  1. I hope someone can help with this because I'm getting conflicting answers from the local shop. I ordered a Garmin Nuvio 40. Before I left the shop, I opened it up and wanted them to show me directions from Rayong to Bangkok in English.

Staff comments-No problem. Then, this version doesn't support English. Next, it supports Eng but the maps only in Thai script. Finally, can you come back tomorrow.

After I told them I didn't want it, they asked if I could return tomorrow since they can't get support today to answer my questions.

So, does the map show in English not Thai script. Should I receive a cd with this? Should I pay more than 3,990 baht to get an English version?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Here is my summary:

I went to the Rayong Land Transportation office with copies of Passport, Work Permit, and Medical Certificate. I brought my USA license (couldnt locate my international). They could not understand the Class system on the license so I had to go to the shop and print out from my home state that the license is valid for a car.

After all the papers were checked, I took 3 tests (eye color test, reflex test with green and red, and depth perception test). I failed the depth perception test the first 3 or 4 times before I realized I what they wanted me to do. Even then, this is a very difficult test.

Next, I waited in line for a photo. I went ahead and paid for a car and motorbike license at the same time.

The whole process cost around 450 baht and took around 2 hours. This would have been a lot shorter if I went earlier instead of 10am and if I brought the printout of my license details.

Hi Paterno, I have to go on monday there. The address is not so clear to me. Is Sukhumvit soi 171 or what? May you be so kind to explain where is it and maybe post a link to a map to show it off?

    Many many thanks

    Max

Ok, let me try to help. If you are coming from Rayong city, you will pass PMY, then pass St. Josephs school on left, after that Sukhmvt bends around to the right. You will get to a big intersection with stop light. Uturn and it will be 30-50 meters on left. If you get to Golden Rayong Sport Club, you passed it. The entrance looks like a MooBan. :)

  4. Thanks!

    Good List

    L Olivier (French)

    Cafe Ritz

    Oasis (Good pizza)

    DeLizza (Pizza and Sandwiches)

    Maggs (English Food)

    Surf Kitchen (Good Thai)

Rompho Market (Variety, Good walking area)

Bali Taste (Indonesian and opposite an Italian place)

    Shenanigans (Big...worth a look)

    Fantasy Bar (Jomtien Complex)

Pig and Whistle (Quality and value)

  5. Even though I have been to Pattaya on multiple weekend excursions, I am unfamiliar with Jomtien. With all this talk of Sunrise Tacos, I am thinking of making Jomtien my next stop. Can someone provide a couple can't miss spots for western food or nightlife?

I know this is vague with each individual having their own taste and opinion. However, I can do a more detailed search once I see a list of names.

    Thanks!

  6. My mate just got out of surgery for appendicitis. Before I left him, I asked him about the bill. He showed me a detailed bill showing the following. Does it look reasonable?

    Bangkok Hospital Rayong 1 Night

    Surgery ~63,000 Baht

    Room and Medicine ~17,000 Baht

    Daily Care~14,000 Bhat

    Total ~94,000 Baht

This jumps to around 115,000 if he stays 2 nights and 130,000 for 3 nights.

I think there could be some extra padding but we are trying to find the best way to negotiate.

    Cheers!

  7. Suggestion:

Cafe des Amis - off Thappaya Road

Followed by Purple Space Monkey - Soi Chaiyapreuk - end of Jomtien Beach (live music every night)

Good night out and you can't get into trouble.

Wow! Thanks so much. Ive never been to either one so Ill check it out.

  8. I plan on taking my Thai girlfriend out for my birthday in Pattaya next Tuesday. I know..Why in the hell are you bringing your girlfriend to Pattaya? Well, it was her idea and I have always been on solo trips or with the boys so I thought this might be a little different and fun. Since I cant take her to my stops in SB, Soi6, or Walking, I was hoping to get some suggestions on places to go. Id like to go to a nice restaurant and then some place for drinks with good music.

    What do you think?

    Thanks in advance!

  9. I have received some Happy SMS in Thai the last couple days but I thought it was the usual promotion messages. Now, I get a Network out of order message on my phone. I checked my account and I have credit. Does anyone else get this message? Does anyone have any answers?

    Thanks in advance!
