Based on the last time I saw them,I wonder if maintenance has kept them in a flyable condition,so if not then doubt can make it to Arizona at the moment...................

If you have a Honda Safety riding Center anywhere near you they teach basic motorbike riding skills up to advanced and you can start on 150's then 300's up to 650's.Also slow speed handling etc etc.Cheers

I have had Cigna for a couple of years (Silver),however they have averaged 10% increase each nd every renewal. They did cover a knee replacement late last year with my Us$ 1500 deductible,so no complaints that they do not pay for stuff, however at 65 extrapolating forward the premiums seem to be in the unobtainium range in the future.I contacted them re the increase being higher than most other providers but got no reponse and after 4 weeks(plus chaser emails) got fed up waiting. So cancelled the insurance for end of this month.
I also looked at Pacific Cross but last year they wanted me to do a full health check at a hospital with full blood/stool/xrays etc etc at my own cost for underwriting, however when I queried them what happens if I dont like your 'quote/exclusions if any' then I would end up wearing the cost.As you mentioned the small print allows them to hike the premiums up to 25% per year depending on your claim status/age.........
Seems most local insurers the same hence my wish to stay with overseas providers who are more strictly regulated.
I have changed to another provider but at 65 it is getting harder even if in good health.
My advice is stay with overseas provider if you can.

So does Cnx.(Chiangmai) and it’s round trip if your visa class includes the airport transfers.

Ok my yellow tabian baan was issued by the District office on Thonglor.Went there around 1000 yesterday with my passport and the yellow book and 30 mins and 60baht later had the pink ID card.Very good service.
Had to go to the bank later and the ID was accepted.Checked in for a flt this morning (domestic) and again the pink ID was accepted without question. So it does have uses.

I have had a Elite Visa since 2008,just renewed my lifetime 5 year visa for the 3rd time.I am a resident of Hk and have retired so while I cannot comment on the tax issues in Germany,I can say that the Elite visa satisfies my needs and does not bring the heartache or trepidation of renewing a yearly visa.Yes its expensive but therefore also brings benefits,If you have the spare cash and it does not impinge on your lifestyle at the moment then why not!
Cheers

For what it's worth, have one of the old style TE visa for life and that was in 2007,still works fine and don't have the worries of immigration visits as also travel regionally enough that I am never here for more than 90 days.
While it's a chunk of cash it does give peace of mind in case the rules change on retirement or any other visa.
Yes it's a sunken cost but have made use of the services and will continue to do so????
So personally I think it's worth or it.
Cheers

Thanks trawler.
When you say "tax return" are you talking about the sales tax refund offered at the airports? I'm unclear about this.
"nobody bothered with it except as others have mentioned in the bigger hotels."
They certainly bother about it now, I'd say.
No in the older days you needed a tax return clearance certificate if you lived in Thailand and wanted to leave(every time).

I first visited in 87 and then worked here from 92-96.The tax return onleaving had stopped around 91 I think.
I do remember after check in with your boarding pass you went to a booth to pay airport tax of 500B for international and 50B for domestic.
Only just recently has my wife done our first TM 30 report as I never stayed longer than a couple of weeks and nobody bothered with it except as others have mentioned in the bigger hotels.
There were a lot of people who filled there passports relatively quickly but never left the country although the passports had high mileage.????

Police report not needed for a lost driving licence.Just replaced mine in CNX and all that was required was copy of passport/residence proof(tabien Baan) and fill out a form there plus 105Baht and then off for the photos and new licence.Very efficient.
(I also had a printed photo of my lost licence as well.)cheers

No issues enteri9ng with them in hand carry in/out of Bkk or Cnx so far.Just went to NBTC region 9 office here in Chiang Mai and in/out in 10 mins.Forms filled in in Thai/copy of passport/photos of drones showing serial nos.1 form per drone.
However this is registration not a CAAT permit to fly which is my next step.

I seem to recall around 44K baht per year for Thai insurance(fully comp with a hull value of 2.3 Mill) and yearly license costs of around 700Baht.
Hope that helps.

