  1. The problem is simple. There are two types of water heaters.

    1. One is for showers it will warm the water to a comfortable tempature. The only way to get cold water is to shut it off and just run the water through it without it on. Most Thai style apartments have only one water line running in.

    2. (WHich i think you Have) is for HOT water only so you will need two water lines running in. You will need a cold as well as this line which is hot. So there is really no way to get warm water as you would with style one unless you have the cold water to mix.

It has nothing to do with pressure. What model of stiebel do you have so I can confirm.

  2. Well I have been quoted 359 000 baht by the project manager for my house, for the wood to use for forming the concrete, using as scaffolding etc. Now that sounds like a lot of wood to me! The first thing I thought when I saw that price was 'christ is it Teak!' Am I building a palace! Well no, I am building a 4 bedroomed house. My question is what should happen with this very expensive resource? I am paying for it so I guess I own it. Can it be cleaned up and reclaimed for some value, say 50% or 60% I am having palpatations thinking of this being wasted. I need advice please!!

wow!!! that is a lot! I am in the final phase of building my first house in Bangkok. The first guy we got quoted me a price of 2,000,000 baht to do "my palace" through a friend i found this other local guy that agreed to build it only labor and let me buy all the supplies needed. Doing it this way I truly got to see the real cost.... saved me a fortune! I have done the entire house well under half the price of the original quote, and that is buying everything myself. They just tell me what they need and I go and get it. That is to say that everything in the house is top of the line and not the typical "low budget line" product. Contractors like to buy the cheapest and mark it up sooo for the same price I went out and got the best one and I choose the product line. style. quality!!! Either way i was going to pay the same price> FOOD FOR THOUGHT! Anyhow once you start building it you will want to watch them do it everyday as many Thais don't take much pride in their work. My line of thought is this is my retirement house, my sons house, and my wife's house... better to do it right the first time.

  3. Hi,

Anyone know what works best for sponging down painted walls - the paint is that silk type - half-way beween gloss and matt so it is washable. There are residues of sticky tape I have used for hanging posters as well as loads of dust. I have tried warm water with Vim, Mr Muscle for bathrooms and kitchen cleaner and although they remove the dust, don't work very well for the sticky residues. Anyone got any advice? In the UK we use 'sugar soap' but I have not been able to find any in Thailand.

Try WD40 or sonax spray a little and rub in circle motion with your finger... dont have to use much elbow grease. Can even try peanut butter as it too is oil based.
