  1. Years ago, someone mentioned briefly in a post that Haiphong, VN, was expat heaven.  French architecture and leafy boulevards, great food, decent nightlife, cheap prices, stunning nature, and really friendly women. Some overseas aid officials and other such types make their base there, apparently. I've been to nearby Hanoi and Danang, and they seem quite livable, with milder climates than Bangkok, Danang area offers mountains and the beaches. Immigration would be the problem with anywhere in VN.

  2. For old-fashioned radio, eg, news, info and decent live DJs, you can't beat RTHK Radio 3, Hong Kong's public broadcaster, if you're in Asia. I'm a regular listener of always-amusing Steve James in the late afternoon and Money Talk in the mornings.  I find automated, voice tracked internet radio cold and impersonal. RTHK can be heard online on their app.

Also, I tune into Surf 102.5 in Hua Hin, as well as AXR, out of Singaporre, which unfortunately is voice-tracked and plays too much thump-thump and teen music.

  3. My wife a tourist visa to go with me to my country, Canada. To get the visa, the Canadian embassy requires that she provide "proof that your spouse (me) will accompany you to Canada."

Anyone know what document, etc., would constitute "proof"?

And why am I not asking the embassy direct? Because I can't. They have an auto-phone service, whereby you place a message and wait for them to respond, and the proof must be submitted in four days' time.

Note that air tickets don't count.

    Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

  4. I suspect that Jack Reynolds is a pseudonym for a famous writer, since the book conveys such intimate knowledge of a prostitute's lifestyle. After all the book was published in the 50s when the West was a lot more prudish about such matters.

Also, "Woman of Bangkok" is such a tour de force - and Reynolds evidently such a gifted writer - yet he only wrote one book! This seems suspicious to me.

As for your question, about five years ago Bernard Trink reported spotting the woman who inspired the "White Leopard" playing pool on Suk. Soi 4. Very old, but still alive then. Maybe Mr. Trink knows something.