Agree on the Thai flagged bit,in Jomtien the local Customs office would only allow foreign flagged boats to stay for 2 months then had to leave Thai waters whereas Phuket was 6 months plus extensions,if you have a broker do the import its not too onerous and at least you do not have to leave Thai waters every so often, however you do need to pay duty and also on electronic parts such as radar/radios etc etc.Plus if you decide to cruise outside Thailand legally its 20K Baht for the leaving permit on a Thai flagged boat.

As of Dec 2015 a 38ft Beneteau cost a hair under 10K baht per month to berth in Ocean Marina(Jomtien) plus a yearly membership of 60K baht.So marina berths not cheap. On top was ancillaries such as cleaning etc. However only needed to call up day before and boat would be prepped ready to go for a sail.No idea on costs in Phuket but guess similar or more.
Lots of stories on thieving around Phuket area.
Living on the hook is fine but need to keep water/fuel/food topped up so need a good tender and supply line, unless get it delivered and you have a watermaker onboard etc etc.
Inside temps are ok if you have windscoops to ensure a flow through the boat.

Flew Bkk-Zrh-Bkk in Dec on these aircraft in Business class.Seats uncomfortable and not flat bed.A340;s take longer flight time than Boeing equipment as slower speed.Return leg the inflight entertainment system was completely failed and advised by crew during boarding. However no compensation or apologies offered.Cathay and Singapore both offer vouchers if this happens. All in all poor seating and service so so only.Luckily my company paying..........

Flew Zurich-Bangkok last month in business class. When we boarded were told that oops in flight entertainment system was down on the whole aircraft........11hrs.Other carriers such as Cathay/Singapore Airlines offer passengers vouchers etc etc.Thai nothing...............

I normally rent at least once a month from Swampy and it has been reasonably problem free(using UK Company)However last rental from Hertz, when returning car the young lady advised me that the 'tank not full'as I had topped up the tank at the service area around 30 kms before Swampy argued the point and took photos of instrument cluster.Young lady got miffed and went to get camera/Long story/short but Supervisor overrode her and all ok.However facial experesion and body language made me think of Gorgon style stare.
So my question 'is this a new scam".I normally just glance at fuel guage to ensure it on F but do not look so closely. So assume its 1 stripe off full and I bring it back with same but have not identified same on accepting car am I setting myself up for a 'extra charge' so to speak.
As from now on will pay attention to fuel reading when picking up car.Fyi this was Hertz
Anyone else had similiar problems.....
Cheers

You can buy a electric one with built in freezer for 9600 baht which makes life a lot easier and saves on space in the freezer.Try Central or Robinsons.cheers

Sailed from Samui to Pattaya last month, and on both nights sailed through line after line of squid fishing boats, never really dark and stars barely visible due all the background light.During the day lots of dragnet trawlers and line fishing boats,so am not surprised not much left in the Gulf.cheersit's enough to make one turn vegetarian ...soon we may all end up eating our own words, just as most of all our fearless leaders have done

Mae Hong Son Loop Recommendations
in Chiang Mai
Posted · Edited by trawler
Where to start...Overnight in Pai and do the walking street. There is a great temple up a hill to watch the sunset(Mae Hi.)Take a look at the Bamboo bridge.Blue Ox has great food and there is a Ban Mi hole in the wall shop on walking street thats good.Get up early and go up to Wiang Tai village and the look out point above the village and watch the sunrise.
Pang Mapha and stop at the noodle shopJabo Noodles(Ban Jabo.)
If you like some Yunnan food then detour to Ban Rak Thai and eat at Lee restaurant and enjoy the view over the lake.
Mae Hong Son is stunning, lake in the center of town is empty at the mo due work.lovely Wat next to lake,(Burmese style)Again get up early and drive up to Wat Phrathat Doi Kongmu and grab a coffee and watch the sunrise over the mountains with Mae Hong Son below you in the morning mists.
Try Kao Soi for breakfast at Khaw Soi Panoon(she has been making it for 40 years)
We stayed at B2 in Pai and Mae Hong Son,around 7-800 baht per night.Worked for us.
Mae Sarieng is lovely as well but cannot comment as forgotton where we went/stayed.Hope this helps.ciao
