At least it's not teachers hitting students. I honestly don't see a problem with making students do fitness exercises as a punishment.

For me the biggest thing was finding a program that I liked. I kept on striking out with freelance teachers, and didn't enjoy going into tutor centers as it was a pain. Last year I found an online program with curriculum I liked and really good teachers. The rest is history. Now I can speak and read...can't really write as I have no need for that (voice to thai text works fine).

I would second Duke Language School. Great program and they will get you visa as well.

A great online solution would be www.englishgang.com/en. All native English speakers, accredited online program, etc.

Hope you have found someone already. There are great teachers/curriculum at www.zoethai.com if you're still looking to learn Thai online.

I switched to 90% online besides a couple of people in my moo baan that I taught at home (now online because of COVID).
I get 14-15 usd per hour, which is about 450 baht give or take. All the lessons are made, I just jump in and teach. Way easier.
They are hiring native speakers to teach Thais (www.EnglishGang.com/en). Send an email to support (at) englishgang.com with your CV. I get a cheeky referral bonus if you get accepted, so I’d appreciate a mention of referral number 4710 if you do apply!

I've been asked this a few times by my friends in Europe/USA, and it blows my mind every time. I consider Bangkok to be one of the safest large cities in which I've ever lived, as long as you carry around some common sense with you! I found a good article on BKK Families about this, and thought I'd share it: https://bkkfamilies.com/is-bangkok-safe-for-kids/
All in all, I don't think there is much to worry about outside of the normal parent worries. Schooling and education can be a pain for most if you're not rich, but there are many positives that do make up for that.

So my Thai wife has a 10 year tourist visa to the states. She is making the move back to the USA for the kids' education, and I will be following after in a few months.
She had a green card 7-8 years ago, but we cancelled it when we moved back here. I'm wondering if we should apply for her green card here or head back to the states on the tourist visa and then apply for the green card. Not sure how much COVID and the new administration has changed everything since the last time. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!
I have two kids, ages 10 and 7. It has been really hard trying to find the right school for them. My daughter needs extra support, and my budget doesn't fit with the top international schools in Bangkok. I've found that a lot of schools will offer financial aid or discounts if you do ask, but most of them go up to 30% tops. Berkeley offers 50% for western passports, but I guess that's why they are full in many grade levels.
I came across an awesome search function that looks at pricing and curriculum in their filters. For example if you're looking for an international school in Bangkok that is less than 400,000 per year and has British curriculum, you can input that and it gives you a good amount of options to choose from:
https://bkkfamilies.com/schools/
Likewise there is a lot of contact info there. So if you have questions about school details such as how much support they offer children with special needs, you can contact them and ask. Helped me a ton, hope it helps at least one other person out there!

I think for that I wrote a simple letter from myself saying that I need this, I have an alcohol problem, and want the meds (I'm not a doctor). I uploaded that in place of a doc's letter and it was fine. I don't think they actually care. You can probably upload your resume there and it would go through.

This might be a good time to ask the boss if you can work remotely now!
I know a lot of students are getting to studying online. I'm not into fear mongering, but this is one of those situations where going towards the safe side isn't a bad idea. You can teach English online at English Gang, work remotely, or even have kids study online. It's not going to replace everything, but it's not a bad idea for the time being.

Teaching online is an option. There are Chinese schools, Thai schools, South American schools, etc. that teach English online.
Not having a degree will slow you down, but it won't hold you back. No experience? Get creative with work you've done in the past. Possibly there is some overlap that the schools will accept. Good luck!

Happy new year all. No never had problems with alcohol, but LDN is supposed to do wonders for many people with other problems like my ex, so wanted to find a source so she could try it. I give up, not trusting customs after many bad experiences.
It's absolutely incredible. If I become a millionaire, I will definitely spread this around as much as I can. It saved my life and improved everyone's lives around me.

I applaud you if you've recovered from alcoholism, like me.
However, maybe you haven't recovered if you still drink. Was it a heavy NY?
Do you still get hangovers of taking Naltrexone? I never when I took it 25 years ago, but I never got hangovers.
My apologies for misunderstanding then.
At the time of that post, I didn't drink for 20+ months (and didn't drink on NY's either).
I did decide/plan to medicate again on Christmas as the little demon was still ringing in my ear here and there. I'll copy and paste what I wrote on a naltrexone forum below:
So on Christmas, 22 months since not having a drink, I decided to have a drink. 2.5 cans and a glass of bubbly to be precise (with a Nodict appetizer 90 minutes before).
Rewinding a bit, I've been wondering when this day would come. I don't remember exactly when I knew I was done with alcohol, but I've had it in my mind that one day I would come back to try it again. I've had a lot of stress over the past few months, and that little bug in my head was still there wanting to go back to that dopamine rush of chugging a beer. It was never a strong bug, and it was usually squashed because I didn't want to go back to my drinking days (daze).
I figured another day of medication would help, and boy did it help. I really didn't enjoy it that much while drinking. It was ok, but the best part was the flavor of this Japanese apricot beverage in a can. It was delicious with just 3% alcohol. I had two of those, half of a beer, and really didn't like the feeling. The bubbly was something I brought for the party, and was dragged into having a glass before I left.
The next day I woke up feeling a bit sad...alcohol is a depressant after all. I was in a cloud for half the day, which helps me further know that I don't want to go back to drinking. There is nothing there for me at all, and there are so many better things to be doing with my life. All went to plan, and this dinosaur is still extinct.
Happy New Year to all. Wishing everyone the best with an improved life.My full thread is here: http://optionssavelives.freeforums.net/thread/1911/dad

It's great to see someone who says they are not alcoholic stop drinking with the use of online drugs, by self prescribing.
Where did I say that I wasn't an alcoholic?
Regarding the self prescribing, there really isn't another option here. Why not applaud someone who has turned their life around by taking action rather than attempt to joke about a serious issue.
If I'm reading your post correctly, you are a sad individual.

About 3 years ago I tried contacting a bunch of hospitals, but no luck. I'm sure there are rehab places that carry it, but the cost is always a concern at those places.
I ended up getting them online from India. Probably the best decision of my life.

Very reliable from my experience. One shipment didn't come though. But after one month the pharmacy understood it got lost somehow during transit and they sent the same order again for free.
Two weeks later BOTH packages arrived. I paid them for both, but they didn't charge me for shipping on the second order (I could have easily kept quiet and not paid). I highly trust that pharmacy.

I wrote to reliablerx, the place that I trust. They don't have many payment options:

That's great information. Thanks Skytrain. I guess the only question is, where to order it online from, since the earlier links don't seem to work anymore? Thanks and well done!
That sucks. I'm sure there are other reliable suppliers.
I found the one that I posted here before on this forum: http://optionssavelives.freeforums.net/board/16/find-physician
Could try again there?

There are ways out. I know it seems really difficult, but I somehow climbed out of it even though I found myself comfortable with drinking myself to death.
This video is what got me started on Naltrexone. Saved my life and I have no doubt about that. PM me if you have any questions. I can’t advise you on where to get the meds as it’s been years since my last order, but where there’s a will there’s a way.
