathetic and annoyning partying.

  8. Generally however, no official police statement means no coverage of a crime in the Thai press.

Very disturbing :o We're no safer than living in Iraq :D

we are until america decides to bring democracy here! :D ...then its time to run!

  9. I read this in Bangkok Post 'postbag' too. I also found it to be quite an amazing story. We will have to wait until tomorrows paper to see if there is any follow up story.

Follow up story? Are you familiar with journalism in Thailand? All i'm saying is i wouldn't count on it.

Indeed, see Post page 3 today (Sunday) . . .and you think any reporters are gonna follow up a police execution? the police don't get arrested...they become ministers of interior here.

  10. I was kidding with my last post btw. I have no idea about a movie or not but if this was mythbusters, I say it's plausible.

If so the Post editor who decided to print the letter is certainly an idiolt.

  11. Yesterday 6 Westerners have been caught with drugs worthwhile 50 Million THB on a yacht, according to a Thai mobile phone news service. It has not been mentioned which drugs have been found nor was the nationality of the people involved disclosed.

Could that explain yesterday's helicopter over Samui?

So far neither the Bangkok Post, the Nation or any of the Thainews papers have reported on this. Most likely soon to change.

ya, wondered about the helicopter too. will be interesting to see if true and if its reported.

  12. so until now and for the past 2 months since you joined the forum...

    1. You dismissed Samui lawyers and not knowing the law. while you were NEVER a lawyer here. its questionable by your replies if you ever were. as apart from "sounding all important" you have yet to present even one legal formulated opinion.

and you?...beyond being a member of Star Fleet...with your outer space advise...ooppps...by the way Spock, it's "advice."

    2. you insist to get free legal advise on a web forum and request a complete legal explanations

NO! I just want YOU to back up you "legal advice"....cite your sources, so others can if you are correct.

while you present your self as "knowing the law" dismissing replies as "Horribly wrong" or as dangerous while never addressing the issue...

yes, you are very, dangerous...to anyone who listens to you. Wait, not "anyone" ...sure you order food very well, etc...just your "legal advice."

    3. although you promised to send us a legal explanation on the 30 year lease post its been a month and still no answer!!!

so many poster are waiting for your "words of wisdom" all lined up with citation to the relevant law and explained with a well documented legal opinion.

Again, you have MANY questions pending...THAT was the deal...once you answer them...we can proceed. I have no interest in spending time educating you or event the readers. BUT more than happy to show folks that you don't know what you are talking about.BTW...isnt this YOU needing ME to give YOU...free legal advice...at least you...asking for it?

What are you short specific...very specific questions...I will enlighten you...if needed

    4. you dismissed the police

    WHAT? I reject your defamation.

    5. you dismiss and discredited posters who have a different view opinion yet you never support or explain your posts.

Really?...sounds like you SPOCK!...you use big words and talk "educated" AND sometimes know stuff that others don't...but you clearly have NO clue about the law, no REAL legal training...and then you go, yes, "horribly wrong". I do support my posts, I am NOT going to spend my time debating with a Trekie....give me one truly salient legal issue where you think you me wrong and I will be MORE than happy to show folks how little you know.

    6. you keep using the "i don't get your point" when intact its difficult to understand your points as well.

okay, please make your points, generally your elementry school gibberish is, well, hard to follow, not to mention, illogicial.

    7. you ask for ADVISE and then contradict, and criticize any one who has taken the time to reply to you.

that would be "ADVICE"...no, don't need YOUR advice...note that, "advice"...and do NOT criticize ANYone...only those I have learned to be not so dependable sources of information...like you.

    8. you correct others English spelling mistakes while your posts are full of typing and grammatical errors.

Please show me...typos aside, yeswe all do them...waiting for your incredible grammatical knowledge, Spock.

