  1. Well, I took it in to one of the recommended institutions above (name withheld to save face all around). No problem, he said, we fix these things all the time. Great, I thought, I've lucked out here. I'll be able to mow my 6 foot high jungle grass again. A few days later I called and he said 'waiting for parts, very hard to get'. OK. More days go by and I call again. He said I really ought to come and pick it up as it was taking up a lot of space in his shop. OK, I thought, just remember what country you're living in. I go and pick it up. When I got there he didn't know what I was talking about. I called the mia noi and they all went jabber jabber for 30 minutes disappearing to who knows where with my phone. An eternity passed and at length they wheeled the mighty machine out of the shed and we stood around inspecting it. One of the wheels was bent 45 degrees. The petrol tank was empty. The choke lever housing, cable and spring were gone. More phone calls, 10 minutes jabber. "Lost them mate. Here I'll help you get it on your truck. You should try Home Pro where you bought it". OK, I thought, control yourself. Calm down ...

  2. Would if I could sensei. Ditched Microsoft for Linux a few months ago, run from a 5 baht incorruptible Live CD, no hard disk, no Windows, no Excel, no visits to the repair shop, no antivirus, no driver downloads etc. You get a mild sensention of being freed from bondage. smile.png Not perfect but not bad for the money.

  3. Looking for a Google spreadsheet wizard. I need a datafeed from GoogleFinance with daily price updates using a pivot table to present %Change calculations.

Then, don't know if this can be done, create Sparklines for tickers and click to zoom to about 7x4". Click to close. This would be a very neat trick. Copious beers or other suitable reward of your choice for solution. Cha Am/Hua Hin. Thanks.

  4. Village couple of miles down the road where all street dogs are fed daily by a local philanthropist, spends 16,500 baht/mo on them. A lot of happy well fed dogs in small gangs patrolling their own bit of territory up and down the main drag. Have his permission to make the transfer with donation for upkeep. All very humane. This one's a pup killer so it's pretty lucky considering. Lery. Sorry, leery. I hate bad spelling too.

  5. Need a trap to get rid of a lery adult stray made its home around the house, it killed two pups two days in a row last week, bosses my dogs around, aggressive, riddled with bugs, has to go

anyone know where to get a trap around Hua Hin/Cha-Am?,,,

alternatively a dog catcher would do fine if any kind fellow knows of such.

    Cheers

  6. At first I felt sorry for the Mr mak mak but even a blind man would notice the difference. Smell and touch still being available to the blind. It must be a very severe handicap. Poor fella. It is a wonder he can type.

Or...........maybe his preferences and personal opinions are just different than yours. People are allowed to have preferences. Shocker, I know. ;)

Miss Universe contest. There accepted standards of beauty that have to do with symmetry, shape and other universally accepted criteria.

There are women in any culture who at 16 years of age know they will never have to work a day in their lives.

They know that men of all ages will fall all over themselves just to gain a glance or touch or smile.

If one is a world traveler he has figured this out.

Thailand is what it is and has always been what it is because of its women.

If aliens with six legs and arms came down from outer-space they would take back with them, one Chicago style pizza and 20 Thai women. The only really great things that earth really has to offer.

speaking of which, anyone tried this pizza style, home made, always a challenge.

grille/broil pizza inc toppings in pre-heated iron skillet first few minutes, then, set skillet on gas hob to char bottom. worth a try, who knows .. .

  7. Cast iron cookware has been on occasion known to explode -- is there an early-adapter discount?

    explode? Well....we produce our pans 100% explosive-free...guaranteed without dynamite...B)

link to cast iron Dutch oven, lid serves as skillet. Very nice piece of ironware.

Can this or similar be found in Thailand?

Diameter ~10 inches, height including the lid ~8 inches.

Preferably black cast iron, no enamel.

Raro ... are you making Dutch ovens or skillets only?

please post your contact details ...

    Cheers

  8. Problem solved! as my bodyguard (gf) was getting out of the car the other day the offending iPhone slipped out of her dainty hand & dropped neatly through a sewer grid submerging itself under three feet of liquid poo. I peered down into the depths & bid it sayonara. Good excuse to waste another 20,000 baht on another daft tech toy. Dell Streak got my limited span attention with its enormously huge 5" screen. Oh, the excitement of it all. http://www.engadget....-streak-review/

  9. The model number is HITZ 3201.Yes the names/contact font size is good,i bought this in Tesco lotus Pattaya,You should be able to get in most phone shops, some big stores have Imobile shops.

