  1. Errrm that white cable is a normal Cat5/6 LAN cable, if you have fibre optic this cable should connect to a separate fibre optic box next to your router and not disappear down a vertical shaft. Depending on the length of this cable and how it was installed there could be variable issues between your router and the fibre optic box.

As suggested before the fibre optic could be reaching your condo building but the last " leg " would be the run from the fibre optic box to your room via this white cable, until you physically see the white cable plugged into a fibre optic box, it would be difficult to say whether you have fibre optic or not.

Ideally the fibre cable should run to your room and the fibre box sit next to your router with only a short length of cable to the router.

  2. Was there last week to get a Non-B multi visa. The opening times for applications are 9-30 - 11-30 am, I got there shortly before 9-00 already there were 10 -15 people there, once the gates are opened the security guard will write the details down of your passport, you proceed into the compound and wait 10 mins for the doors to open to the main building, when they do there will be a mad rush to go in and get a queue ticket. Wait for your number, once called go to the desk and hand over your paper work with 550 MYR ( Multi ) 220 MYR( Single ), the girl behind the counter will give you a receipt and any paperwork she doesn't require.

Collection of visa next day between 14-30 and 16-30, again lots of people waiting outside before 14-30, once in go to the main building where they will open the doors, do not bother with a queue ticket just go straight to counter 4 and hand over your receipt from the day before and they will hand you back your passport with ( hopefully ) the visa you requested.

    Hope that helps

  3. Well I have been here ( Galae Thong ) for the past year, I agree that in the early stages there was a lot of noise, now the renovations are slowing down due to the fact that all units have been sold, talking to the manager today the falang / Thai ratio is now 46% / 54% so getting near to the 49% falang ownership threshold.

Car parking - the committee has sourced the land oposite the building, which will alleviate the car parking problems in the future, just down the soi there is a restuarant being built which will also have a swimming pool, which to the best of my knowledge and also speaking to the owner he will allow residents of Galae Thong to use this facility.

7 years to complete renovations !!??! is that dog years ? maybe 1 year tops as 90% of condo's have been or in the proces of being renovated.

Yes I have a vested interest here, as I said before there are plenty of choices of condos around Chiang Mai to suit anyones individual requirements I however am happy here, its one of the more friendliest condominium buildings staff and residents alike that I have been in.

  4. Well for 5,000 a month Galae Tower you wouldn't get a room, so you are ok there !!

Try Hauy Kaew Residence probably more in your price range, although on this forum I have seen comments that it's noisy at night being so close to Hauy Kaew Rd... internet 300 Baht per month and rooms, to the best of my knowledge 4,000 - 5,000 baht

    Hope this helps

  5. Hi StevieH,

I have used Dr Kriengsak Wattanasirakul M.D on a couple of occaisions, English is excellent, he is open from 8am - 8pm Mon - Sat.

His practise is on Changklan Rd, just up from the Ratillana Hotel ( on the opposite side of the road going towards town approx 50 metres from the hotel entrance )

Both times I went there the cost was around 600 - 800 Baht including medication and his fee's. Recommend him.

  6. To the best of my knowledge the inside of the building is due to be given a makeover, lick of paint etc. Recently the Galae Thong Bistro (Cafe) has opened giving a good selection of Thai and western food.

The work that is going on at the moment, yes, sometimes can be a bit noisy, however this is kept to a minimum by only permitting work between 10am and 4pm and no work at the weekends.

As stated before there are few condo's left for sale and rent, depends on your budget of course and what furnishings etc you would like, some condo's lack air-conditioning, furnishings but that is reflected in the price, you can pick up a neat and tidy 40sqm for 7,000 - 9,000, and to buy I have seen a 2 roomed condo for sale at 1.6 million ( no air con + basic funiture ) to another with all the works for 3 million, there are a sucession of people interested here now as there is a good falang population and is a friendly place to be. IMHO.

All in all its different horses for different courses, I would never shout " beware do not buy/ rent " for the simple fact that my tastes may differ from the next, as they say here "its up to you ", go have a look make your own mind up, at the end of the day there are a plethora of condos to suit everyone here in CM.

    Good luck :-)

  7. Well the noise seems to be the norm in Chiang Mai at the moment, where I am we had drilling 9:00 am this morning, I know Galare Thong and coincidently I was there today, I admit to hearing some building work but to the best of my knowledge work at the building only occurs between the hours of 10:00 - 16:00 to tru and cut down on noise and inconvienience's

Today I had no problems accessing the lifts maybe the most I waited was 2 - 3 minutes, which I would expect from any 15 storey building.

But as the previous poster said, good for you "vote with your feet" if you're not happy, maybe there is a condo out there that suits your needs.

    Best of luck

  8. Thank you MookyG because I have the same idea.

I love Perth but have not been there for 7 years and never applied for a Thai visa there.

I have just obtained an Australian visa using the internet and my credit card.

    I have a UK passport.

I know the area well or used to.

Please could you say more about this letter of guarantee.

    Guarantee of or for what?

Why did you need a copy of your girlfriend's id card?

I have the idea to apply for a one year non 0 multiple entry. I am over 50.

    Hi Jobsworth,

I too applied for the e-visa from the internet all pretty simple process ... The letter of guarantee in the "true" sense is someone who would provide financial assistance in the event you having no money or cannot support yourself in the future, in my case my letter just stated that the guarantor had known me for 8 months, seen my financial status and could see no reason why a years visa should not be issued. The consulate didn't look at any bank books etc that I had with me, so I guess anyone could write the letter of guarentee.

The copy of my girlfriends ID was asked for as I was applying to visit family and friends..... I have attached the guildlines I was sent by the consulate in Perth. You will see that these items are asked for.

Having been in Thailand a year now I always think the more documents you can provide the greater the chance of you getting what you want !!

  9. Just a short note re a visa run to Perth, Australia. I hold a British passport, rather than go to the UK ( Hull )to get a new one year Non O visa I decided to fly to Perth on Sun 7th Sept, I stayed in a resonable hotel on Hay Street, ( Criterion Hotel $95 Aus) 5 mins walk from the Thai consulate.

Consulate only open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.00am - 12 Noon. I went to the consulate on Tuesday morning ( 9.00am ) with a signed copy of my girlfriends ID card and a letter of guarentee ( mine was from a Police Colonel, but even a letter from your neighbour, girlfriend, to the best of my knowledge would do ) + the filled out forms for the visa you can get these and pre fill them out from by e-mail [email protected]

The cost of the visa was $225 AUS and it was ready by 1.00pm the same day, without any issues. The staff at the consulate polite and easy to deal with.

Returned on the 14th Sept ready to stay another year in LOS !
