Thanks for the responses, everybody. I'm actually in the US now. I just sent the passport in with a request to add 48 pages. From what I've read, they're selective on whether they fill the request or not. Sometimes they'll just add 24 even if you state you want 48 pages added. Same price for both. Anyway, I gave it a shot. We'll see in a few weeks.

Can you have 24 pages added if you already have a 52 page US passport (if you apply by Dec 31, 2015)? Or is 52 pages the maximum number allowed?

I just wanted to see if you can still obtain a re-entry permit from BKK airport. I see that Maestro's last post on 2013-06-27 02:43:07 said it's still available. I was hoping to get confirmation. I know it was only 3 months ago, but TIT. Anything can change in 3 months.
Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Not true. Just got a 30 ext. yesterday (25/02/2011) on my first, of a dual entry, tourist visa. No mention they're changing policy.

Are there any yoga studios/ schools that teach intermediate to advanced yoga? I have a friend visiting and she's really into yoga. Me? I wouldn't know "downward-facing dog" from a "tree" position
Thanks.

That letter means that persons who are on an extension of stay based on their study will have to leave Thailand on Sept. 30th. One can get an extension of stay of 7 days for 1,900 baht. (don't forget to bring a pass photo)
Persons with an Ed-visa who are still on their initial 90 day entry they got at the border are not affected by this. Their permission to stay remains valid.
Hi Mario,
I'm one of the lucky ones that just enrolled in the course that started this month. I will be on my initial 90 ED-visa until November 31st. Are you sure my visa will still be valid? I don't want to do another visa run, but I really don't want to pay 15,000 baht for a month overstay. Thanks.

Mods- can you move this to the CM Forum? In my haste, I posted in the wrong forum. Thank you.

I thank that is the best. You could look at http://www.nokair.co...px/Welcome.aspx
Thanks Gotlost. I've decided to go too late, and I'm afraid Nok's prices are a little out of my budget. Next time, I'll definitely book in advance though.

I've traveled with Chakraporn bus company too many times. Anybody have the contact info for alternative, better bus companies that sell round trip tickets (Chiang Mai- Udon Thani)? Thanks.

Two years ago I was involved in a motorbike accident in which my right shoulder was broken. I went to CMR, where they did x-rays and then told me that a screw would have to be placed in the shoulder to repair it. Ok, fine, and that's what they did. However, after about 3 months the shoulder had not healed correctly, and in fact, was giving me more problems. I went to two other hospitals for "second opinions", and the doctors at both were amazed that the doctors at CMR had put a screw in, with both of them stating that the screw was totally unnecessary, and was the reason for the continued problems. I finally had the screw removed at a different hospital, and immediately was able to feel the difference.
Maybe the doctor(s) you are talking about are good, but no way would I go back to CMR if I have other choices, and I do.
Thanks for the warning. I've heard/read mixed stories about CMR. This particular doctor doesn't actually work at CMR. I believe he consults off premises and only uses CMR to preform surgeries. I may be wrong though. He may only preform surgeries at Maharaj and Rajavej as uptheos stated. Anyway, thanks again for the feedback, and I'm sorry you had such an awful experience!

Dr Chanakarn Phornphutkul
Orthopaedic Surgeon
407/2 Charoenprathet Road
Tel 053 204545
Leaving Rajavej Hospital, come back over the river, turn immediately right and he has a very big clinic about 100 yards along on the right.
He operates at Maharaj and Rajavej for sure, but I didn't know if he operates at Ram......Paiboon is the Ram specialist, nice guy with good sense of humour.
Thanks uptheos. That did the trick. Will stop in tonight for a consultation.

Sawasdee Khrup, Khun Brycat,
We don't know the Dr. you mention, but we did have a great experience with Ram's Dr. Paiboon fixing up a very badly smashed up right leg (hit-and-run by probably drunken or stoned Thai motorcyclist whilst we was on our bicycle just in front of the Tourist Police Station on Chaing-Mai Lamphun road).
Dr. Paiboon brought in two of the professors from the CMU Medical School to assist in the extensive surgery required. He's a wonderful man, and we still love him. Dr. Paiboon by the way has not only American medical training, but post-grad American orthopedic board certification, which we believe not even the surgeons at Bumrungrad in Bangkok have (at least as of about four years ago).
Assuming your problem is orthopedic, a consultation with Dr. Paiboon couldn't hurt ?
We can't, unfortunately, recommend Chiang Mai Ram because of its price-gouging policies, and incompetent physical therapy section.
There have been multiple discussions in the last few years on this forum of orthopedic surgeons in town; suggest you do a search on this forum.
And best wishes with whatever problem you are having !
best, ~o:37;
Thanks khun Orang. I will take your advice into consideration and keep my mind open to other possibilities. I have read good reviews about Dr. Paiboon as well. Good to also have a current confirmation!

