  1. I just don't understand what kind of gated community it is. There is a quardian, right? He was on duty and saw the poor man's car driven by a Thai boy plus another Thai inside. And what? He couldn't stop the car and ask why there were taking it and where the owner was? What is actually the guardian's responsibility? For what he is there, at the gate, - to watch and that's all? It seems nobody cares of anything in this country. All they want is just farangs' money. As one Thai man said to me:"Oooh, Thai people need money..." As if nobody else does, only them...

You're right - in a perfect world the guard would have at least attempted to foil the guy's getaway. However, I've rarely seen a security guard care about who's coming in and out. Occasionally, one will ask questions, but usually they just wave you on through.

  2. Extraordinary. They obviously do not want foriegners here for any length of time, only long enough to drop their cash and piss off back home. It begs the question as to whether they really deserve to have us come visit their extraordinary country at all.

As others have said already, just apply for a tourist visa if you're a tourist OR secure the proper non-imm visa before coming here. I never did understand people who move here "indefinitely" on an entry-stamp and then hope for the best, with regard to finding a job and getting a long-term visa. Shouldn't people take care of the proper visa first and THEN move here long-term? There are still many options available for people who wish to work here or retire here. This new law is an inconvenience for some, but hardly indicates that Thailand doesn't "deserve" to host foreign visitors. Now, the debacle at the airport is a different story... ;-)

  3. Sorry, if this is a repeat thread - I searched and searched, but could only find threads about people importing their pets.

Does anyone know how I might take my dog (a very small, Poodle-mix) to Bangkok? We are flying back to the US for the holidays. I've heard that Air Asia doesn't allow pets on their flights, even as extra baggage. Has anyone ever flown to Bangkok with a pet via another airline, and if so, how was it?

    Thanks!

  4. Oh - so it is possible to go on a Sunday as well? I don't know why, but I just assumed that Sunday would be totally out of the question. In that case, then perhaps I will plan for November 2. That's not a holiday for Thailand or Burma, right?

Thanks for all of the information, everyone! I really appreciate your responses!

    Cheers.

  5. Hi All,

Sorry, I'm a newbie! I must do my first visa run next week and I plan to go to Mae Sai. Can you go on Saturdays or must you go on weekdays only? Also, has anyone gone there recently (within the last month) and had any unusual experience or problem? I just want to make sure that I go prepared and that I have a fair understanding of what to expect. One more thing - Myanmar immigration is still accepting 500 Baht notes these days, right? I can pay that instead of USD?

    Thanks for your help!

  6. Hi,

According to the lawfirm Dej-Udom & Associates (who advertise on this site): "[Effective this month the Employment Department no longer requires companies to report the last official working day of expatriate employees and the expatriate employee is not required to return his/her work permit booklet to the Employment Department. The booklet can simply be keep by the expatriate for his/her records. However, the Immigration Department still requires cancellation of the employee's non-immigrant work visa and the visas for any dependant family members."
