  1. One idea...put them into group of three, give each group a different scenario, ie: " I was playing football when I broke my leg." or "While I was cooking dinner the phone rang." Each group mimes/acts their scenario in front of the class and the other groups try to guess the sentence...the correct group gets one point...next!

Once you create the scenarios, you just sit back and watch...for 6 periods. Good luck.

  2. 'wasted on this bunch'???!!! VF certainly has a way with words! So far it's had 238 views and 12 replies but I'm sure it wasn't 'wasted' on the other 226 members who read it but didn't reply. Kandahar, I enjoy reading your posts and glad you don't write for a response.

Clearly this post has not been read by 247 different members. That is only a count of page views and refreshes. If you enjoy reading someone's post, then you should make that clear, as you have done here.

Just because ones motivation to write may be personal, doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a thoughtful response. This is after all a public forum for exchanging information and ideas. If we do not participate, then it ceases to function. We need more interaction not less.

We need to motivate and reward those who make an effort. How else will they know their efforts are appreciated. Reinforcement. :)

VF...Thanks for defining what "is needed" on this blog. It may be worth your reflection to broaden your narrow-mindedness and allow others to interact and participate as individuals...according to each individuals personal preferences, which may not be the same as yours. Shocking, I know. Motivate and reward your dog, allow others their individuality. Thanks for "motivating" me to reply to your "expectations". Peace.

  3. Coming down to CM for a couple of days from Chiang Rai...Wondering where is the best place to have a couple nice pairs of Kenneth Coles re-soled at in CM. Any suggestions? Feed back appreciated.

  4. I have been using CAT CDMA in Chiang Rai for over a year now and have no complaints...very reliable, never goes down, easy to use, no time limits. I have the Sierra Wireless PC card version and I get download speeds to a Thai server of around 1-1.5 Mbs, and to servers outside Thailand of 500-700Kbs...upload rates are terrible though, 8-10Kbs...yes, that bad, but if you aren't uploading much, it's quite good. I hear the newer USB modem is even faster, a friend is getting over 2.5Mbs to a Korean server, and it should be about the same to other non-Thai servers. 790B/845B w/tax...and the mobility is great...works virtually everywhere I go, except BKK...that's another issue of CAT/Hutch for another day. Hope this helps.

  5. Big C has a nice South African Shiraz, Mont Claire Bin 9 Reserve at 285B a bottle that is very drinkable.

Following your rec I picked up a bottle of the Bin 9 today at Macro, 285B...typing this now with nice wine buzz. For about a year I hoarded 'Red Center' Merlot/Cab (Australian) from Macro at about 400B a bottle...great stuff but no longer available. This is nice...very peppery/ripe, but you get what you pay for. Thanks for the rec. A great bottle for the price.

  6. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Chiang Rai isn't an international airport...no direct international flights/no immigration check. So...presumably everyone coming in would have already been subject to scan in BKK. Sounds like window dressing to me.

Oh no? You might think this little province is small but are you forgetting CR is connecting with 2 other countries?

How about illegal North Koreans refugees? They acces from CR, Laos then into Thailand. Let say some virus outbreak comes from China, you think they cant get into Thailand via CR first?

Its a good prevention incase any virus outbreak. Also we have BKK flight, imagine the possibility some foreigner from infected country transit from BKK to CR, dont you think the virus will get spreading here. Is all possible, prevention is better then nothing even for many seems odd.

Yeah, I heard the Thai's are waiting for the North Koreans to line up for thermal scanning prior to illegally entering the country. KonJiangHai...Are you Thai?

  7. It's a vehicle bridge, built next to the original wooden span bridge next to it. From Namlat this is a faster way to go to Doi Hang / Prasert Hot Springs/Akha Hill House. At the Baan Si Moon (village before Mae Yao) junction, turn left and follow it out to the bridge. Good area to bicycle as there is generally not much traffic after the junction.

  8. Level 6 is university level if I remember correctly and that is extraordinary good if a single teacher could offer you that. I would guess that with some basic knowledge and full time studies, about 5 hours a day, 5 days a week for a year would be ok in order to reach level 6.

Memory is failing you Goski! :o But it's ok, mine is too. Actually, level 6 is basically the completion of elementary school in Thailand. The ability to read/write/speak Thai at a high elementary school level is beyond most foreign language learners of Thai. Quick reference for Thai education:

Primary education consists of a six-year elementary term. It is taken care of almost exclusively by municipal schools and provided free. Primary education is compulsory for children between the ages of 7 and 15. There is no compulsory education for those who haven’t finished elementary school when reaching the age of 15, or for those who finish elementary school before reaching the age of 15.

Secondary education consists of five- or six-year terms.

University is as in the West, 4 years for a bachelors...and so on.

    Cheers!

  9. Anyone can recommend a good Thai/English teacher for private tuition?

    Thanks

    M

Hi Martin...I highly recommend Khun Ploy, especially if you are interested in integrating reading/writing with speaking/listening. She has been teaching privately for a few years now, mainly to local missionaries (they are required to pass local level 6 Thai tests to stay) but others as well. She teaches at her own place and other locations, but initially it's easiest to contact her through AUA, then you can arrange privately with her.

    Cheers.

  10. Have a bunch of old Kenneth Cole shoes...Leather is still great, but soles are shot. Any recommendations on a non-hack shoe re-soler that you would personally recommend in BKK? Many thanks.

I have just this weekend left a pair of shoes with a shop on the 2nd floor of Central Bang-Na to be re-soled. I am not confident with them but My wife says they will be ok. he told me it would cost 1,600 baht but when I took my shoes in he said 460 baht.... anyway I have to collect them this weekend and I am sure they will be lost. but if I do get them back and the job is ok I will let you know.

Thanks...that's a start. Onnut you sound familar...have you gone on a Safari lately? :o
