  1. There have been a large amount of posts regarding this incident that need some clarification.

First, I can confirm that it was his Wife that was killed, her body has been taken to Chiang Mai for an autopsy. (On a side note = this is standard procedure for any farang death in Phrae even death by natural causes). The gun in question was a Jericho 941.

Second, I would like to do something that is alien to some Thai Visa members.

I would like to praise Phrae police Chief Maj General Wisut Wongkham and Phrae Police in general.

I will not go into full details of this case as it is subject to Criminal proceedings, but I understand from very good sources, the charge of death by negligence, is the correct decision.

Phrae Police have always treated the farang here with courtesy, and to the best of my knowledge there have been no attempts at corruption towards us.

On the odd occasion where a farang has been assaulted / or subject to other crimes by a Thai National. Phrae Police have been very helpful in obtaining compensation or taking legal action to protect the ex-pat community.

As Ratcatcher mentioned, we do have a large drug problem in the province that is slowly getting sorted out.

Yes there are problems with the legal system, just like there is in our own Countries, and of course there are some bad cops, just like there is some bad farang.

Today, we remember the life of Chanakarn, and send our respects to her Family, and thank Phrae Police for carrying out there duty to the best of there ability.

  2. Stayed at dhevaraj hotel last week, for my own thinking, not value for money at all !

There is a new Hotel opening next door to the dhevaraj on April 2nd, might be worth giving it a try, about time they had some more competition in Nan

  3. You should really look at this through the other foreigner’s position.

He has most likely invested a lot of money, and is just trying to make sure he can get a return on his investment, or a percentage of any profit.

You are aware that money is owed to the bank, so contact the bank manager direct to ascertain how much and who the money should be paid too?

After the bank has collected the money, the chanote will be transferred to the foreigner’s wives name, although the bank can transfer it to your wives name at the land office.

Talk directly to the Owner and his Wive, and most likely make out 3 cheques, one to the Bank, one to his wife (owner of the chanote), and one to the foreigner.

If you find out they are fighting over the money, walk away ! !

It is always best to have a lawyer present anyway, 20,000 baht fee for a lawyer is money well spent in this case

  4. There is no need to queue at the Non – Eu line at Heathrow Airport.

If you are with your Wife and Son, you can take them through the Brit Passport control.

Just make sure you have filled in the Arrival Card for them.

I have done this on a number of occasions, after a member of the Border Agency advised me it was ok to do so (can save up to 1 hour in time)

  5. Most Banks in Thailand will not agree a loan to a new company, they will insist on you running the Company books for a minimum 2 Years.

Looking at what kind of Business it is (it looks like yours may be a Hotel ?), if this is the case you may apply for up to 5 Million Baht with the sme bank, they have a special tourist loan, this is the only bank that i am aware, will help you.

One hopes other readers can input into this, maybe they have had some success in the past

  6. When we consider beggers on the street, one hopes they look at deporting some from our own Country as well. These farang operate on a circuit targeting tourists and farang that live here.

You will find them at Railway Stations, Bus Stations and Supermarkets like Big C and Tesco.

The Ex Pats and tourists have been targeted in Phrae, by a Gentleman claiming to come from Austria or Switzerland,(although his accent is from the Stuttgart region of Germany).

Always the same story, states he lives in Pattaya and claims to have been robbed, asks for Money to help him out as his friend will arrive in 2 days with some money to get him home. He is quite convincing and the Ex-Pats do not like to see fellow farang in trouble like this, (but visiting Phrae for the second time with the same story was a mistake for him)

Description - 1 metre 80 tall, no teeth apart from 1 tooth either side, wears glasses and dresses quite well, has a drink problem as always smells of whisky.

When we see a Ex-Pat in trouble, we always try to help, but people like this need to be deported, if not, then honest people with real problems will not be trusted, and will not get the help they need. :)

  7. You are quite correct with regards above, you can get a 1 year multi based on marriage, with your passport and wifes id card and marriage cert, no need to show money in bank.

Beware about Business visa, there are a lot of topics about it in Thai visa forum, you have to think carefully what would happen if your Wife was to pass away suddenly, and where do you stand then
