  1. The subject of visas and getting stamped out and in seems to be perhaps the most written about topic on the forum.

I'm not gonna give an opinion (everybody else has done that already) but what I would say is that you are all without exception stating your personal experience (s) and nothing more.

I have never seen so many experts as you find here on the forum.

The facts are, nothing more and nothing less "that nothing here in Thailand is or should be taken as read, all authorities and this includes immigration officers apply there own version of or understanding of the respective law (s)"

And "the more things change the more they stay the same" holds ever true.

And that includes the mass of people who have set themselves up as experts on every imaginable subject that arises in the realm.

  2. I wouldn't discount it out of hand but the report is pretty vague.

What is being described as "high voltage" 230v and 500v is not so classified in most countries.

If there is any substance to the problem (which perhaps there is) more information should be provided. In any event does anyone think that Thais have the personal discipline to head such warnings.

After all they only wear a crash helmet because it will protect them against financial loss (being fined by the nations finest) and not for their personal safety.

Thais are generally nice people BUT !...........

  3. Just another case of TIT, however it must be said that anyone who did pay out for a card clearly has rocks in their heads and additionally doesn't know a lot about doing business here in the realm.

The scheme was doomed for failure the moment it was proposed.

  4. Someone suggested better intelligence. Perhaps the kids at the local kindergarten might be drafted in to help.

You don't need intelligence to tell you that quarries mean blasting. Blasting means explosives. AND if the authorities didn't know the stuff was there they should have. There should be a register. If they haven't learnt any lessons from the blast at Sanpatong that killed 40 +/- people around five years ago they must be slow learners. AND then there was the magazine that blew up in Isaan not all that long ago. What is does point to is the fact that Thais are very slow learners doesn't it.

All this with our venerable PM saying "trust me, there are no terrorists in Thailand"

  5. From "Membrane"

"If it is the Muslim separatists, why can't they just work things out like anyone else, if they have issues to be dealt with? Sickening..."

I "and anyone else with even half a brain" would agree with you but it ain't gonna work. The problem is they "can't work the issues" out. If they could there would be no problem.

And if they were to do so and they were successful Kofi Annan will have a job for you Mr. Membrane

  6. Maybe I am coming from from outa space but isn't it racist to say a Brit got picked up for the importation of "E"

Now that we are being so sensitive about people, countries etc., would it not have been more correct to say that "someone, from somewhere, got picked up for being in possession of something" ..................

It is a point isn't it george..........

  7. "once upon a time" I rode motorcycles and even did a bit of competition stuff and yes I did ride a bike in the realm a few years back (a good few years in fact) but now you wouldn't catch me on one.

So many people who come and particularly the tourists clearly leave their brains in their home country's as they engage in all manner of stupid things whilst here.

They wouldn't walk on the road at home so why do so here although granted there are so many goddamn motorcycles parked on the footpaths here they don't have too much choice.

I have witnessed a guy (from the old dart) who has been here a number of years a couple of days back here in the north breaking traffic rules because he was just too bloody lazy to go around the klong insteady of driving straight through against the signs, and because he was coming from the direction of his office I dare say he does exactly the same every day or the (and several times a day too)

We have Songkran in less than and the younger tourists will have a brain fade and act like the Thais on their bikes.

Anyways who really gives a shit. The crazy ones at least clearly don't.

  8. castelleone said "the new outbreak of bird flu" suggests that even contributors to the forum have been here too long.

He has started thinking and speaking like a Thai

There is no "new outbreak" the original outbreak of bird flu was never contained, even though (or because) Toksin claimed it had.

  9. Some of you guys are saying "good idea lets have zoning" You might be right on the good idea bit but you are as devoid of brains as the average Thai if you think it could work.

    It just aint gonna happen.

There will be another 1,000 fatalities and who really gives a shit because the Thais themselves certainly don't.

  10. To those who even suggest that "the cure is worse than the disease" would do well to ask a few people in Australia (relating to the Bali bombing) Istanbul or Madrid and the host of other cities / countries where terrorists have been active, whether they agree with this sentiment and see what sort of answers you might get.

If the people who hold this views are Thais it would be more understandable as the old head in the sand trick is always the order of the day isin't it.

  11. I say annihilate the lot (all the pushers, dealers, people with the money behind the business etc)

This of course will of course have a flow on effect and their will be a lot more hookers on the "open" game i.e. all the mia noi's and students who will no longer be enjoying the standard of living that they had grown accustomed to.

No man can support two or three minor wives on legitimate income here in the realm. Or most anywhere else for that matter.

  12. I guess that love comes in all strange ways but I would venture to suggest that a for a farang female to marry a Thai she would have to be more deficient in the brain department that those farang men who marry Thai females.

On the law (and from my own experience archives) it all (divorce and division of assets) depends on the parties.

The law does give some protection to females (and a as farang female you would be expected to receive the same rights)

If he won't cough up with 50% and you do not have grounds to go to court i.e. you can't have him for adultery, (but he can have you for same) you might just consider walking away and putting it down to experience. Just like the multitude of farang men who have done just that. If you have no plans yourself to get married again why worry about getting a divorce, just let the bastard sweat.

