For the past two years I've visited Thailand on a Non-Imm visa based on retirement at over 50 years old.
Now the rules have changed, according to what's stated on the Thai Consulate website (London), I need a criminal record check which can only be provided by Scotland Yard!!!
Has anyone any experience of obtaining this document? I'm sure Scot Yard have got more important things to do than spend their time issuing these documents for people planning a trip to Thailand?
Thanks.

Well, I've had my PVR/HDD set up for a week now and would like to deliver my opinion.....
The PVR is an improvement over the old non HD PVR, however I am encountering one big problem. During virtually every recorded programme I play back, I find that the picture goes blank for one or two seconds at some point but when the picture returns I find the programme has jumped ahead by approx 2 minutes! I can rewind and watch the missed portion but I find it very frustrating especially if it's live sports I've recorded (there might be a goal or other important action in that 2 minute spell).
Also noticed that when recording 'series' there is no info displayed in the PVR list which tells you what episode number it is.
Has anyone else experienced the 2 minute 'jumping' problems same as myself?
Regards,
Bulshy.

Thanks for the info.
Just got back from Tukcom in Pattaya armed with a 'Toaster' by IdeaTools docking station (Baht 1,200) and a 2TB WD HDD (Baht 3,360).
A quick phone call to Truevisions to activate the PVR service and I was up & running within 20 mins of getting back to my condo. Despite some misinformation provided over the phone from the Truevisions operative.... she reckoned (wrongly) that the power for my new HDD needed to be supplied from the Truevisions receiver. I informed her that all should be well because the HDD will draw it's power from the powered dock.
All seems to be working well and I'm looking forward to recording some sport in High-def over this coming weekend.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Bulshy.

TS79,
Any chance you could list the model numbers of all the HDD/Docking/cables etc you bought and where you bought them, thanks. Regards, Bulshy.

Hi,
Just thought I'd relate my own experiences of Truevisions/HD/PVR etc.
Approx four years ago I foolishly paid truevisions around 15,000 Baht for their PVR recorder (deal was purchase only, NO rental).
It was unreliable from the start with around 10 to 20% of all programmes recorded being unplayable after sticking /freezing part way through (very annoying when it's the last episode of a series you've been following!)
I got the runaround from truevisions technitions & service personel (I won't bore you with all the details) and they wouldn't give me a refund even though I first reported the fault within the 2 week period specified for this.
Anyway, I mostly got round the problem by recording EVERYTHING twice just in case it froze up first time, ie I would record say Air Crash Investigation on Nat Geo at 10 pm and then again at 4am the next day or whenever. This method was fine apart from live football etc at 2 or 3 am as it's only shown live once! I got round this by looping the pvr boxes signal through my Panasonic dvd recorder and recoding the signal on to the Pana HDD (Note: the Pana DVD recorders are fantastic, never missed a programme recorded on these machines.... just wish you could get one with Truevisions tuner built in!)
Peter, may I ask you why it's not possible to record on to a dvd recorder from the Truevisions HD Plus box as I see it sports both composit & component outputs (along with HDMI)?
I have invested heavily in antisipation of upgrading to the HD Plus box (2 HD ready plasma telly's plus around £400 worth of HDMI cabling to carry the signals) but Truevisions seem to be giving me the runaround again. First they send me an sms informing me I can upgrade so I call them and they say I'll have to wait. This week they sent me a snail mail letter informing me again that I can upgarde so I call them and they say I'll have to wait! Seems the Chonburi agents don't have any esata HDD's in stock! Does anybody know if a HDD with USB 3 will work? I understand that USB 3 is faster than esata anyway.
One thing Truevisions have failed to mention in all their information is what about the 15,000 I had to pay for my PVR four years ago? I feel I should get a partial refund at least however I'm glad that I won't be owning the HD Plus box as that means truevisions will remain resposible for it continuing working. Thanks for all the posts regarding this topic. Bulshy.

Criminal record check from Scotland Yard?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Thanks for the prompt replies.
I'm after the multiple entry O-A visa due to being 52 years old.
As far as the medical check goes, there's a standard form which can be printed off from the Thai Consulate website. I'm sure my GP will be more than happy to complete this (for a fee no doubt!)
So how does one obtain the police clearance? Do you just waltz in to your local nick and ask? Why does the Thai Consulate specify Scotland Yard? Do the police charge for this document?
Thanks.
