  1. What an idiot, or does he have mental health issues? Not content with alleging a fake consipracy against the government of Thailand (they "could have" planted drugs, but they didn't did they?) he now wants to take on the Australian government.

At least the other Red Shirt British gentleman has had the decency to shut his mouth about it once he was deported.

But you must remember he is of Irish descent.

Keep your racist remarks to yourself

  2. Caused entirely by lack of proper maintenance of track and sleepers, as we all know. State railways of Thailand are bankrupt and lose the counrty millions of baht every year. The only answer, of course, is massive investment but if they don't, rail travel in Thailand will be become more and more hazardous. It's such a shame because the railways in Thailand are such an under-used resource. Take Bangkok-Pattaya for example. Despite an 8 lane motorway and buses trauling up and down every 30 mins or less, we still have one train a day (!) in each direction and the departure from Bangkok leaves so early that it misses the arrival times of the long distance overnight trains from north and south. So it's impossible to travel from. say, Chiangmai to Bangkok overnight and then on to Pattaya in the morning. Wonder which brain box thought that one out!

Been coming to thailand for many years, i can say, without fear of contradiction there are two words

that the thais have no concept of, these words are, shame and maintenance.

  3. Anucha Mokhaves, directorgeneral of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department, said provincial authorities and police were instructed to warn motorcyclists and passengers to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations, as Songkran travellers were expected to start returning to Bangkok today.

I was not aware that thailand had any rules and regulations, you learn something new everyday.

  4. I will be applying for PR soon. Eventually, if it makes sense, for TC aswell.

Could anyone tell me if there are any major 'western' countires that do not allow dual citizenship for people not living in their home country?

I know that the UK and Australia allows dual nationality. Not sure about the others though - you should check

Germany, does not alloy dual nationally, most of the rest of the world does.

  5. Whilst many non-Pattayans can rightly find much to be sniffed at here, the fact is it is easy to live a high quality life in Pattaya, and I do.

But I also enjoy going into town once a week on Walking Street for English football, to see friends, and have a few beers. The people watching is also excellent down there, and many of the bars are fun if you are in the right mood, for about 46 weeks of the year.

BUT I absolutely hate living in Pattaya and going into Walking Street in the weeks leading to, and over Christmas and New year, on account of the quality of the high season <snip> which washes up in the city.

Last night I was out and saw the scummiest pieces of <snip> I have seen in a long while. We walked into a bar where there had just been a big English/Irish fight (Transubstantiation has a lot to answer for), and then we walked into another bar where three paralytically drunk young Londoners were sexually assaulting the waitresses, even when the girls objected to being so badly assaulted. It was seedy, disgusting and disturbing.

My visit there last night made me realise we are coming into high season again, and I will now stop going into Walking Street until the middle of January. It's just not pleasant, and it's not fun.

Im really amazed, what would the english and irish have to fight about?.

  6. My bills for my new place just seem too high. 3500 last month and about 3000 this month.

This is direct electricity, there is no middleman serviced apartment collecting a profit.

I run 1 air whenever I'm around. Probably 15-20 hours a day. My gf watches tv with a fan in another room, I have the radio on, and I'm on the computer almost all the time.

I had a place at Surasak with the inflated utility prices where I had a similar electricity use pattern and the price was in the 2000 range per month.

About how much do you pay per month for electricity? And what sort of use do you have?

Throw the mains switch at the fuseboard, then check you meter if its turning youve got passengers, if its not turning photograph the meter, the day the meter man reads it and do the same the next time he reads it, just to make sure theres nothing creative going on.

I have similar usage to you , my bill is never above B1800

  7. I addressed this question in a previous thread already.

According to what my wife had read, the new law would give foreigners the right to buy land, but this right would only be valid for 90 year.

This is not the same as leasing the land in that sense that this new law would allow a foreigner to own land in his name and give it to his (Thai) child when the child has reached the age of which he/she can own land.

This is not possible in the existing law (everything that belongs to a child under the age of 16 years is automaticly belonging to the mother) or with leasing the land (leasing don't makes you the owner of the land and as such don't gives you the right to give the land to your child).

Whats wrong with you people? dont buy anything in thailand, rent rent,or come down to penang, ive bought a house with land, and the title deed is in my name, they also gave me a 10 year visa, will never happen in thailand

  9. American plans to stay for 45 days. Has a plane ticket in and out. What's cheapest, smartest way to go?

    VOA and extend ?

