  1. This is 2010, with all the sophisticated surveillance gear, long-range listening devices, wire taps and for-sale-to-the-highest-bidder Red Shirt "double agents" willing to sell their souls for a few baht...PAY SOMEBODY, PAY 100 RED SHIRT SOMEBODIES TO RECORD HIS ORDERS AND THREATS AGAINST OUR GREAT NATION...THEN TRIPLE THE PAY OF HIS HENCHMEN BODY GUARDS AND ARREST KHATTIYA IN HIS SLEEP!

Why is there no one in the WORLD that can gather evidence against this insane, Red Faced LOUD MOUTH TERRORIST?

He's been an insane bully for the last 20 years, a bona fide, self professed "blood on his hands" war criminal...

    I just don't get it?

THIS SUCKER PUNCHING COWARD with his brave tactics of grenades and machine guns fired in the dark from high-speed motorbikes, has admitted his involvement! He tells us in advance...

ARREST THIS FOOL, MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HIM TO THE PEOPLE OF THAILAND...SCREAM IN HIS FACE ON WORLD WIDE TELEVISION THAT WE WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS CASUAL, IRRESPONSIBLE AND DEADLY BEHAVIOR IN OUR COUNTRY!

How clever do you need to be to capture this self-promoting bloated braggart? You could gather enough evidence in a week to lock him up for the rest of his filthy life...JUST DO IT!

  2. yeah every Thai Port match I went to last season were standing room only. I would like to purchase season tickets if anyone knows were to get them...many thanks, LIVE footie is the best

  3. I am trying to get a 20' container of house hold goods and personal effects from just southwest of Seattle through Thai customs in BNK and delivered to house in Phayao, Thailand and was wondering how to go about it as far as getting things through customs and such. I am married to a Thai national and will be starting a university teaching job in June. If anyone has had experience with this, I would greatly appreciate any insight into this. Thanks. RWT

Yes, I have experience with this exact situation. First of all use Rainier Shipping Company based the Seattle area. Here is their contact information.

I checked prices and reputation up and down the west coast of the US and found Doug to be the most competent and his price was fair.

Regarding Thai customs. Do NOT hire a Thai clearing company to clear your container through Thai customs. Here is what I did.

When the the container is getting ready to be off-loaded by the ships normal offloader in Thailand the ships expediter will call you at your Thailand phone number. They will tell you that your stuff has arrived and you should come down to clear it after such and such date.

At that point get your Thai wife to get directions to the Thai Customs clearing offices near the docks in Bangkok. Go down there with here and all your paperwork from the shipping company. As you walk up to the building a woman or a man will usually approach you and ask if you need help clearing your shipment with Thai customs. Here is where it gets tricky. If you seem to think that particular person is "ok" them go on in to the office with them and have your wife ask the officer behind the glass if the guy or girl that is helping you is "ok" or not. They will say yes or maybe say get another person to help you. It's your choice. Most of the customs guys will be honest and tell you if an urchin has attached themselves to you. They know them all.

Once you have established that you can trust the guy you are with then he will walk you and your wife through the maze of offices and paperwork required. As a Farang, it's best to keep a low profile and let your wife handle most if not all of the negotiations. The expediter will take you to several different locations until finally you arrive at the dock or warehouse where your container is. At this point you can have your wife instruct the expediter to bargain whether of not the container is "opened" or not. If they open it they will find extras to charge you for and generally will cost you more than you already paid at the first stop. So, have your wife pay a suggested amount to the customs agent sitting behind a desk upstairs at the warehouse to NOT open the container. That amount can vary depending on what is on your itemized list and how much money the customs guy need that month. I suggest that the amount should not exceed 3000 baht for a full container to "not" be opened.

Once he signs the paper you are almost home free. Now your expediter will negotiate for delivery of your container to your address in Thailand. He will already have the contacts for this. Usually a family member or friend that has a container hauling truck. That fee for delivery may be anywhere from 4000 to 8000 baht depending on where it must go.

This is the cheapest way to get your stuff. If you have the bucks and don't want to hassle it just ask oug at Rainier to arrange delivery with their Thailand based sister company. It will cost you dearly though.

Hey mate, do you have a name or mobile number of the guy you used for clearing shipment? The guy you trusted?

