  1. Thanks once again for the helpful tips! Sea View is the place I was looking at so...great. I'll ask about construction. Do you have a second choice? Sounds like I should take the car and you are quite right about not needing an entire tank of gas on the island for a weekend. As to the petrol switch, that works fine but not the fuel pump, so I'm stuck with propane. That is "better" for the air anyway. Mostly this weekend trip is research for a later trip. My parents are visiting in late October and want to spend "a few quiet days on a beautiful beach". They also want to meet some elephants. They are neither frail nor spry. Any other advise would be much appreciated.

  2. Tratosphere books is a great little book shop in Trat. If the clever name isn't enough to warrant the drive, there is also a great restaurant at the end of the same alley. (Soi Rimklong) I just picked up Skinny Legs and All for around 180TB.

  3. Thanks for the tips. I think I'd like leave my car on the Trat side. I saw a small lot where the ferries leave. Would it be ok to leave it there for a few days. Sounds like one less source of polution would be a good thing. Can you recomend any places to stay which are eco-friendly? I've read a bit about the island but would love any advise or recomendations. Thanks again.

  4. Hello,

I am planning a trip to Koh Chang this weekend and have a few questions. Should I bring my car over for transport? (I'd rather use songtiaws if they run regularly) It is an old Nissan Sunny running on propane. Are there any LPG stations on the island? The car is tough but it sounds like the roads are bad, especially with all the rain. Is the ferry ride very choppy? My friends tell me that if it rains anymore this week, the ferry ride would be dangerous and the trip would be a bad idea. I have enjoyed reading posts about the island; it sounds like a truly amazing place.

    Thanks

  5. Hello all!

When Thai Air cancelled their flights to New York I opted for a "refund" and now have no ticket home. I have a non-b with an extension through March of '09 and believe I need a re-entry permit for an upcoming trip to Singapore. 2 questions:

Can I get the re-entry permit easily on my way out at the airport or do I need to do that in advance at an immigration office? I can't really risk a delay at the airport as I will be traveling with 30 teenagers. :o

Will I be allowed back into Thailand without a plane ticket out? Can I tell them I will be traveling overland through Cambodia when I leave? (This is my plan.) What should I do?

    Thanks

  6. Hello,

We are two teachers from the U.S.A. living in eastern Thailand seeking to relocate to Chiang Mai. We are looking for work from November through March or possibly later.

We speak minimal Thai but are committed to learning. We are both certified teachers with master’s degrees in education and years of teaching experience ranging from elementary school to college. We may also be interested in non-teaching jobs as well.

    Thank You.

  8. Thanks all for your help! If I tried to find out at the border by trying with my non-B and they said no, would I then be able to ask for a tourist visa instead?

The immigration officer told me that if I left the country after the extension expired, I could reenter on the Non-B. This implies they are not linked but I didn't ask what would happen if I cancled my work permit before the extension expired. I could see why immigration might invalidate both at the same time as my employment was a preprequite to obtain both of them in the first place. Any ideas?

  9. Hello,

I came in on a one-year multiple-entry non-immigrant B visa in June. I recently got an extension visa which lasts until the end of my contract on 30 March. I did this because I was told that instead of making a border run every three months, I could simply check in with immigration. When I explained that I would want to stay in Thailand past March, the immigration officer said I could make a border run in March and reenter using my one-year multiple entry non-B as it is would be valid until June. He said at this point I would get a 30-day stamp on the non-B.

Doesn't the extension cancel out the first visa or are they both valid at the same time?

Now am seriously considering leaving my teaching position. My job may be willing to hold off on canceling my work permit giving me some time to travel and/or look for other work.

If they cancel my work permit immediately my understanding is that I will have seven days to leave the country. Could I use the one-year multiple-entry non-B to reenter? Or, would both visas have been invalidated at the point of canceling my work permit?

If I cannot reenter using the one-year visa, will I be able to get a tourist visa? If so, should I get one in a consulate abroad or can I get one when I arrive at the airport in Bangkok? Can you get a tourist visa if you have an exit ticket by bus or must it be by plane?

I have found your website to be very helpful and tried my best to answer these questions by reading previous posts. Thank you so much for your help!

If you are an an 'Extension of Permission to Stay' from immgration and you leave Thailand without a re-entry permit, that extension is ended.

If you leave your job, you must leave Thailand that day or you can apply for a seven day extension at immigration

If you re-enter thailand on a date before the 'Enter Before' date marked on your multiple non B visa, then you will automatically get a 90 day stamp.

Tourist visas can only be obtained abroad.

Citizens of certain countiries can receive a 30 day visa exempt stamp on arrival to Thailand but this is limited to a maximum total stay of 90 days (>3 entries) in any 6 months.

Thank you so much for your response. Are you saying that if I leave my job and leave the country that day, I can still reenter on my multiple non-b even though my extention to stay would have ended with my job?