Do I have to do a border run? Its not really convenient for me to to get a 60 day visa in advance but I could get one if I have to.

Use to live in Thailand b-4 but was always on a Non O and WP.

With a Thai wife and kid travelling w /me any chance of getting comped in?

    Cheers,

You are going to need to get a tourist visa, do a border run, or extend your VOA and pay overstay fee for the additional day(s). All relatively equal in cost (although I am not sure about VOA extention) so it is more a question of what is most convenient for you. If you have the time to get one, a tourist visa will allow you to avoid a border run that could waste a whole day for you. If popping over to the border is not an inconvenience for you then I would do that.

If you have a thai wife and you enter thailand on a 30 day tourist visa, you will be able to get a 60 day visa extention at immagration in korat, 1,900 bhat. I dont know about anywhere else in thailand, i got one on the 14 of october,2008.

  10. Hi,

I'm a Norwegian citizen, having worked in UK for the past 4 years. My Thai wife has been living with me in these 4 years, on a EEA family permit.

I have no plans to change to British citizenship, but my wife would like to do so. Checking with the Home Office, they let me know that she can apply for British Citizenship after 5 years (thus, next year), and do not need to change her visa before that. However, she needs to prove that she has been working during those 5 years. The woman on the phone was not very informative on this topic, rather repeatedly asked me to wait one more year and then check if the rules has changed.

Well, she hasn't worked here, except as a housewife. Is anyone aware of the current regulations - is it a necessity to have been working during the 5 years? Is there any way that she can get a British Citizenship?

    rgds

Great , now getting to choose what nationality you want to be, sure beats visa runs, i dont think thailand would be so accommodating. ----Taking the piss, or what

  11. My son has dual nationality. I assumed that having a thai and a UK passport , I would just exit thailand on his thai passport and enter the UK on his British passport ,

now someone is trying to tell me you have to complete whatever journey on the same passport you leave on.

This doesnt make sense, that means I would have to apply for a UK visa for my son if exiting on a thai passport so he can enter UK on his thai passsport, presummably he also cant leave thailand on a Uk passport as there wont be any entry stamps.

can someone just clarify this. I am sure I'm being giving misinformation.

    thanks

Yes , Axel, has given you correct information , my two daughters go back and forward quite a lot, no probbs

  12. I don't think Thailand have a rule saying their people can have only Thai citizenship but that its depend on the rules in the other Country in question.

If we move back to Europe, my Thai wife will have to choose. Only in very special circumstances a Citizen back home can have two Citizenship.

What part of europe is that?, Im a dual national by birth, due to the fact, that i was born in northern ireland, we have british and irish nationality. Im also a naturalized american citizen, that makes three, all quite legal , i suppose going for the thai one, would be a bit of a long shot.

  13. Just been playing some Irish folk music to the missus who was left most unimpressed and found it quite depressing. For the sake of comparison, anybody know where I can download the latest Thai folk (southern, Isaan, whatever) wonders from online? Whatever I download I'll donate 50 satang to the cause to protect against copyright theft.

Forget that friend, go to ( you tube ) type in ( flying colmn ) and you will hear the best rendition EVER ,of these popular folk songs.

Click on the following tracks ---- ( Boulavougue-requiem for the croppies )-----( Sam hall )----( roisin dubh )----( four green fields )----

-( golden jubilee-old maid in the garrret )----( johnstons motor car ), and anything else that takes your fancy, guaranteed to lift the spirits.

    ps my email.

  14. Get used to it....trains, buses, restaurants, government parks & attractions....just about everything..... speak the language, read the language, makes no difference ....still gonna have to pay more when she is with you....

Malaysia, offering 10 year visa to ferangs, bring your car in tax free, buy property and land, ive bought myself three bedrooms, with a nice garden for £45,000 in penang, title deed in my name, never happen in thailand.

Thais dont know what fair play is---- forget about trying to shame them, the words not in their dictionary.

Glad to see the uk booted thaksin out, i hear he was one of the architect of the thai visa system ( what goes around )

    Im outa here.

  15. Where is the best place to sell second hand goods in Bangkok? I have lots of books, DVDs and odd electronic items (TV, etc.) which I would like to sell but aside from a Elite second-hand bookshop near Emporium which I know takes second hand books at a very low price I have no idea where I can actually sell these? Any good tips (ideally where I can get a reasonable price without lots of faff)?

    Much appreciated

    Lucky