I have two shipments from USA: one personal (stereo, tools, cat food) and one business (3 indoor tanning machines plus lamps, parts and suntan lotions). I will have the Thai Ministry of Public Health and HS code paperwork prior to import (tons of red tape, but getting close).

Any idea what the HS code for is for tanning machines? Thai customs sent a letter saying they did not have enough information to give me a HS code (is the max. duty 30%?), TISI sent letter saying no permit was needed for electric, only Thai FDA docs. for import needed.

Any advice for these shipments? I want to put everything in one container? Any concern or problem combining the two shipments in one container?

It is a Thai company is my gf's name for the business shipment. The personal shipment can be under my name, as I have an A-O retirement visa.

I am a bit concerned about the import taxes on personal belongings, the stereo (USD$600) is brand new, should I take it out of the original box? -- do they check things that closely for retirement visa duty free shipments?

Any help with local contacts would be appreciated. I have met with SNP Logistics Co. -- good company? Should I use a professional company for the tanning beds?

Thanks a million for your help.

  4. in some touristic places, russians seem to have taken over the business of thai (russian hotels, restaurants AND hookers, etc...)

how do they manage to stay here ?

if those people are on EDvisa...let's kick them all out, if that would make Thai Gov happy

and leave the (more) 'honest' expat farang from western countries alone...

but thailand have a lot of low education (illegal) refugies from myanmar, cambodia, china...

these are the one's stealing low level jobs from thais

Thai Gov should not confuse farangs with all the rest of the foreigners

Here, here my friend, I take exception to your ED Visa comment. I just retired at 50 in Thailand (retired in California at 42, after selling my advertising agency) with a A-O Retirement visa.

Without the Ed Visa and 12 months of Thai language study, I would not be as comfortable or prepared for a life in this exotic, kind, tropical paradise.

The Ed Visa is in fact used by many as a legitimate tool for "education".

The USA has the strictest visa and work permit rules in the world and getting tougher by the day as well. Your options as an expat wanting to work and live in Thailand are quite good compared to the chances for most Thai's abroad. I bet they view this phenomenon has a bit unfair.

Just an observance, most of my expat friends with work permits are MD level executives (and technical experts) hired by Thai and multi-national companies for one reason: PRODUCTION. They insure the work gets done by western business standards - no small feat with the sabai sabai attitude that permeates the work place (God bless them).

...These expats earn their place in this country by creating products and services suitable for export and sale, while the profits are shared by Thailand and it's good people.

    ...back to the books!

  5. Hello,

Just to clarify, I received a "mutiple entry" retirement "O-A" visa in the USA (USD $175 fee). I arrived BKK on 8 December.

I thought multiple entry would allow me to travel freely (without notifying the Thai Immigration) in and out of Thailand?

Can I (after 1st report/application at immigration office) report my 90 day address by mail or Sathorn area Amphur office?

Previously I was on an Ed Visa for 12 months, so I already have a Bangkok Bank account -- I deposited B900K on 20 November 2009.

    Many thanks.

  6. ...So, about the crackdown! I am afraid those immigration officers know very little about linguistics and should not be ruling so harshly on a situation which is contrived at best. And, anyway, what about the "Mai Pen Lai" attitude? Some day it is on; some day it is off? :)

Hey mate, no linguist to be sure, but I had a Ed Visa from Pro Language at Times Square and took it seriously enough. I went to class, did the homework, practiced at every chance and feel like I can carry on conversations in areas of daily life quite nicely.

I am 50, not young, but if you apply yourself, you can learn to speak Thai. I have a retirement Visa now, but have continue to study. The trick is learning to speak AND read/write for the testing.

The 90 day extensions by design have always claimed to have a testing element, but was never enforced in my case. The challenge came when I wanted to apply for Year 2 - this test is conducted at The Ministry of Ed by their staff and includes a verbal AND written test.

I made a conscience decision not to overload my mind with the reading and focus on speaking. But I believe now this was a mistake, as any hope for an Ed Visa beyond the first year is tied to the full course of study.

Well best of luck, the Ed Visa is still a breeze compared to other visas I've had...you need to do the work, and it WILL pay dividends. It is so cool to be able to chat-up friends in their language, they appreciate it as well...well worth the effort.

  7. I bought Rosetta Stone Thai...paid a lot for it and used it twice. Seemed to be the best around based on reviews and trails, though.