I was wondering if anyone has the contact information for Dr. Chanakarn. I know he's an orthopedic surgeon at Chiang Mai Ram and has a private office outside of Ram. I've heard a lot of good feedback about this particular doctor, and I'd like to set up a consultation for a knee injury. Thanks.

It was easier to find than I thought. Thanks for the help!

Well, with trips back and forth to Bangkok, I slipped on paying my water bill. Too late to pay it at 7-11. A cashier at 7-11 said I had to pay at the water department's main office. She said it was somewhere near Tesco-Lotus on the super highway. I'm assuming she's talking about the Tesco-Lotus close to the northeast corner of Old Chiang Mai. Can anyone help with more specific directions?

Ulysses- are you still experiencing no problems with your AIS 3G?
-
Just put my call into AIS (1175) too. A technician is supposed to get back to me today.
Funny thing- both Hotmail and Facebook both work normally from about 12am to somewhere in the early morning (4-7am). Since the problem seems to be happening to more than just one person, this likely hints at a problem with the AIS server, no? After all, the hours I can access both accounts happens to coincide with low internet usage hours.
Maybe there's a problem with the AIS server and the service isn't working properly because it's overloaded. After all, everything was normal until about a week ago, and I know I didn't change any settings on my computer. Seems kind of fishy that we're all having the same problem, and it occurred right around the same time for all concerned.
Gotlost- It would be great to hear if the 1175 call resolves your problem(s). I'll repost once I talk to a technician.
-
Seems like success was short lived. Having the problem with Hotmail and Facebook again. Looks like it's a problem with the service (AIS) gauging from everybody's feedback so far. Good to know it's not just me. Thanks again for the responses.
-
Thanks for the feedback. I'm now able to log on to both Hotmail and Facebook. And like that, it was back to normal.......

Just curious if anyone is having the same problem with their AIS 3g connection in Chiang Mai. For about 3-4 days, I haven't been able to log into my Hotmail account during the day. I can get to the login page, but after I enter my user name and password, the window simply freezes up.
Strangely enough, the other night I woke up about 04.00 and I could log in. Later that day when I tried to log in again, the same problem occurred. Now, I'm having problems accessing my Facebook account.
I'm able to search the internet with little problem, so I know the connection is fine. I've tried my AIS card on another computer and experienced the same thing. I've used both Explorer and Firefox browsers and get the same results. I haven't tried another connection (LAN, coffee shop wireless, etc.) yet.
I'm wondering if these sites are actually being blocked? It wouldn't be that much of a concern to me, but there are a lot of people trying to contact me in lieu of the political situation that's been happening lately. The last thing I need is to loose touch via the internet.
Thank you.

Sadly, people are reporting on another T/V sub-forum that next to none of the thai embassies which people went to today were aware the 'free tourist visa deal' had re-upped.
Long on talk and promotion, but a little short on communication with their embassies I think.
Sad indeed, but true. The other topic can be found here:

Had to pay the fee in Chennai, India today too. Bummer but it's nice to know other embassies/ consulates are doing the same thing. We thought the Chennai consulate just decided to... uh.... ignore the new policy.

Kawilla Boxing Stadium is most likely the place he's referring to. It's by the train station. They definitely have legitimate Muay Thai fights. Unfortunately, a friend told me they had a fire there earlier this week. From what I gathered, the damage was quite extensive. I imagine it will not be open for fights over the next week or so (maybe longer). That's just a guess so ask around to be sure. Good luck.
EVA Foam Sheets or Puzzle Mats
in Bangkok
Posted
Looking for a manufacturer in Thailand that sells EVA foam sheets or puzzle mats (as pictured below). Dimensions 1m*1m*5cm or 1m*2m*5cm. I'd prefer to have puzzle mats, but I'd be OK with just the foam sheets if it decreased the price. I've tracked down a couple leads, but can't find anything for less than 550 baht per square meter. I'm pretty sure other sources exist. Any help would be appreciated.
