  1. It will never change, Bike are the worst >  no rear lights, no lights at all, turning right at junction and going against the traffic, coming out of a junction without stopping, going across red lights, turning right by crossing the road 200mt before the turning.
I was in an "accident" 4 years I turned right into my drive off the main road I was completely off the road back of my car was 2 mt from the road  ( dead straight road 2 lanes with 30mt wide )  it was 3pm . I was just about get out the door to unlock my gate, and two motorbikes hit my right side door at about 100Kph they knocked my car 2.5 tonne 2.5mt of my drive, both died they were 17 and 18.
    1: they were racing
    2: no licence
    3: no helmet
    4: No tax
5: Wrong side of the road Going against the traffic.
Why they came off the road and hit my car the car behind me said there were laying on the bikes laughing at each other when they passed him and seemed to veer of the road.  My Lawyer said i need to pay the families 300,000 or go to jail for 5 years. I had to stand in the court room and hand over the cash. After the the judge sentenced me to 1 years probation and 5000 baht fine. It was explained to me that they ( the boys ) can't be blamed because they were dead. So it was my fault 50%, the Lawyer say if I didn't pay it would have been my fault 100%.
until they take the immunity away from motorbikes and the stupid law it's always the bigger vehicle that's at fault.
It's too far gone to put it all right, in the UK it's not your right to drive on the road here in Thailand the attitude it's my right to do what I want. It's freedom go too far.  But most of us farang are here because of this "freedom" .
I know there are going keyboard Lawyers on here saying You should of! you done it all wrong!

  2. This first thing I would like to know, who was his Lawyer for future reference.
This is not that unusual I know of 2 case with the last couple of years where two farang ( both English ) who have "won" cases.
1: He used his money to buy and build property about £1.4 mil he came to Thailand with he bought and built 6 buildings and 3 plots of land with his Wife had kids, she got a new man.  At court she was awarded 9 mil baht or choice of 4 properties in agreement with him. Him not being sound mind choose all the wrong ones unfinished projects and 2 plots of 1 and 4 rai, She got the nice places, To date 1 house and one plot has sold in Total 3.2mil, he's left with all the rubbish  EG: A unfinished 27 bed Hotel in Nong Hong "he" said cost 32mil to build. Up for sale at 11mil highest bid 3.2 in total with a lot of luck he will get another 4mil back. Conclusion  he was deported because he could afford his visa.
2: No married house on 1.6 rai the court ordered the house to be sold. He the farang was awarded 60% of the sale price. That was 4 years ago, the house is falling into disrepair Cost him in-total about 4.5mil now for sale at 2.25
Yes the court can order the split, but actually Farang will always lose money, but not such a big loss if you don't fight for it.

  3. You cannot Transfer out of Thailand with Transferwise, or any other account as far as I know, you generally have to go through a rigmarole before you can.  I use Transferwise upto £1000 after that my bank is cheaper.
But to pay bills from Thailand is easy, I have A Kasikorn Account and use K web Shopping card ( it's a virtual )  credit card.  You don't have a card but just an account number with the 3 figures on that would be on the back of a credit a card. Nobody can draw off the card without your permission. So it a very secure way of paying.
    It works everywhere.
Example: 2011 while in Ohio USA i wanted to hire a car, I gave them my UK debit card and they said don't that debit cards. They had a computer in the office which I used to book the car with my K Web card. so all was ok until I got to JFK airport. They asked for my payment, they said no to my UK halifax card and need the card I booked with, I tried to explain but they insisted I pay with the credit card I booked with, if not they would draw the money from it, which I knew they could not. So they took payment from my Debit Card after they tried to draw from the Web Card, they were very confused how all this work. ????????????

  4. I always wonder how many "farang" have had a motorcycle licence in their own countries, very few I believe.
I see farang ride the same way Thai's ride very badly don't take notice of the rules same as the Thai's.
I have lived here 15 years driving 450,000 miles in one car. Had one accident whilst stationary on my drive 1 mt off the main straight Rd. Two motorbike with 3 riders hit my car in the side killed two of them and the other a broken leg. They were on the wrong side of the road racing towards the traffic 18 years old, no licence no "tax" no helmets, Police said it was obviously it was my fault.

My son ( 52 )came here no UK licence at all, was a teacher 8 years had 7 accidents 3 bad ones and the last one drove out in front of a car killed the passenger lost his left leg, nothing happened with the police, he's now claiming benefits in England along with all the others who don't deserve it.
The system will never change here most farangs who ride motorbike never ridden one in there life until come here consequently there drive like the Thai's.
Yes I have both car and bike licences in UK and Thailand.

  5. There have been sharks around Hua Hin for years. There was a photo of one on the Jetty in about 2007, it was a Mako shark about 7 / 8  foot long which would put it in 2 to 300lbs area. The local gentry tried to cover it up and say that there are no sharks in the Andaman sea.  But Canadian Jim had the photo and showed it to us.  There are sharks everywhere and all sea's but attacks are rare.  Happy swimming ;-)

  6. On 2/20/2017 at 1:02 PM, johng said:

err do you mean  while you where driving the car  ?  or  while the car was sat still in your drive ?

