  1. Thanks, all.  Upon closer inspection, one of the zippers is still fully intact.  The 2nd zipper came off the track on one side.  I think I'll just purchase one of the luggage straps I've seen today and call it good until I get home.  In Kaohsiung they charged me 300 NT to wrap it.  The reason it burst to begin with is because my wife overpacked it.  I travel quite a bit for business (over 2M miles to date) and haven't had this problem.

FWIW, the subject bag is a 10+ year old 26" Samsonite hybrid (half soft sided/half hard sided) non-spinner.

1st time in Chiang Mai and am not a fan of the Le Meridien.

Quite surprised to see more non-Thais here than elsewhere in LOS.

  2. Just had a luggage zipper malfunction.  When I arrive in Chiang Mai later today, where can I purchase a new suitcase?  Staying at Le Meridien.  I plan to have it wrapped at KHH airport for the journey today.

Does CNX airport offer this wrapping service?  If so, I may be able to wait until I arrive back in Bangkok.

    Thanks in advance

You might as well attend the compulsory Gala Dinner as you will be paying for it at 5999 Baht per person (not including alcohol drinks).

I was concerned about this during the booking process.  I later confirmed (in writing) that the Gala Dinner is optional for Starwood Preferred Guests.

  4. Arriving in Chiang Mai for the first time ever on 31-Dec.   The wife and I are staying at the Le Meridien.  I'd like to go somewhere to celebrate (not at my hotel).  Is there a good place to have a few beers, watch some fireworks and maybe light off one of those Loy Krathong type lanterns?

  5. So how to best protect myself if wanting to rent a motorbike for a few days?  Never been to CM, but was pulled over a couple times in Phuket and my IDP got me let go without any payments.

  6. I will be in Bangkok 25-Nov and was thinking of going to Tawandang (Rama 3). Would they even be open? If so, would there be a special event ($)? Other than that, where would be a good place to take in the evening's festivities? I'm staying near Chidlom BTS.

    TIA,

    Dave

  7. How does one go about fishing here? Do they rent all the equipment you would need? I'll be in Cha-Am for a week in January and might like to spend a day here. I'm not too excited about carp (considered a "trash" fish here in the States), but would like to pull on something big. I'm an avid fisherman and own a tuna boat, but might need some guidance. Are guides available for hire or needed at all? I could certainly bring a reel or 2 from home, but rod isn't feasible. I've been to the park's website, but not much info related to my questions. I've even been to the park once before, but turned around and left after not being able to figure out the procedure.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. I would be willing to bet 1000 baht that most of the people that hate the Mach 3 and the Fusion also hate Starbucks.

I love my Mach 3, hate the Fusion razor and hate Starbucks. I do love the Fusion shave gel, however. Where can I collect the 1,000 baht?

I think ever face is different and some razors suit some faces better than others. I was really looking forward to the Fusion razor when it first came out, but equally disappointed when I used it.

  9. Only been to Phuket 4 times and was stopped once in Patong. Gave him my license and he read it "California". Gave it back to me and on my way. I thought he only reason I was stopped me was that I had my wife (Korean) on the back. We were both wearing helmets.

  10. Would this work for my needs as well?

I would just like to be able to use Google Maps on my unlocked Blackberry. I currently have a DTAC Happy sim, but it is for voice only. I want to be able to hop on the motorbike, drive all day exploring and not need to worry about finding my way back home. I had previously used my former employer's issued iphone and it worked great...I never had to pay the bill.

Could I pick up one of these sims upon arrival at BKK or at an outlet in Cha Am/Hua Hin?

Any way to just add data service to my DTAC Happy sim?

  11. I flew in yesterday from KL without incedent.

Need to get to Cha-Am Sunday. What are my options if my Air Asia flight doesn't go to BKK? There must be some bus service. Maybe a bus to Hua Hin then taxi toi Cha-Am?
