  1. I am a mid 30s guy and have been living in Thailand for 10 years and 2 years i found out i have HIV. I am not a drug user or a homosexual i caught HIV from my soon to be ex-wife who was living with HIV knowingly but she never disclosed this to me or was receiving treatment for it at the time. She became really sick 2 years ago and after some tests at the hospital she "discovered" she had the virus. Only later on after a few alarm bells that i found out she knew all along.

I go to the city Hospital to receive my medication and the staff are very helpful although the lack of English can cause a issue and my lack of Thai does not contribute to this factor. The only discrimination i ever feel living in North East Thailand is the one of being a white guy when i go to the Hospital. The HIV patients all go to the same clinic so everybody is in the same situation but the looks that i get from fellow patients are alarming.

In the last 4-5 years HIV medication has become so advanced and with tests that have been carried out globally over numerous patients and years I can safely say that i can and will lead a "normal" life and that the chances of infecting somebody else EVEN without contraception are 0% as long as my current HIV status remains the same.

There is a stigma attached to HIV that without a good knowledge of education & understanding the virus will always be there I am afraid to say .

  2. Its quite natural wherever in the world for men to give the woman housekeeping (although my wife calls it her salary) so she can pay for the groceries and not go to your wallet and then you question how much has been taken.

I give my wife 3000bhat on Monday for the week & its gone by Friday ! But she buys the food, pays the water bills, pays for school uniforms etc and i pay the rent & electric.

  3. Went into the bookhouse (city lodge hotel) at weekend with the nipper & ball and chain the menus is the same with a few new specials i had a beef wellington which was served with mash and asparagus absolutely lovely & only 250bt . Its a shame she had to move from last location as was a nice setting especially on xmas day with a group of people but new place inside has been done up nice with new tables spaced out well from others, laptop with a big screen in far corner where u can go on youtube and play what music you want i highly recommend it.

  4. I buy Gold with any spare money i have left over and don't look at it like a investment just a form of currency which you can check daily. Earlier in the year the price for 1 Bhat of Gold was 21000 now it is around 19000 Bhat. Guaranteed In the next year the price will go back up to over 20,000. You won't make alot and you won't lose alot but you might make a little or lose a little if you need to sell.

My advice is buy a small safe and dip your toes in the water thumbsup.gif

who guarantees the gold price increase? huh.png

4 years ago gold lovers were convinced gold will go UP and UP and UP. today they are looking at a loss of 38% plus the loss incurred what their capital would have earned in 4 years.

summary: those who bought in 2011 did not lose a little, they lost BIG!

Time will Guarantee gold price increase that is always a certainty.. Surely only spouses bought gold at 27,000bhat a bhat in 2011 not real investors! ;-)

  6. Is the policy enforced at Thai embassies in Laos (i normally go Vientienne) on 3 Tourist visa's WITHOUT a period of 90 day outside Thailand ? I had a new passport issued a year ago and my tourist visa was transferred over and i have now made 2 tourist visa's since this, next time i go and make a new tourist visa in Vientienne i was slightly concerned they didnt issue it to me. Has anybody got experience on a issue or similar from either Laos Thai Embassies?

  7. Love paypal or hate paypal they make paying for goods online easy & is still on whole the safest method for online transactions. Paypal are to blame for my grey hairs appearing at 30!! luckily after months of looking at forums & deciding if i should or should not buy, i took what i thought was a risk at the time a ebay/paypal user guide for $30(about 1,000thb at the time) !! A few weeks later i put what i had learned from this guide to the test & it worked!! 4 years on i can honestly say i have parted with $30 (approx 1,000thb) no better way in my life.

  8. I am traveling to Udon for a few days but not getting on a bus all the way or being held ransom by bangkok airlines so the cheaper flying alternative route to get to Udonthani is via Phuket. The Phuket-Udonthani flight is at 14.40 daily so i need to leave samui for the 7 oclock ferry then straight to phuket to get the 14.40 flight. It should be easy but i can not find anyone that can or does this route. Does anyone have any sensible and not to expensive suggestions?

  9. As far as i know they have no specific route they go where they please when they please so it really is pot luck if you get 1. Why dont you just hire a moped the roads are not as bad as they used to be and you can also come and go as you please that way and not have to worry about taxis or hitching a lift....

  10. I used to go to the small place right next to Punpreeda Resort down by that newish Indian restaurant. I guess she did a good job because everywhere I went the girls would shout out "Handsome man!".

AHAHA....yeah, well who needs a good haircut to be called that there??? :D

Anyways will check than one to, is because I had some Thai cut butcher my hair last go around, so you understand why I askin' around.

    Thx buddy

Jens have you tried the barbers at the back of Green Mango?

Head round the lake past the back of McDonalds and turn right. Just past the first Seven. Two gents there will trim your barnet neatly for 100baht. Nostrills, eye brows, sideburns, shave, talc and token shoulder rub. If you get the woman just politly refuse and wait for one of the gents.

I have next to no hair but their attention to detail reasures me and everytime I leave the ladies seem to notice :) .

I'll second that. theres 2 barbers there on the right hand side. Dan is the mans name (think he has a sign with his name??) best haircut i have ever had anywhere in the world. his english is good as well

  11. If your idea of a good time is going out getting hammered and dancing and carousing at 3:30 in the morning (in a bar frequented by locals packing heat) then you should expect the unexpected.

Honestly, I have never understood the "middle of the night clubbing" mentality.

There is clearly demand for it as they wouldn't be open at these times

  12. There was a thai man shot on saturday night witnessed by myself ...

Yes, well, go on. Tell us the story.

It was approx 3.30am i was chatting to a few friends near the bar and i heard a few loud noise's we all looked about and then we saw a commotion happening with a few people thai and farang gathered in 1 area when we went over to inspect there was a thai man being gathered up of the floor by 2-3 men (its a bit vague as i'd had a few by this time) they were struggling to gather him up but he was covered literally head to toe in blood getting it all on his friends/floor. At this point my missus told me to get away from it all which i did and go home. I have heard that the thai man died the following day. I'm no doctor but from looking at him i'd have thought he died there and then. Sorry it's a bit of a sketchy story but there's not a great deal more that i can add as thats my account of the story maybe another member can give their version of events?

  13. I had been told about a road along the northside of Chaweng Lake that isn't open to traffic and tonite I saw it for myself. I was in the back of Bar Ice and noticed a wide road (4 car widths) covered in brick, not concrete or asphalt. On each side was a raised area for walking and on the side closest to the lake there is a wall. Between that and the lake are grass and trees. Even as a pedestrian-only area it would be perfect for something along the lines of Fisherman's Village - respectable bars/cafes/restaurants and shops.

Why did they go to all the expense of building it and now not use it? Does anyone know the story behind it?

Why do you want to know??