The road is very straight and wide, the entrance to my house is hard to see so when my son's friend a farang and his Thai G/F were following me, he never been to my house before.  I’m going very slow and turn on my right indicator to show him that I will turn about 100mt before the entrance to my house. I looked in mirrors  to see him indicate so to follow me he was about 10mt behind I did not see any motorcycle maybe because they were behind him they should not have gone past him he had indicator on same as me, I think they were racing and not looking where they are going.   Also the entrance is about 20cm step down because they built new road up, so I have to go slow.

If they did the right thing and drive on the left hand side of the road and then go to the left of a car turning right all would have been ok.

He said he saw them come past him looking at each other and laughing and at high speed, maybe 100 kilos+ I was on my drive. I never saw them at all I was nearly fully on my drive, I just felt a big bang when they hit my car and knock the car sideways about 2mt my car is 2,500kilo so must have been going very fast.

They must have been behind the other car 10mt behind me and went past him in error and not see me as no skid marks on the road.

If going 100kilo they will cover 100mt in 3.6 seconds so if see me from 27mt they only have 1 second to react, I think no chance to do anything they were not concentrating on the road only who could win the race.  I could have done nothing to prevent this tragic accident.

I feel sorry that they died and the image of them on the ground will always be with me, I did help them and stopped other people trying to pick them off the floor until ambulances come.

Me and the driver behind are not 100% sure where they come from he never saw them until they went passed him, and I never saw them at all. They could have just come along the wrong side of the road at high speed.  But the general opinion is they overtook a car that was indicating to turn right and hit me in the side all 4 of my wheels were in the drive they hit me square on.
The police have charged me with causing death by careless driving. At the latest court hearing they seemed to have reduced the charge to shared responsibility.  But we will see what happens , but my Lawyer says whatever I'll end up paying money guilty or innocent.

  7. The first thing to do is make the motor bikers responsible for they accidents ( Take away their immunity ) Second thing, confiscate bike or cars driving without lights at night, only give them it back to them when it's fix ,that includes Police cars and bikes! That will reduce the deaths by about 20%. Then slowly make sure the all become road worthy of the next 10 years. But it's not the vehicles but it's start, then try and train riders and drivers. Hold on now this is getting stupid, how the hell could you train them when there's nobody who can drive anyway!

  8. Most Brit's driving motorbikes in Thailand have never ridden one before. Same goes for most tourist. Check see if they have a FULL motorbike licence if not don't let hire. If the police stop them tell to get off and walk and take their licence away. I driven in Thailand 7 years without incident, I have a full UK bike and Car licence for over 50 years. But only ridden a bike once the was enough for me. Last time driving in Pattaya the expats drive like the Thai's, shortest route not round a bend across it, wrong against the traffic. I get so pis**d off with idiotic expats and tourist riding bikes.

OH ! Just woke up don't let them rent a bike!!!! my god no money, Take their licence, no tea money!!!!!

  9. laws need revision, especially against low temperature burning of plastics. see here:

What is the harm in burning waste?

Practically all uncontrolled burning of waste releases toxic pollutants directly into the air without treatment or filtering of any sort. This is now one of the major sources of some pollutants impacting on air quality in Ireland.

The main problem with any form of 'do it yourself' incineration or backyard burning is that it is rarely carried out at temperatures high enough to destroy toxic substances. They receive very little oxygen and produce a lot of smoke. Under these conditions a great many toxic substances are produced. Virtually all of the pollutants are released into the air close to ground level where they are easily inhaled. Under calm weather conditions toxins released from this type of burning can remain at dangerous levels near the ground for a long time, causing high amounts of contamination near the source.

Why is this different from burning waste in large scale licensed incinerators?

There is no comparison between uncontrolled, low temperature burning of waste and the controlled and regulated high temperature conditions under which licensed incinerators operate. The dioxins released from the uncontrolled burning of one tonne of household waste (the average level of annual waste per household in Ireland) are 55 times greater than the dioxins emitted if the same tonne of waste was treated in a modern municipal incinerator.

Uncontrolled low temperature burning of waste occurs at about 200 - 400oc, the temperature range that dioxins are formed! All pollutants are then released directly into the atmosphere with no treatment or filtering. 73% of dioxins released into the Irish atmosphere at present are as a result of uncontrolled low temperature burning, with a further 11% from accidental building fires. This makes backyard burning the single biggest source of dioxins (many of which cause cancer) released into the Irish environment.

There is no type of waste that is safe to burn at low temperatures, including paper, wood and garden waste. The real solution is to manage our waste by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.

Some of the pollutants that can be generated by low temperature uncontrolled burning are:

Dioxins and Furans—Dioxins become a persistent pollutant in the environment for many years - they enter the environment or the body and persist because of their chemical stability and may accumulate in fat tissue in animals and humans. Some dioxins are known to cause cancer and a variety of illnesses including skin lesions and birth defects.

