  1. Hi Scubba,

I have put my Ninja 250 on the train, to numerous destinations within Thailand. You should have (0) issues.

FYI : Bring your own tie downs.

    jap.gif

Good suggestion about the ties downs. Perhaps a cover also.

I need to find some good quality tie downs though I have not seen any locally. Any ideas where to start looking ?

  2. Scuba.. he's just pulling ya chain.. happens a fair bit here... but the info is still good.

And a right fair job he did of it too. Jeez .. that sure irked me and mad at myself for letting it.

I do appreciate the info and it will serve me well.

    Cheers all,

    Scubadude

  3. I could never understand why so called motorcyclist want to ship there bikes there ? KK to CM is a wonderful ride throught the National Park. I do it monthly. A nice days ride

Well Jeffrey , as you have misjudged me a "so called" cyclist, I must enlighten you that family always comes first. As stated in my original post, this is a family holiday, that just may work out for me to enjoy a little riding as well. Please reflect on your judgement of others motivations a bit before casting undeserving stones.

Not that I really feel a need to justify myself to a strange® but I will anyway .....I have been riding motorcycles since I was 10 years old. (52 now) ---- Over a million miles on two wheels in my life. 35 countries toured on two wheels, a stack of Ironbutts (if you know what that is), along with a few years superbike racing on top of it. Find another person to vent on as you have barked up the wrong tree this time and pissed me off. If this is indicative of your little forum then it's the last time I look at it. GT has been much more intereting.

  4. All bad solutions. Here is the best one. I live in Phit'lok. Pay my bus fare and gas and I'll ride it up for you! Then, I'll ride it back. Not a joke, by the way. When are we going?

Nice try TongueTied ! ! ! I think the quick depreciation on my brand new bike by someone other than me would not justify it :) Also the fact that I prefer to break it in myself :)

Seriously though, I am thinkng of riding it back via Non Khai .. I think it's the 211 road along the Mekong ? More research needed but I hear good reports of that run.

  5. Its been well documented that bigger bikes can go by train.

Plain as day English and Thai that 125cc limit on the train website. Perhaps a special shipping needs to be done over 125cc instead of riding in cargo car. .. Good to hear it has been done before. I will send the wife to confirm at the train station.

    Thanks for the feedbacl

  6. Traveling with the family to CM for holiday and want my Big Bike, not so big actually (CBR 250), to ride a few days while we are there.

Thought about taking the train but their website says limit of 125cc for motorcycles.

Does anyone know any other options for my bike to roundtrip from KK to CM ? Other than the obvious of course :)

Perhaps someone out there has done something similar before ?

All advise is welcome and appreciated.

  7. Thaksin will be granted amnesty. Thaksin will return to Thailand. Thaksin will be arrested by the Army. The country will go into chaos. The Army will take over..... you heard it hear.

Your prognostication skills need a little work, if you think that Thaksin will ever return with the remote possibility of an arrest.

Main point is : The Army rules the roost in this country. Thaksin may indeed return thinking he is safe but neither he nor any political party will ever be out of the scope of the military's desire. What the military wants...they get. Slightest hint of a problem and they will take over if it meets their agenda. It has been this way for a long long time here.

  8. One can only welcome an EC-member saying, that "international observers would be granted access to monitor the balloting", this is definitely a step in the right direction. B)

I agree, but if you've ever spent much time in a Thai village you'll know that the illegalities happen weeks, if not months before the actual election. I doubt if any observers would be present to see it and if they were, if they had no knowledge of Thai language or culture, they wouldn't even know what they were looking at.

Yes, payments have already been make with promises of cooperation by the voters. And believe this, everyone knows how you voted. There is no secrets at the ballot box.

I am amazed at the number of people that seem to know what goes on in every village across the country and seem to think it is exactly the same in every on of them.

The generality of it is this, and it is indeed a generalization : People accept the gift then go and vote however they da** well please without any repercussions.

You pro Dems are reacting to the popularity polls with your endless "it's not fair" campaign.

Thaksin will be granted amnesty. Thaksin will return to Thailand. Thaksin will be arrested by the Army. The country will go into chaos. The Army will take over..... you heard it hear.

  9. Kentucky State University???

    Hicksville, USA.

If language is a problem, though, how come George Dubya Bush got into Yale. Daddy was as corrupt as any other politician, but super rich. And so, although Dubya has little knowledge of the English Language (or indeed of anything), he got into Yale and was voted in (twice, well, at least the second time) by the American sheeple.

Any time you want to snigger at Thai politics, just recall that Dubya was the most powerful politician on earth. Or maybe you should recall the likes of Sarkozy in France or Bliar in UK (followed by the equally appalling Brown).

