Where we live we cannot buy kao soi or penang so we gave it a shot ourselves and I'm very happy with the results.

Brought 2kg of mangoes for 30 baht today.

Our spend per month is 45k.

It's been an eye opener making food at home. More cost effective than I realised and better results than I'm seeing at vendors.

We spend 2k a month on petrol for motor and bike.

I spend 39 baht a day on beer. 1 small Leo.

I enjoy life but I get enjoyment out of simple stuff that families do. Getting an hour in a park every other day at 5pm with the family is my highlight.

Khao soi can be found at S&P which are everywhere. just sayin.

During my working life I laminated hundreds of working instructions and as far as I know is the inside of the pocket covered with melting glue. You never can remove the pater anymore.

True. And yet here we have laminated docs like OP indicated including marriage cert birth cert etc. Never had problem from authorities here in thailand. 30 years.

Go to Germany or UK and it might be an issue? But these are Thai docs which would need translation as well. So I agree there may be glue issues or use issues in foreign lands.

  3. Another complicating factor is the pharma companies making vaccines batch them differently. So you can get vacc a batched with vacc d and e and later receive vacc b with the second dose of a.

Hope that makes sense. The first step is to go to WHO required / recommended vaccine schedule and you will see the PENTA VALENT  and others that spell it out. From this educated point you can track the vaccines as they are grouped by what ever pharma company makes the vaccines for that hospital.

Happened to me twice with separate accounts, firstly with Krung Thai and then with Kasikorn in 2009 - the amount involved was 20,000 THB on each occasion. This led to my decision not to have any cards with my present Bangkok Bank account. Each time I need cash I make a transfer to the wife's account and send her down to the ATM to obtain it for me.

    Yes.  Same here.

I keep all big cash in accounts with no cards attached. Then with online banking can move funds to my atm card attached accounts and then go withdrawl cash needed. Risk exposure never exceds 25,000 Baht for a week or 2

  5. Do not forget the forever grinding on concrete and steel everpresent. It seems like they take turns as it really is everyday within audible reach of my condo in downtown Bkk. I see the source often. Last week the guy was grinding the paint off a 200 meter  concrete wall.  And as I type this it is also here at the hospital!

  6. I have seen this issue many times in various iterations in LOS.

The condo buyers  bank issues a FEC for funds and Land Office rejects it.  Why?  Cause the brilliant K Bank manager did not know that the funds actually came into Thailand from HSBC Singapore to CLEAR at HSBC Thailand into Thai Baht and then sent to Kbank.  We had to go to HSBC Thailand office to get the FEC doc which was a letter.

The moral is Thai banks are so very screwed up and incompetent that you really need to do homework and deal with experts in property or good lawyer.  Or ask on Thai visa

  7. absolutely, lots of stuff.

    but all consensual.

this wave of political correctness, its great pith and moment, are enough to give us pause, surely.

and yet, I cannot help but point out that if age of consent and legality shifts so much with culture, one is surely left with ones own moral compass. pulling out the boy for fun and dances at inappropriate time can playful and shameful in different contexts. and forcing acts on another is not so grey at all. and did I ever have sex with someone who was attracted to my power and age and money? Yes, of course I did.

  8. Actually during the mourning period they stopped announcing stops.

The signs over doors are unintelligible.  And the ticker on the monitors was not working most time as well.

Signage outside the doors is not clearly lined up.

The result was numerous times I saw people jumping off the train to see the station b4 jumping back on.  Me self included. Zombies as well

Yes -- but since Thai are much more intuitive than people give them credit for, they might not say anything to you but they might say among themselves:

You know that two-four guy is a real a%^^*hole.

    True dat

  10. It is a mystery and has been an issue for all no matter how well they speak. Also the vast majority of Thai people in touristed areas or baan non both do not understand Thai unless it is spoken by native speaker.  Some just dont.

When in these situations I always start with smile and bit of chit chat warm up so they hear me voice.  This works wonders.

Technically you are liable to pay the rent remaining on the contract. If you walk away from your one month deposit you still may have to pay the remaing 11 months if she takes you to court.

If there is a leak under the sink advise her in writing and include pictures and a video. A record of this will help you in court.

Exactly.  You need to start paper trail of the story and document all.  Communicate via email or message so you have records.  Make call notes on phone call.

You can stop paying rent quietly and maybe get a month or more living there before moving out.

She won't try court if your contract is not the place u rented.  - why the <deleted> would you sign that for?  -

At same time find new place and do not tell her where it is.  Good luck.

  12. My wife cleans nothing and never cooks although she eats out and orders out or rather buys and brings home.

The maid / nanny does everything.  It is a lot of nanny hours with one day a week cleaning but kitchen living rooms get daily attention

I don't mind cooking ad I get food I like cooked perfectly.  And don't mind doing dishes - I do it better and faster than the nanny or wife who is hopeless.

She works and so do i.  We have businesses.

Having lived as bachelor for decades I can clean cook and shop for the house.  The wife cannot shop.  She never cooked or washed dishes when child her mom did it.  This entitlement is an issue in the relationship.  Also the nanny is 24 and cute.  Hahahaha.

There is a 50 baht airport fee, so the driver was right. In 13 years of living in Bangkok, the vast majority of taxi drivers I've used have been fine. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

    Same here.

And I drive here.  A lot.  And it is very confusing to navigate and locate places.  Not every time but enough that I cannot fault taxi without specifics.  There are bad taxis yes.  But more often they are fine.  And. Any are friendly and cheerful.

Lastly how would you feel driving I this city daily for 12 hours?

When you go for car insurance quotes (in the UK at any rate) a standard question is 'have you had any claims in the previous 5 years?'

If you lie, have an accident, claim and they find out (they will), your insurance is invalid. The main aim of insurers is to win business and wriggle out of paying up wherever possible.

Don't know about over here as we've only insured once. But insurance is due for renewal in a month or two so will have a look at Axa.

Thanks OP for a useful topic.

My experience over here is if you have a friend who is an agent and can sell you all the major policies it pays off because they do not ask that question or if they do it does not get answered.

One can effectively jump from company to company after claims. At least that is what my wife has done.

    So, now we know.

    .......

I think that as you must disclose previous claims to a different insurer you will end up paying around B32k anywhere. For what it's worth I'd stick with the same insurer if you can't get a much better deal elsewhere.

    ....

    Really?

Must you disclose previous claims to new insurer?

This is the 'point' to the OP , as I understand it.

And as I understand it, this is why people change insurance companies ... so they can avoid a rate increase.

And as I understand it, it works exactly that way.

    What am I missing?
