After much flaffing on our part my Mrs will be applying for a EEA family permit in Bangkok next week,

I just have a few final questions , that my wife has raised, after her talking to an agency in Bangkok.

One they say its essential that I submit bank statements. I was reluctant to do this as they dont look too brilliant, and they are not listed as required documentation, I have included mortgage papers and pay slips thou.

and two they say that theres a 2 month wait for the outcome? Im sure i read on here that a Family Permit should be treated as a tier 1 application and be done in a few days?

Maybe it last minute nerves but can anyone advise.

Bank statements are important, as they prove that your salary declaration, and montly payments for the likes of morgages and utilities are as you have stated. I don't think they are look at the actual amount you have in there right now. When we did ours 1 month ago i only had about £100 left in mine. If after you pay the essentials (morgage and utilities) you have £90 left a week, you should be ok, I think going by what others have said.

It took us one week to get an answer, there was a telephone interview the day before we got it.

My wife has just arrived and is getting used to the Uk. Whats next, she is in on an EEA family permit. I would like her to get ajob as soon as she is ready, I guess she needs a national insurance number, but I have read that these can only be got when someone starts work. I would have thought she would need this to prove she is allowed to work in this country. Confused.

I guess she also needs to apply for her residency card, but i hear that this can take 6 months, she will need her passport for flights back to northern ireland at christmas, so not sure what to do, is there any other ID card she could use for the flights. Thanks

- with 3 network you got to pay £30 a month in order to get unlimited calls abroad , and 300 min to the UK mobiles and landlines. It's called mix and match.

Thats true, I used to use 18185 too, but qualitys not so good, especially at peak times. £15 contract (300 anytime minutes) and £15 unlimited (3000 min) is indeed £30 per month. I just found it good to prove telephone calls as they are listed on the bill, 18185 came on a spread sheet.

Although if you use 18185 from a landline (BT) it cost 1p per minute plus small connection fee, so its better than call cards as you also have an excel record of your calls.

Beware of booking flights from Thailand 2 clients of mine have turned up at the airport only to find the travel agents have cancelled the flight. It happened only yesterday they returned to Pattaya with the tourist police to collect the cash they have paid.

Book with Etihad direct on the website they may ask you to fax a copy of you're credit card if you are not travelling with her.

you are not joking i hate being here apart from the woman i love very much i would assume its the same as they both settlement visas.

I'm not sure, I'd never heard of telephone interviews before today, must of the talk on the forum is about regular interviews at the embasey or uk visa. Hopefully your one of the lucky ones that don't need an interview but yeah its very tough being apart and even more so knowing that a negitive decision will mean so much time apart.

one week, but that was for eea family perit, not sure what type of interview it will be for a fiancee visa. The waiting is hard

The embasey haven't got back to us today after the telephone interview at 10:30 thai time. Is this normal after a EEA family permit to UK application. Any one have previous experience of this?????

Hi, my wife had her interview today by phone. She said that she made one mistake, when ask where her daughter is staying she said,"aunt of boyfriend" instaed of aunt of old boyfriend. The interviewer picked up on this and asked her does she have two boyfriends, she said no only me.

Do you think this will go against us. Appoligies if this seems dumb, but very worried now.

Dam Just checked and its 22000 batt with taxes, I am talking about a one way flight to london, is this my best option or does anyone know any others. Thanks

Of course she can. Mighty Travel on Silom at Naratiwat (Silom Plaza) are one of the big agents for Etihad and I have bought tickets for family and friends. They prefer cash as, as typical here in Thailand when I pulled out a credit card they said they would charge 3pct more. Also Mighty travel usually gives an extra discount of about 1000 baht per ticket.

I only found out about them (mighty travel) a couple of years ago when I went to the Etihad office at All Seasons Place and they recommended them.

Hi all, My wife is going to make an EEA family permit, I have dual nationality (Irish/British) on a new aquired Irish passport. Hope all is in order and we have tones of evidence. Thanks for all the helpful advice from everyone.

If she is successful, I have give her money for a flight but not sure where she could book it. Seen that ethiad have flights for 18000 batt, does anyone know if ethiad flights can be booked at swanapun airport, or what would be her best option. Hope i'm not counting my chickens before they are hatched. Any help or comments welcome.

Admittedly via iCard, and the reception can be variable, but I pay 0.2p per minute from the UK. From my office I have a contract with a maximum 10p for any UK landline calls or, if I use my mobile the call time comes off my contracted free minutes. Spent an hour on the phone today for 12p !

To clarify, its from the UK. You need a three mobile (Hutinson network) on contract, so it will only apply to those who have a three network mobile.

You then pay £15 per month (1 month minium) and you can call thai mobile for 3000 minutes.

International Saver lets you call standard landline & mobile numbers in: Canada, China, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand and the USA.

You can also call from the UK to standard landlines only, in: Australia, Austria, Azores, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Madeira, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, South Korea and Taiwan.

As far as i'm aware you can also use this service when abroad in the following countries: Austria, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, Hong Kong or even Australia but only if you conect to 'hutch 3'

As i said, it works out at 0.5p a minute but is really only of interest to those who have a 3 network mobile, Hope this clears things up. I'm not a 3 employee by the way, just have cut my phone bills from £120 so thought the info might be of use to those whos loved ones havent joined them yet

If anyone is spending excedingly large amounts of money calling thailand and has a 3 network phone, you can get an add on called 'international saver'. £15 for 3000 minutes.

Saved me a fortune and you can use your bill as evidence for any visas, unlike call cards.

Ok, decided to apply for EEA family permit based on my dual nationality. I will apply using my right to irish citizenship and very recently aquired irish passport.

My question is this. I have traveled to thailand every time on my British passport. Should I then included it along with my new irish passport in the VAF5 application. It has stamps to show my visits but will its inclusion go against my application, as they might say i'm British and so should be applying for a settlement visa.

Phoned up the Irish Embassy in London, they sent the application form. I sent it off and the passport was back in a couple of weeks. My visa took a little longer as the mrs was already in the Uk on a SV and i was changing her status to that of a spouse of an EU citizen working in the UK. If your'e doing it in one go at the Bangkok Embassy, is should be straight away. I think?

Thanks very much. So your mrs was already in on a settlement visa. Can you change visa type after. Did you get your settlement visa money back? or did you avoid having to pay the £750 ILR. Did you make the origional settlement visa on a British passport. Thanks for your time.

I went down the Irish route last year. A doddle and free (apart from paying for an Irish passport) The only drawback is that it will take her 5 years to get her UK citizenship.

Where did you apply for the passport, and how long did it take to come. Is the visa decided quickly?

Thanks very much for the help. I think it looks like a good option. Although I'll have to try and get an urgent irish passport then forward it to her quickly, as I am in England now alone and missing her.

I am about to apply for a settlement visa for my wife, but i've just read a post about a family permit. Basically I have a British passport but because i am from Northern Ireland and my parents are from the republic of Ireland, I can apply for an Irish passport and as such have a dual nationality.

I have lived in the UK all my life so can I apply for a family permit using the Irish passport, if for some reason the settlement visa is not granted, or is there any other loop holes that I can apply to my case.