I ended up getting a 1 year Ed Visa and studied at Pro Language at Asoke BTS. You need to go to class and do the homework, but really learned a lot...solid conversational level stuff - no reading and writing, but I can chat up the ladies pretty well, hahaha

Smart to speak the language if your moving here, Thais are super nice about helping you with words and phrases. All have been impressed and complimentary about at least "trying to speak Thai".

well worth the effort, choke dii kp.

  8. PastaPronto, thanks for telling all us ThaiVisa members about your FANTASTIC new delivery Italian food in Bangkok. That's why I joined this website, to get valuable and current information.

Next time be sure to include your website address! Don't rely on other members to find it and post it for you, ok.

Great new service for Bangkok, thanks again for taking the time to post information, how else will we find out something new without business owners breaking the news????

Pasta Pronto, maybe post your menu too next time, it would be very helpful.

    Great website Thai Visa!

Re-opened & welcome to Pastapronto as a sponsor of the Bangkok forum on Thai Visa.

  9. Hi Folks..before meeting the wife I dated some various Thai women from different walks of life..Does the following STORY sound FAMILIAR ?? We will call her "Boom" :D for arguments sake.

You (farang) meet (educated) Thai lady named Boom on the internet.. you and her chat, email , phone back and forth between your home country and LOS for several months..a WEEK before you are going to LOS, only partially to meet her, :) you get a phone call from Boom... " I have to tell you something " ..(yes, you reply??..) " I am sorry..I am browner (more brown / darker/ more natural melamine in my skin) than in the pictures that I sent you... are you angry ??" ( you reply to her...no..that's okay, no problem , don't worry, I like tanned ladies..) Boom replies.. " I will use skin whitener " to which you reply, my bpen rai khrap.. I admit freely that I like dark color skin, but I am not sure why, beyond perhaps beauty is in the eye of the beholder..

The point is, WHY do many young Caucasion women in farang lands go to tanning booths, tan on the beach, in order to get more brown ?? Conversely, WHY do many young Asian women (in this case Thai women) use whitener soap, stay out of the sun, in order to be "whiter" ?? Neither likes the way they naturally are..

I have my ideas on why this is, but I was looking for some ideas from some of you, who very likely can shed better light on this skin color conundrum than I can..

  10. Hey Kakov,

Well, first off, you're definitely not the first one whom I've 'heard' off having an idea in planting BKK it's first tanning studio.

However, sadly..like what flightcrew suggested. It might not be as popular among the locals as most local Thais I personally relate to and know prefer white-looking skin. (I believe the amount of whitening commercials and products lying all around speaks for themselves).

But if this idea persists and you'd like to work it out. You might wanna try going along the lines of planting this studio for the cause of foreigners/expats. Tanning equipments are definitely not cheap to start off with, the amount of electricity they intake to function are also pretty substantial...which of course gives you a good reason to charge slightly higher.

So putting foreigners/expats into mind as customers + high costs of maintainence + import of lotions + marketing. It could bring like 1 x tanning session to about 800 baht. Then you can come up with packages, since tanning studios usually wouldn't allow their customers to tan more than once in 2 days.

Just my 2 cents worth. Oh... BTW you're NOT the first I've discussed about the above..lol..

The first BIG question is will the Thai goverment even allow tan beds into this country? The UV rays are very harmful and have been know to cause melanoma cancer in users, given this fact I doubt the Thai government would even consider it.

Given the Thais fondeness for mindless paperwork and layers of approvals, I would start this process today and hope for yes or no answer in two years!

  11. the red shirts AND the yellow shirts are destroying our country. Justice for all, means punishment for all...ALL the red/yellow criminals need to be arrested and jailed for their crimes against Thailand.

Only then will our PM gain the respect of the silent majority of good Thai citizens.

seems it goes the other way.....that won't please PAD and won't please the silent majority....

hmmm...maybe amnesty for all criminals is the path of least resistance. however, without consequences for criminal acts what stops the violence?

  13. ...with the Lad's unfortunate and dare I say enormous SQUARE BLOCK HEAD, he can have fake passports from Nairobi to Finnland and be stopped at any moment by authorities for ordering a coke at a 7-11...I doubt a name change to Frank Smith Jr. on a new passport will do the lad much good...we'll be seeing our native son in chains by noon tomorrow.
