  1. sawadee pee mai khap.

If we do this by democratic means, it means that the TV Open Championship will be held in the central region of Thailand. There are 22 members that have voted in total,

The question is how many people will participate in the Central Region? (Im putting up a poll for that)
Then we also have to vote on the golf course in Central region that we shall play, or do we just pic the one available???

    Lets do this :)
    Cheers!

  2. Madam and I would be interested ... if it's a men only do then I wouldn't be. There are so many nice courses to choose from and everyone will have there preference. Finding one with accommodation at a reasonable price could be a problem ... anyway maybe George would sponsor smile.pngsad.png

You and Madam are most welcome to participate in this event. Everybody are welcome to participate, the more people the better!

  3. I have participated in a an annual event between social golfers from Hua Hin and Kanchanaburi which was over 3 days.....had an absolutely great time and met some funny and terrific new friends. Total number of golfers about 24.

I will be happy to attend the Thai Visa tournament, and I do recommend it be more than 1 day.

As mentioned before, the golf is secondary to the social aspect, so to be able to organise it so everyone is staying at the same accommodation is a big plus.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Cheers.

    I could not agree more!

Nice to have you aboard, lets hope it will happen!

  4. Unbelievable. 100 views and no recommendations?

I would love to help you but i never been to Phuket.

Is there a driving range i Phuket? In that case I would rekommend to go there and ask, Or a golf shop, or the golf courses. They usualy have, or know where to go and get some lessons.

Ther is also lots of basic lessons on You Tube that are great!

One of the best advices I got, is to keep your eyes on the ball, don't get curious and look up befor you hit the ball, even low handicapers do this mistake...

    Cheers.

  5. I have a friend who yet does not know that I will meet up in Thailand, he he... But Im sure he will also join this event if it happens.

It would be cool to go to Central. The Narai Hill looks nice! http://www.naraihillgolf.com/TH/home.php

Puyai, what course did you like in Lopburi?

Naraihill is the one I have played. It is a great course. There isn't a better course, value for money wise. It's very playable from the forward tees and goes to almost 7500 yards from the back. Greens are quick and being a hilly course you get some wicked breaking putts.

Once we get enough numbers will have to have a vote on a course to play, but I do think this would be a good place. Can't really get anymore central

Nara Hill looks great, A 2 day Championship there would be nice...

  6. I voted northern because I live here. In reality Bangkok would be the best place as all areas have flights there.

This will be (I think) my 10th visit to LOS, I have never been but I always wanted to go to the north, It would be great to go there aswell.. :) But it looks like its going to be around the central parts of Thailand... But we will see how things develop, I think much depends on how many will participate and how far they are willing to travel...

At this point Im ready to play in Central, BKK and Pattaya. But,,, if there would be around 30 persons who actually would go to the north to participate, then i would also go..

    :)

  7. I tried to learn Thai few years ago but unfortunatly gave up after half the book . I think the best way to learn Thai is to start at kindergarten level and take it slowly, and to take that toner thing in a more serious manner... Hard work, determination and patience is key issues, as with everything else....
I think that if to start learning sentences about ordering food , asking for directions and what things cost , is a more difficult and confusing way to go in the end.

If I would have the chance to move to the LOS on a permanent basis (please god, help me on that!?), I would undoubtedly go to school at least one hour a day, regardless of how long it would take , for me it's about respect for culture and Thailand and things would get much easier in many ways... I still try to learn some new words when i visit Thailand as a tourist but it feels pointless when I forget most of it when I return to Sweden... Last time i tried to learn how to count and made it to 100, but I have forgotten all about it since I have not visited Thailand in 2 years...

Most immigrants who come here to Sweden do learn the language, but on the other hand, the schooling for immigrants is for free and Swedish is probably more easier to learn than Thai .

I often visited koh mak between 99-03 . The first time I went into a store for shoping supplies , there was two girls behind the counter who looked pretty sour at the time, when I was supossed to pay for the supplies, the girl ask the other girl on something when the other responds " falang som nam naa "
I asked her " som nam naa? " with a smile, because I know what it means... she was so ashamed... Anyway, when I come back after a few days they where very service minded and nice to me with big smiles on their lips...

Trying is better than nothing, so keep up the good work and keep on trying smile.png

    Cheers!

  8. I attend a tournament once a year in phuket. They have a website phuket10's rugby, which is organized by a few expats but is on a much bigger scale and has teams from around the world that attend, has being going for 10+ years and is well organized and very fun socially. It has a few different categories but one is called the coffin dodgers tournament which is for 35yrs and older player's and who are really there for the social part of things and play abit of rugby as well. Could be worth looking into for a few ideas, I reckon at the end of the day if you can make it fun it will work.

Thanks Jubes ... I checked the website and they seem well organized, it would have been nice to participate in such an event...

Personally I feel that if we organize a competition for members trough Thai Visa, it will mostly be about the social part and the chance to meet new friends and maybe make new contacts in Thailand. How the contest ends is less important to me...

I was in Koh Samui around 2002, and there was some restaurant owners who arranged a 2 day football tournament (soccer) "Koh Samui world cup",,, It was between Swedish, French, Italian and English restaurants but also a World Team participated (guests). The winning team had to stand for the party afterwards at their own restaurant... It is among the most enjoyable events I have attended to in Thailand.

Stuff like that makes Thailand even more fun than it already is!

  9. If there is enough interest and members are prepared to organise the event, Thaivisa Golf could contribute in some way - maybe a prize or sponsorship of a party/after event drinks??

That would be truly great if we get a little support from a sponsor!! thumbsup.gif

I could try to organize this, hopefully whit some help... I think it would be a great event in the end!

  10. You could open up a new thread with a poll. If members are interested they can vote for an area.

    1. Northern

    2. Eastern

    4. Western

    5. Central

    6. Pattaya

    7. Bangkok

    8. Southern

That way you'll get an idea of where to hold the tournament.

A very good idea, thanx! I just made a poll from your post but i jumped over Nr3 ;) Thank you very much!

  11. Good VS bad caddie, I never tip less than B300, they need it more than me.

Caddies are a part of the fun in Thailand, I get many good laughs, I learn new words in Thai, they know the greens and distances... I always by caddies drinks and food during the game to, makes them smile even more than they already do... thumbsup.gif

Very nice, and I have played that course long time ago!

Long windy (in october) course, if I'm not incorrect...

    Thank you :)

You are absolutely right, it's a long course, and it's usualy very windy, especially in October! It's my home course but unfortunately, I will move a little further south and will join elsewhere for next year...

    Glad you liked it!

  13. Tanks for reply.

I have not decided yet if I stay in BKK during the new years eve, but if I do I will probably play some golf during the day and do the party in the evening! I will try and call the course directly but it seems to be more expensive to go that way.

Is there anyone else here who know if the site "thaigolfers.com" is to be trusted?

Frankly, I would appeal to the TV expat golf buddy jungle drum. It can't be that hard for one of the societies to get you fixed up. Not even on new years eve that is. I know at least two guys on here who regularly get players involved...

I'm not in town, otherwise I would have joined you.

Surely someone else who plays regularly in BKK can fix Jumalauta up...??

"Frankly, I would appeal to the TV expat golf buddy jungle drum" sorry but didnt get that one :)

But it would be awesome if getting hooked up inn BKK! The 30:th would also work for me....