Still, with all Thaksin's wealth, she should have been able to find a university a bit more up the evolutionary scale than Kentucky State.

    But very educ-able.

Did I once see her on Thailovelinks?

So you have spent some time in the capital city of Kentucky ? Is that what qualifies your "hicksville" comment or is it more likely your lack of knowledge and an attempt to step up your own upbringing by bashing another geographical area of the world.

Hicksville is way way out of line for the bluegrass country where the equine industry flourishes in opulant splendor.

  10. Kentucky State University is NOT the University of Kentucky.

Kentucky State is for black people only.

How did she get in ? And why did she go there? It is a terrible school.

Any thoughts on Eastern Kentucky University please?

Good uni ... EKU is about 20 minutes from UK and many people take classes at both then transfer credits to whichever they want to finish at.

  11. It is predominantly black not exclusively black, and all schools have places for foreign students.

I'm wondering why she chose such a university to attend. Is she attracted to black guys? I wonder what she got up to in her spare time there.

The black aspect is irrelevant. Based on the standing of the school, it obviously means her qualifications for admission to a more elite school didn't exist. In the US, there are traditionally black colleges that indeed quite excellent, such as Emory and Howard.

I think that you mean Emory & Henry

Emory is NOT a traditionally black college ... no where near it as it is quite an elite "predominantly caucasian" private university specializing in medicine and law. Howard is a traditionally black uni for sure.,, never heard of Henry....

  12. An excellent idea ... IF...

    1. 2 years is spent planning the implementation

    2. A substantial set of curriculum materials is developed, acquired

    3. Student management software is acquired

    4. Sufficient WiFi nodes are in place

    5. A sub net of the web is enabled with additional pages being added by individual teachers

    6. Tablets are just todays CHALK ... and if used intelligently can cut school budgets and deliver better education by having fewer face to face hours with teachers who may not be so effective anyway.

A local village school (90 pupils) has a teacher pupil atio of 1:10 .... and that does not include administrators. Even has a specialist computer teacher. Those resources far exceed Australian standards. Singapore is an excellent example of what can be done - IF ... Thai implementation is effective it matters little if there is a kickback here or there - the potential educational gains are enormous.

I speak from considerable experience wherein I disavowed popular policies and used computers to DELIVER education not simply EDUCATE ABOUT COMPUTERS.

Although I doubt the motives of the politicians I disapprove of slamming every initiative simply because of some insignificant potential negative .... yes game playing can be time wasting - but the right games can deliver development of thought processes and copious content efficiently.

The prime consideration should always be outcomes which stem from delineating content and processes. Keep an open mind people.

Pretty good synopsis. I would add that the IT overhead, that some IT wannabes on this sight suggest as impossible, is not so bad at all. Robust "childproof" laptops are available from Dell right now and a tablet is easily forseeable. Games can be locked out very easily . I envision a internet connection that would direct all the tablets through an administrated "portal" allowing access to only what is administrated.... e-books, streamed lectures, and even to the point of assignemnts and courses. Has anyone on here taken an University level online elearning course using Banner or a simlar delivery method ?? Perfect example of what can be done with the tablet proposed...... This is a very good idea and could forseeably take learning outcomes in thailand to an international level if Change Management can be properly implemented. Great Idea and unlimited potential ! ! ! !

  13. Old tactics used by Taksin to try to buy the vote of Thailand's disenfranchised. What good will tablets do for the students? They are computers and students will use them for games.

The computer and the internet are very good learning tools. Games can be locked out. Why so negative about this very good idea. At the very least the students will know how to turn on a computer and navigate a bit which is better than many adults I know.

  14. I have all of the DVDs and the schedules etc.

The tough equipment to find is a pull-up bar think everything else is stuff you can find in Bangkok - some dumbbells and a yoga mat is all you really need.

The lack of a pull up bar killed me from doing it though and my doors in the house have no frame to hang a bar from so I gave up on it.

Really great program though but if your serious about committing to you make sure you can sort out the pull up bar first.

Send me a PM if your interested in the DVDs.

I have since sourced the DVD's through the P90X website however have not ordered for the same reason you mention. I have no door frames in my home either. The only other solution would be to fabricate something for outdoors ( too hot ) or indoors (still thinking about how ) ..... If I come up with a solution then will pass it on. Thanks for the feedback

  15. Don't even equate the Thai/US Amnity Treaty with Obama. That treaty was established five years after he was born so connecting him with it is bull. If the Thais was oratory, yes, let him come. Substance, forget it.

Yes, I am an American who is watching my country go to hell in a hand basket due to him and his Chicago type politics. The only thing he will bring is a bunch of planes and synchophants costing millions for the US taxpayer. He could care less for this part of the world other than maybe China. Possibly Indonesia due to his childhood.

