  1. I'm going and would appreciate some non-Brits to join. No offense to my cousins from across the pond but I'd rather talk Stanley Cup Playoffs with someone for a change. ;)

I'll be arriving on Samui tomorrow, got a few things to get set up at the rental house and some running around to do, I'll try to catch up at Hookers or Yum Yum with ya on the 1st and talk some playoffs, I've watched a few games up till I came over to BKK . I don't know you yet, but I'm the hansum one, at least thats what they kept calling me in Bangkok the past week.

  2. Looks like #2 is going up at 08:45 Seattle time (Dec 22). It looks good for the weather, but you never know up there in Seattle. It is painted in the ANA colors, but it will not be delivered to them because of the wing box changes made, something to do with excess weight from that. I guess the delivered models will have the weight issues worked out. Also, not sure yet, but #1 may go up again before x-mas.

  3. Looks like 787 #2, (ZA002) may be making its first flight Tuesday (Dec. 21st), weather permitting :) . Not sure what time yet, I'm thinking around the same time as #1 (10:00 hrs. PST) or so. As far as winglets go, they were installed on existing aircraft to improve performance. I doubt the 787 will ever be fitted with any type of winglet as the wings are a totally new design, claiming 20% better performance over existing designs. Cheers.

  4. I always go to the Catcandoo bar in Bangrak for the F1. The last one was later than usual and because of the sun the picture on the TV was crap! The owner, Jay was in BKK so mentioned it when he returned. He admitted the Tv was past its best and would do something about it. Within the next couple of days he had 2 new large flat screens installed so you can now watch from both ends of the bar. So not only have we some of the best pizza at 99 baht for all you can eat F1 days but 2 new Tv's to enjoy. Bargain!!

So it proves that it does pay to mention to the owner any problems that you have. After all if you do not tell them what is wrong they cannot rectify things :)

How did the new sets work out yesterday?

Hey Dunc, Joe here, I can't believe he got 2 , I've told him for around 2-3 years to get 2 smaller sets, instead of one large one, hope he put one over the bar so we can rest the elbows :D Anyways, Working hard now, I'll be back in December to knock down some cold ones and check out the F1 events

  6. I have to give Senor Pico (as mentioned above) a try, but to be frank, I have not been able to find anything even approaching true Mexican or even TexMex food in Thailand. To my tastes, the Thai approximations of Mexican food don't even taste good. (A local version can taste good in its own right, such as Bostonian Italian food--not really Italian, but pretty darn tastey.)

I leave for Chicago this week where I will fill myself on steak and all things beef (with maybe a couple hotdogs thrown in), then it is off to San Diego for three days where I will dine splendidly on Mexican food.

Do any Bangkok stores even sell decent tortillas? I can make a nice carne asada or fajitas even with the beef here, so if I could get decent tortillas, I could make an adequate Mexican taco-type meal.

Seeing as your going to be in San Diego, pick up a few dozen Guerrero brand tortillas, and then stop by smart and final and get a gallon of salsa tapatio. That should take care of your cravings for a while when you return. It is amazing how just good tortillas and some good mexican salsa makes a huge difference.

At the risk of sliding off-topic, can you store tortillas somehow? When in San Diego, I always buy fresh tortillas made that day. But can I bring back a whole passel of them and store them by freezing or something?

bonobo, yes freeze them in zip loc bags in small portions, as many as you need per serving, spray a little water into the bag before freezing, dehydration is a problem, thaw in the fridge the day of use. Sorry to get off topic, however I've never found good Mexican food in bkk, its just a logistical thing with ingredients.

  8. I was there this evening again. Drinks (Atomic Margaritas) arrived promptly, all tables outside were full. some people eat. Prices are fine. Value for money at least drink wise. It is aiming at tourists and local expats as well. Not everyone on this forum needs to look at 20 baht here or there. If you cannot afford it - fine, doesn't make you a worse person, just stay away and eat your khao pad around the airport and drink your Chang at CatCanDo or 7/11

SC, how much is Chang at CatCanDo?

Not know, never go there !

I'm confused, you were so authoritative on the subject of where to find cheap beer. I know the price of Chang at 7/11, but having never been to CCD I was counting on you to give the scoop on whether their beer is really cheap or not. Now I don't know what to believe when I read your posts. Color me disappointed (and OT).

99 baht jugs, 49 baht mugs at Catcantoo