One thing to watch is if you buy one,ask the staff to put the sim/sims in for you/this model is a 2 sim model which is great, you can use it with one only or 2 sims, but the phone had a sim lock on the sim 2 connection and locked my 12 call sim.so i had to call 12call for my PUK code, but all is well now,for the money its just fine,Even has TV but that sucks. There may also be similar i mobiles with big display around the same price or even cheaper.

Thanks a lot- I am about to run to the next job to try it out

    :D Have a wonderful day

    Dell Streak. 5 inch screen.

  10. Richard-BKK, here's where I downloaded from http://www.ubuntu.com/

I explained things badly, the machine will boot from the XP disk in the CD tray but not the Ubuntu disk. BIOS is set to fire up from CD first.

lost_in_space & dave_boo, last effort was at 8x, no go.

Is there someone in HH who would set things up for consideration of course.

Please PM if so I'd like to get Ubuntu running in the next few days if poss,,,

  11. downloaded 10.04 OK, twice to be sure the size was right, 716,230 Kb on both. Burned ISO to 3 Princo disks.

Burn process appeared normal on all 3 disks.

CD#1 shows empty, CD#2 shows all files, CD#3 shows full in Properties but shows no files in Explore. Bad DVD writer? bad disks?

On reboot from #2 CD, (boot from CD is set as first choice in BIOS) ,, machine does not recognize CD & boots straight through to XP.

If I reboot with an XP OS disk in the CD writer I get the prompt to press any key to boot from CD.

    Any ideas?

  12. The "Probably the best security list in the world" thread

    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread....ghlight=cloning

    take a look at the

    DEEP FREEZE

    SHADOW DEFENDER

    RENTURNIL

    SHADOW USER

group of softwares. these let you run in virtual/shadow mode. as you browse nothing is written to the real drive, the changes only take place on the shadow/virtual drive which evapourate on reboot & your real disk remains in its original virginal state.

  13. Where did you find it and how much was it if you don't mind me asking?

Professor, the original is still in the hands of a fellow who runs multiple computers & I may be able to get a copy of that, maybe next week. I'll keep you posted.

a bar owner proudly offered a selection of 'superior cracked copies' for 400 baht premium over Panthip rubbish which I know were acquired at Panthip ... or maybe a street market.

  14. You may have difficulties here. I've been on the lookout for a while now and can't find XP anywhere. It's all Vista and Windows 7. Even the MS people here in BKK told me to 'Try Panthip'

Whether or not that was a euphemism for 'get a good pirate copy' or that I may well find a genuine copy there in the myriad computer shops I couldn't tell you.

I'm planning to pop in to Panthip this weekend to have a look but I despise the place so if I find one I'll post here.

found a gen copy yesterday w/SP3. may or may not be able to acquire a copy, I'll know next week. not averse to pirate software, only the malwares.

  15. Since living in Thailand I've never owned a genuine copy of Windows & I imagine most buying computers here also get a cracked version & turn a blind eye.

Had some virus trouble over the weekend so talked to the local tekkie who didn't do much except a System Restore rollback which took him 4 hours to get to actively fiddling. Watched what he did which was mostly running his own virus scanner a few times to little effect. The rollback is a temp fix & being fairly stable again tried reloading the anti-virus program I attempted to load before having to go to him, & same thing happened again, endless shut-down-start-up cycle which I fixed myself from Safe Mode simply deleted the offending program. What I tried reloading was a genuine scanner downloaded from the software co but by that point the disk was too messed up. Format is the only real fix in this case I believe, & a clean copy of Windows.

After the rollback he spent 2 hours trying to update SP3. MSFT said NO, invalid cracked key whereupon he tried a few other cracked keys, none any good. AFAIK installing SP3 cannot be done without the genuine article (which includes Windows Genuine Advantage I think) otherwise why wouldn't he have the thing already on the shop disk? Maybe it can only be installed at download stage to an individual machine with the correct key, I don't know. Further, I discovered the anti-virus program installed for the last few months was also running on a cracked key which file happens to be a known virus, installed by another shop 6 months ago without my knowledge.

I wonder how many people have problems because of pirate programs. Who knows what's on a cracked OS disk or any other cracked app. Nothing good I imagine. I've asked tekkies to get genuine copies for me before but only got sheepish smiles. At this point the system appears to be clean after running several malware-scanners which initially found 100+ malwares & 10 trojan viruses, all supposedly removed but who knows. Viruses can be highly compromising depending what one is doing & my thoughts now are it may be best to install paid for products with a much greater chance of being in a virginal state & avoid serious future disruptions.

Anyone here using genuine Windows software bought in Thailand? Please let me know where from & how much? Cheers.

PS why couldn't XP w/SP3 be imaged w/Ghost or similar. Wouldn't that work?