By the way, the definition of "investment" in the Obama dictionary is spend, spend, and more spending of the US tax dollars..

Yes and good for Barrack, a great president IMHO. Spend, spend, spend on what you tell me? Yes you probably got it right, spend on the US people's well being, like the good caring pro people non selfish president he is. Best president since Bill Clinton who also cared the same way. What a refreshing change in the US since they got rid of that cretin Bush (and his father wasn't much better either!) I hate this right wing selfish claptrap from folk who have made a load of money and wealth, and mainly on the backs of the poor or poorer working people who make lets be honest up 90% of the US population. At last a US health bill that sees to it that ordinary poor working people do not die due to the inability to afford the expensive health care provided by US companies making an immoral fortune out of peoples' ill health. What do the right wing propose as an alternative to see that ALL folk get equal access to needed healthcare, or do they not care as long as they are all right hmm? Long live Obama, he cares and he is a bloody good human being IMHO.

Oh and by the way, carefully planned and needed Government spending in a time of recession, as any good apolitical economist will tell you, actually helps pull a country out of recession by creating growth. It just costs the wealthy (of whom their kind caused this world recession) a bit more tax which they can afford to and should pay anyway, so they scream like the spoiled brats they generally are not giving a toss about the ordinary folk trying to keep warm and put food on their family tables. Yes I am proud to be a moderate socialist/liberal ("third way" positive centre path believer) and would be ashamed at being a selfish and greedy right wing extreme capitalist, as yes I personally DO care about people's well being and couldn't give a toss for having more money than I need to live reasonably on. What a better caring, happier and more loving world it would be if we all strived for those aims, yet unlike the other equally unworkable extreme of communism still gave good fair and morally sound levels of incentives for those who make the extra effort.

Anyway back fully on topic, it will be good to see Thailand's relations with the USA get even better and Thailand should work more closely with Europe (including the UK) too who have also been big investors and friends of SE Asia for a long long time, and even before the USA even got out of its nappies.

It hs been several months since my "spend Spend Spend" reply and Obama's ratings in the US are "in the toilet".... Lowest approval ratings ever for a president... looks like I wasn't so far off and the bashing I took has proved to be remanded by the voice of the people that matter.... (voters of the USA) .. ha ha

  16. probably easier to download via torrents to your computer or purchase for download.

A good chance if you buy a DVD in Thailand that's its pirated anyway. Can check Pantip Plaza for DVD's.

As far as equipment barbells, yoga mats can be found at dept stores.

Push up handles can be made cheaply from PVC plumbing pieces.

Good advice about the pull up bar, barbells ect... Need to get my hands on the DVD's to see what equipment is required.

Dowload would be impossible from my location. Hoping someone may have some specific info on where to find them.

  17. I am looking for P90X DVD's and equipment here in Thailand. Does anyone know where I can find them ? Pan Thip ? IT Mall ? If so then which shop ?

    Thanks for any info

  18. By the way, the definition of "investment" in the Obama dictionary is spend, spend, and more spending of the US tax dollars..

Not really sure what you're trying to say here so maybe english isn't your first language. The word "invest" normally means you spend money to get money, typically more money then you put in.

I hope by now you realise how silly your post is.

I believe the original post was meant to tell you what "Obama's definition" of investment is. I agree 100% with it. Obama will spend, spend , spend and THAT is why Thailand wants him in closer alliance. Pesonally I hope he stays home as he has embarrassed his country enough and Thailand doesn't need him. Let the Baht float and then perhaps you can have Obama here. If he does come then please find a way to make him stay as we don't want the Socialist back anyway.

  19. On my refrigerator door in Sakhon Nakhon province is attached a menu and price list for the Thai/French beef ranch. This beef is absolutely the very best beef I have ever had even in my home country USA. Yes, there are some upscale steakhouses that can "prepare" a fine tastng steak however the Thai/French beef is consistently the best I have ever bought for home preparation.

The prices are reasonable and call ahead orders will be ready when you arrive. I must regretfully tell you that I am away from my home and can not provide the exact information to you however can tell you that the ranch and slaughter house is just south of Sakhon Nakhon near an army post. Ask your Thai friends to make some enquiries as to the slaughter day and directions and you will be pleasantly surprised as I was. When I return home I will post all the pertinent info.

The best days to go is the slaughter day when all the listed cuts are avaialble. Hamburger meat can be ordered with the % fat content you specify, excellent Filets, Ribeyes, roasts, you name it they have it.

Bring a cooler and some ice. Beef is vacumn packed for you on the premises and is suitable for freezing for short periods. I go every couple of months when I am in country and stock up for about $ 100 - $150 dollars US.

I will post pertinent info when I go back home.