Carbon monoxide - small amounts may cause headaches and nausea

Styrene -The burning of polystyrene - such as foam cups, meat trays, egg containers, yogurt and deli containers - releases styrene. Styrene gas can readily be absorbed through the skin and lungs. At high levels styrene vapour can damage the eyes and mucous membranes. Long term exposure to styrene can affect the central nervous system, causing headaches, fatigue, weakness, and depression.

Microscopic particles that can get deep into the lungs leading to asthma, bronchitis and heart problems. These are particularly dangerous to people who already have respiratory or cardiac disease.

Ash from burning may contain mercury, lead, arsenic and other heavy metals, which are toxic to animals and humans, causing heart, kidney and brain damage. They may also accumulate in vegetables grown in soil where the ash has fallen and they can then be passed onto humans when eaten.

What are the special regulations for Farm Waste?

Under the new regulations farmers are required to follow a specified waste hierarchy only permitting the burning of uncontaminated wood, trees, tree trimmings, leaves, brush or other similar wastes generated by agricultural practices as a last resort.

The agricultural exemption applies until 1st January 2014. Farmers who feel that they have no alternative to burning waste must notify the local authority in advance of their intention to carry out the disposal & provide information under the regulations. (Forms are available from Wicklow County Council or from this website by clicking the link below.) After 2014 farmers will have to apply for a Certificate of Registration under the Facility Permit Regulations.

pdfdoc.gifSchedule Application for Burning Agricultural Waste - 23kb

The following steps should first be taken to manage agricultural wastes:
    • waste arisings should be reduced in accordance with best agricultural practice
    • waste should be reused where possible
    • waste should be recycled through shredding and used as compost or wood chippings
    • wastes should be salvaged for use a fuel where practicable

The purpose of these new regulations is to abolish the practice of burning waste. It will be illegal to burn waste under the Waste Management Acts 1996 - 2008 and the Air Pollution Act 1987. An exemption has been made for farmers only as a last resort to burn wastes generated by agricultural practices. The Environmental Protection Agency has highlighted in recent years the necessity to combat this persistent and dangerous practice.

    Manage your waste properly

Reduce: Avoid disposable items. Buy products in bulk or economy size instead of individually wrapped. Buy durable, repairable goods that can be recharged, reused or refilled.

Reuse: Donate unwanted clothing, furniture, toys to friends, relatives and charities. Mend or repair rather than throw away.

Recycle: Make sure you recycle and buy only containers you know are recyclable.

Compost: Contact Wicklow County Council about buying a home composter to recycle your garden waste as well as certain types of kitchen waste.

Wicklow County Council has five recycling centres. You can dramatically reduce the volume of your waste that needs disposal by using a facility like these. Contact us for a list of permitted collectors before you give anybody your residual waste for disposal.

So you read and copy a lot, get real and put finger to keyboard.

  10. The biggest problem with these vans and almost all "public transport" in Thailand there are no "Passenger Service Vehicle" rules, no safety inspections, no PSV licence test and no morality from the fleet owners. ( rich Thai's ) . The main rule is to get to the destination and back as many times a day as they can. To earn as much money for the owner and themselves as possible without regard for human life, because there be more humans tomorrow, as you can see at Victory Monument every 10 mins. My first and last ride was from there to Hua Hin never again for me. If they wanted to warn passengers and slow down these drivers put posters up at the Minibus stations depicting scenes like that photo.

But this is Thailand they would probably take photo's of the photo to show there friends. RIP, Poor people feel very sorry for the kids and families left.

  11. Last Night I drove into Lamplaimat from my house, got to the cross rd Lights and the lights said stop " red " straight on and right and go "green" straight on and right at the same time. This is on the major rd from Buriram to Korat. I sat there for a min with bike flying pass me and slowly turned right. What the flipping hell happened after i got through i don't know.

  12. Wow....guess blood is thicker than water.... " No worries bro, we will just dump the body and everything will be fine..."

Note to self: Do NOT drink with Thai men.

Note to self: Do not drink with wife's 'Thai brother'.

(also do not live with/near him or employ him)

100% right get yourself at lease 50k between you and the family, and don't have too many parties, 1 of my friends died by wifes hand and another ended up broke. They both broke that 50k rule.
  13. When i first came to Thai I wonder why all these girls sell their selves. Talking with a few one of which was reasonably intelligent. She was about 25 at this time and told me at 13 her mother and father put up for “sale” to the highest bidder. A powerful man in the her village of Hua Hin paid the highest price. She said she stayed a while then he told her to go back home he didn’t want her anymore. She told me this is still in practice all over Thailand so I dug deeper. The real start of the “Bar Girls” was French man “farang “ came to fight and want RR, so it was an extension of Thai culture of getting a gift for the girls .Which has been going on since before anyone can remember.

Just like 1000's of mums in Issan do now.wai2.gif Not like the farang world when every girl who gets married in white is a virgin.smile.png Culture takes many twists and turns.