There is the risk of course that if you remain in Thailand he will take out a contract on you. Nice, but not unheard of.

  13. Further to my utterings regarding the ability (sic) of the Thai police in solving this crime (or any other for that matter) now they are shown to be absolutely oustanding as the article in the Bangkok Post this morning stated "that the towell was missing from Room No 2701" and that must have taken some arriving at.

Alternatively the Prince Palace Hotel has the room numbers embroidered on the linen. (which i would doubt)

If the case wasn't so macabre the whole thing would be just another case of TIT or Amazing Thailand and very laughable at that.

  14. Whilst it is a bit soon to be saying the Thai police have solved the case one might share "britmaveric's" surprise that they might just have done that.

There must be more unsolved serious crimes in the realm than most other countries. Perhaps more to the point though might be the question "unsolved or rather allowed to die because they involve influential people" and I would suggest that there are many that fall in to that category.

  15. Unless the Swedes actions were malicious and not accidental or intentional they might be deemed to be stupid tourists but they should not be held financially responsibe. That responsibilities lie with the owners of the property who should have insurance for such an eventuality.

What would have happened had someone died (bearing in mind that the Swedes were stupid and the event not caused by malicious intent) again the property owners third party or public risk insurance should have covered the costs.

This all of course anywhere in the world almost outside of some 3rd world country such as Thailand where anything goes and insurance is an almost unheard of means to protect ones equity.

Its like the fact that of the 350,000 motor vehicles in Chiangmai (motorcycles excluded) only 50,000 are registered and which therefore have 3rd party insurance cover. Add in the fact that the majority of Thai drivers do not hold a drivers licence of any discription.

With the above and numerous other examples that exist one takes their lives and their financial well being at risk every day of the week here in the realm.

  16. I agree with "spellbound" They should let them rot in the bkk hilton. They knew what they were doing before they embarked on the venture, they knew the risks, they knew they had children (but did they think of their kids "did they <deleted>. not on your nellie did they") they were just ###### bent on thinking of their own miserable selves. Had it happened in Singapore, Saudi, and perhaps even the states they would remain incarcerated for a whole lot longer than 8-10 years.

And if the "hilton" is not all thay comfortable why should it be.

  17. The people in the Thai Government are a bunch of ######s. If they are representative of the Thai people of voting age (and one would think and expect them to be representative) the the general Thai populace are a bunch of the same.

One thing that I don't think has been raised in the current forum is the purported reasons for the earlier closing times. One that was being bandied about over the past weeks is that the earlier closing time would cut down on the sexual activities of Thai youth. Well in the first place they shouldn't be in the bars anyway (and wouldn't if the realms finest were doing their job) Well now with the earlier closing time these young people will now connect up earlier in the evening and have more time available to screww themselves senseless. All in all just another case of TIT

  18. Some of you guys are being very complimentary of "bird brain watana" in saying he has the maturity of a six year old.

The man has not got the inteligence or IQ of a geranium.

Notwithstanding that the real nigger (s) in the wood pile is taksin and his close cohorts.

They can't and won't see that the problem was not in thailand having bird fly but in lying about it. Now the world knows what longer term residents in the realm have know for years (and years) that no one can believe a single solitary utterance coming from the mouth of a thai.

Steam cleaning toyotas the is an absolute f... wit and he and his buddies are only diggind a bigger hole for themselves. If they shut their lying mouths thailand might be able to commence exporting chicken by the end of the year. The way they are going it will be no time soon.

  19. And so they should (get rid of them) Footpaths are for walking on, they are there for pedestrians, and not bloody halkers and motorcycles etc.

If there are no stalls the nations finest would not be able to demand their backhanders.

Doesn't matter where you go in Thailand the ignorant pricks park their bikes and stalls all over the footpaths preventing people from walking on them and forcing them on to the roadway.

Thailand will never (ever) lose it's 3rd world status if it doesn't start to enforce some of the existing laws.

One could go on ad infinitum i.e. traffic laws, tax, and so on.

  20. As has been said before (by myself and many others) lying is endemic in Thailand.

The general Thai populace have accepted it as the norm and think nothing of it.

They are brought up from children to accept the practice and to do it themselves as a way of life.

The Hon PM has really dug a hole this time though as the world at large (note the comments from EU spokes person) has focused on the fact that no one can never accept as the truth anything that he utters.

  21. There is not a lot more to be said about the whole affair other than that deceipt, lying, head in the sand, believing everything you are fed are endemic here in Thailand.

I'm sure every one will remember Thaksin making the statement when he was in Big Jiew's gov't that he would fix the traffic problem in the Big Mangonand we can see just how much he achieved can't we.

Then there is the matter of his son going in to take his uni exam with all the answers in his pocket. That seems to have died a natural hasn't it.

Then there is the tale of Chalerms son. That too has gone very quiet as well. As Trink would say it's just another case of TIT
