My wife got turned away today in Vientiane because the remaining blank pages in her passport didn't specifically say "visa" (even though Laos did just that). Not a big deal.. just went and had some added from the U.S. Embassy for free. But we have to stay an extra day now, and only because of a pretty basic technicality.
The services section at the U.S. embassy is open from 1-4.

Thanks everyone. Guess there was a stroke of luck in taking our Mae Sai trip on the 90th day. I'll just pretend we knew what we were doing the whole time.

My wife and I are here volunteering with a foundation for a year. We applied for and got a 12 month single entry* visa and arrived in September, but (without thinking it through) hopped over the Burmese border to explore for an hour in Mae Sai. Upon return, we were given the usual 30 day stamp with an "admitted until" date — which we then realized might have invalidated our original visa.
Can anyone tell me if our original visa might still be valid? Or did we screw ourselves by crossing the border?
*I also realize now that we may have misunderstood from the start, and that there might not be such a thing as a 12 month single entry (they didn't give us an "admitted until" date when we arrived, so I never thought about it). We just happened to go to Mae Sai on our 90th day, so this might all be a blessing in disguise.
Thanks for the help..

Nearly any other country on earth would shoot anarchists. PAD should go to Burma, Laos, Cambodia, China or Vietnam and try those tactics. Seizing government property and blocking roads would bring a very violent response from police and soldiers if they were needed.
cause every country should try and emulate burma's approach to human rights.

I could be wrong.. but it seems like The Nation has a more Thai reporting staff, hence the quicker and sometimes better reporting, coupled with worse English and stories that are more difficult to understand as an expat. The Post seems to lack The Nation's reporting capability for local news, but writes in a way that's easier to understand for outsiders.. both in grammar and concept.
Glad to have both.

Burma's ABC Stout would work just fine.
Unless drinking it supports the junta. What a moral dilemma...