    9. you hide behind your anonymity in this forum dismiss and criticize while not contributing one positive input.

not agree whatsoever...for one putting folks on warning that the should NOT take your advice on the law here...is , I think, VERY positive (otherwise I would not spend my time doing it)...for others at least, maybe not your Spock ego.

have made several attempts of toning you down and even tried to use humor and assist you hoping that you tone down the rhetorics.

    it ends here..

you are full of it :o

the last thing you friend needs is you helping him in his legal case.. you are causing him and probably will cause more damage with your behavior.

don't worry with this attitude you will get your day in court.

your lack of respect and attitude to others along with your superiority complex make you a dangerous person to your self as well as others.

you don't know and don't understand the Law and you don't understand the Phrase "system" (its not a recommendation to break the law you fool.. the "system" is all the processes and technicalities used in administrative context when filing a case in court) thus proving you have no legal expertise or understanding of legal slang in this country.

a local lawyer who is more familiar with the local administrative and process will be able to speed up and be more efficient in handling the case. it as not a recommendation to break the law but how to utilize it better.but you are to arrogant to know or understand that.

the last thing your friend needs to do is listen to you.. i for one have stopped.

sorry, but that? what was that? was that a momentary break with logic Spock?...if so, refreshing...perhaps you ARE still capable of learning?

  13. BTW: its not your "advise"...its "advice"...so, ya, you are correct...why would I take it and I DO know better than you, for SURE

From this, are you a samui lawyer ??? as you seem to put down the more better lawyers on Samui but promote a few less reptable ones ?, also you are looking for an answer that has been answered for you but you keep it draged on ?

You seem that you are looking for someone to mention a lawyer for you to say YES they are great, which maybe your firm

Correct me if i am wrong

Okee Dokee, you need many "corrections" Boater:

First of all Boater, WHO is the "more better lawyers" [sic!] on samui??..that I have "put down"? (also "more better" is not good enough and not why or, for that matter, what, I asked in the post in the first place...I wanted GOOD...good anywhere...not just the best of what is available).

Second, how, exactly have I "promote" [sic!] "a few less reptable [sic!] ones" and who is it that I am supposedly "promote"[sic!]?

Third, what does my correcting Mr. Spock's English, for clarity's sake, like his horrible legal "advise" to others that may HURT them but that he touts as genuine withOUT, in ANY way, being accountable for it when someone is stupid enough to follow it...which is why those giving legal advice in most countries should and must be verifiably licensed and be accountable for doing so and why, if you violate that, you go to jail for unauthorized practice of law, because of the fact that when hacks like Spock advise on law and people follow it, people lose their assets and/or worse, go to jail...what?...Boater...do you not get about that?...what, does you assertion, have to do with anything that I have said?

Fourth, no, I am not and have NEVER been, thank you, "a Samui lawyer."

Fifth, and what about you, Boater, what is your interest in Spock and why are you supporting someone who trying to be helpful (I do recognize that and god help him and bless him...at the same time) but he is reckless in doing so and may well be hurting others?...what makes YOU so sure Spock is reliable?...have you ever checked his facts?...since he won't support them ....even in this forum??? Think about it Boater...unless you have some other reason for supporting Spock?...maybe he has a local firm?...maybe you work there?...maybe?

  14. . Fray bought property in Laem Mai Kaen. The DSI found the property belonged to the Treasury Department. Fray divided the land into nine plots. Thais who conspired with him pretended to buy them. Fray sold the sections for 22 million baht each to Sabai Thani in order to allow foreigners to occupy the land and houses as juristic persons.

    -- Bangkok Post

How do you pretend to buy land?

Who paid 22 million for some land? Must be pretty amazing.

Am I a juristic person? Do I need to wear a tie to qualify?

ok so where is this guy?...i NEED a lawyer to deal with him...I hear Crawshaws are good solicitors, anyone know if they are good and trustworthy to hire sue this guy?

    .

Crashaws are very slow if you need anything done urgently

thanks boater...but don't care too much about time, or price, just quality..i hear too much about illegal property deals and deals that break the laws...particularly tax laws...

