  1. the very ( sad) fact that there happens to be one subject, .... Hence we cannot make jokes about this subject ....

I am not sure what subject you mean. unless in thailand it begins with a 'k'.

In America, one must be careful joking about patriotism, but you can call the president any manner of foul names.

  2. Maybe they know this is a load of propaganda designed to make you use more soap.. started by soap companies in the late 1900's .

    1) Urine is sterile,

    2) Besides, I do not put my fingers in urine, do you?

    3) Same goes for defecating. When I wipe I use tissue, lots of it-not my hands, don't you?

    4) The minute after you spend 2 minutes scrubbing your own hands, and you touch the door going out, don't you think your hands are contaminated with whatever was deposited by whomever went before you?

A far more sensible better habit to get into is DON'T TOUCH YOUR EYES, NOSE or MOUTH. This stops virus from getting in your eyes , nose or moth which are nice warm, moist petri dishes. Ears too, but it's harder to deposit germs within.

Doctors say the one best way to stop infection is to wash your hands. Then even if you do touch your eyes, etc. you are more protected. Let's not just blame everything on those mean old corporates.

  3. Does anyone have any thoughts about making jokes to thai's about certain subjects?

Can you joke about money with Thai's? And in what circumstances?

I noticed once that a thai cashier did not react well to a small joke I made about money when I was paying for some items.

But in other cases, there has been no problem.

In certain cultures, one never jokes about a person being fat, but in other cultures it may be ok.

  4. Thai single woman with foreigner get along.. to go for meals, shopping, talking ..anything as a good companion does.. Can it be?

    ...

My experience, I have some foreign friends.. some are gud but some..... so, disappeared.

    ....

I am sick of this..usually enjoy having new friends in every day but this make me.... nearly give up to have foreign friends....

Or am I just too conservative :( ? Do you have friends in opp. gender? What do you do with them?

Maybe you are sick of Western men.

Then you have to ask yourself, why you want a Western male friend anyway.

Western men find shopping with women very boring.

If you don't have a real reason to be with a man, then just wanting to "be friends" is a waste of time.

Perhaps you should say what you are really looking for: someone only to talk to? You can do this with a thai man or a woman just as well.

What are you really searching for?

  5. Is there a way to get from khao san road to the nearest BTS by bus? It seems a little hard to travel to town area.

another choice is to walk from khao san rd to pra sumen and chakapongse roads.

on the former is a bus stop where you can catch the 53 bus.

it goes to hualamphong train station.

underneath the train station is an entrance to the metro.

    you can make connections there.

  6. In your opinion:

Do farangs shower less often that Thais and other Asians?

Or is that just a "racist" Thai/Asian belief about farangs?

    Fact or fallacy? :D

And... does it matter at all? :o

from the scientific point of view people in warmer climates should sweat more than people from cooler climates.

So people from thailand should sweat more, theoretically.

sweating is the human body's main way to cool itself down and reduce heat stress. The sweat forms on the surface of the skin, then the energy used to evaporate it draws heat out of the body.

it may be that newcomers from the West in LOS will sweat more as a temporary acclimatory adjustment then get over this.

Sweat deposits salt on the surface of the skin, and getting this off is one of the main reasons to shower. The difference in odor may relate to the apocrine glands. If caucasians are seen as more odiferous, it may be because in their evolutionary history in europe, individuals with stronger smell tended to survive and reproduce at a greater rate than those without it. This may be because these glands also function as scent glands.

  7. Taxis in Bkk seem to be grouped by color.

Candy-apple pink taxis are predominant around khao san road.

But tourists are advised not to take the taxis around Khao San road, rather to use those along surrounding streets. Does this mean: "if you take the pink, your ride will stink"?

I noticed an all blue taxi with numbers and markings all over, one of which said "intelligent taxi."

Does anyone know if the colors represent different companies

if so which companies are the best to ride?

  8. I do not know which forum this post belongs in.

I am a white male falang interested in an older thai woman, from a property-owning family.

she would be called respectable in contrast to a bar girl, although a bar girl would deserve as much respect in my opinion.

she is unmarried and works at the family guest house.

I am wondering how one proceeds with a relationship.

Should I only visit her at her guest house, or should I ask her if she wants to go to another location, like a cafe? I am worried a middle class thai woman will not want to be seen in public with a foreigner who has no connections in the city.

When if ever would it be appropriate to invite her to my room?

    I would appreciate any tips.