    Very sound advice.

    It looks like it indeed.

However, it seems that the person we seem to be talking about was released in March this year and that's why the topic, below, was closed:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Briton-Arres...00#entry1883600

So, before spending any money it would be wise (maybe) to collect some more information ?

    LaoPo

yes! THAT is what we are looking for!

  15. great...thanks Spock but this is not Star Trek, but I'll remember that when I am sitting in prison for following "the system" rather than the law.

anyone have a real answer to my question? I gather not, which is fine. I will go to BKK then to find some real solicitors. thanks all for the effort.

once again ... instead of debating or answering in a manor that will contribute to the discussion you choose personal insults and abusive dismissive rhetorics :o

I can only hope for your sake that you don't use this type of behavior in real life and attribute your false sense of superiority and patronizing attitude to your anonymity in the forum.

this type of attitude and abusive remarks while conducting any type of legal actions in Samui will get you in a much worse position then in jail.

i think it will be wise on your behalf to learn a little more about Thai culture and legal system before you take any actions.

here in Samui and in Thailand the legal system if you approve or not works somewhat different then the west and its good to know the "system" and how to work with it... and not just read law books. (as any good lawyer in any country knows)

but then again why should you take any advise... you know best don't you :D

At any case I wish you the best of luck in BKK and helping your friend

Thanks Spock...have no clue what your point is but, great logic. Anyway given your advice, its rampant inaccuracy with regard to law, espeically your failure to actually document and support your assertions about the law with citations, and your failure to ever correct your inacccuacies...oh,....sorry AND your past and now again current advice toa actually break the law...I think I will find someone to advise me who actually 1) knows the law and 2) does not advise breaking it.

BTW: its not your "advise"...its "advice"...so, ya, you are correct...why would I take it and I DO know better than you, for SURE :D

Thanks for your well wishes...but at the same time I hope Scotty beams you up before anyone actually listens to you.

  16. I have lived and worked in Thailand for close to 12 years. I am horrified to see all the negative and infantile repsonses to the postings on Thai Visa. Why can't respondents be more respectfiul and positive about the country/town where they choose to live. Everybody let's get a life and show more respect for this country

please define "respectful"...sometimes the most passionate form of devotion to and care for someone/something can, is defined by other as "disrespectful"...that btw is pretty much what you see going on with the Thais accussing each other and some getting arrested for "les majeste".

  17. In Samui most of the lawyers are like your local family doctor..they are good (some better then others) to handle standard cases on a daily basis but are not experts in all apsects of every field of the law.

those local lawyers that you seem to dismiss as "don't know the law" do "know" the system here... and are in some cases an advantage to the big wigs from BKK.

great...thanks Spock but this is not Star Trek, but I'll remember that when I am sitting in prison for following "the system" rather than the law.

anyone have a real answer to my question? I gather not, which is fine. I will go to BKK then to find some real solicitors. thanks all for the effort.

  18. My TOT internet at home went down sometime late Friday, early Saturday. It's Monday afternoon and it still isn't working. My neighbor and a friend down the street are having the same problem (I'm typing this from the food court at Big C - where wireless is free).

I called TOT Sunday morning and they said a tech would be out to check. Maybe they did, maybe they haven't yet. I just want to get an idea how big the problem is. Is it all over Samui or just in Bangrak where I live? Oh, and WHEN THE HECK ARE THEY GOING TO FIX IT??

just change to CAT...we did a few months ago...now never down and much faster.

  19. Burmese boat crew kill 4 Thais

    By Supapong Chaolan

Four Thai crew of a fishing boat were murdered and dumped into the sea by its 11 Burmese crew members in a robbery attempt at sea, marine police said yesterday.

Koh Samui marine police inspector Pol Lt-Col Jira Yafong said his unit received a call from the Sombat Paiboon fishing boat after two of the Burmese were plucked from the sea off Koh Samui.
