  1. Ihave read that book at least 3 times and tried to quit afterwards, but I have failed every time.

It's really depressing to keep on failingsad.png

ThaiPauly like you I read the book believed it and thought I was the failure but someone once

told me don't stop stopping and I kept thinking of that and also read a more up to date book

free on Kindle called The Book on Quitting Smoking by Diane Barnes, this hit home. I will be

able to do it this time as I want to stop because I've been told it's making me very ill. I had

hoped in the past I could stop before being told to but it would have been easier had I made

up my mind that I was stopping because I wanted to stop as some of the other posters have

said. Good Luck tell yourself you won't fail and I don't think you will. I know this time I'll win.

  2. Don't do it mommysboy. I'm only 9 weeks and 3 days clean but if i hear of people who go back after 5 years of quitting, it just makes me doubt whether it's all worth it if I'm going to end up doing that. You've done that long now, be strong.

Would like to echo this mommysboy. I am going into my sixth week and know what you are asking as I am kidding myself at this moment that I could take one or two a day I know I couldn't so do you so does mrbojangles. In my case I would be sentencing myself to an early death as I have been diagnosed with COPD a progressive lung disease which affects one in five smokers -the progress slows immediately you stop smoking and here I am even considering prolonging the awful addiction.

I am glad I read your post and hope you remain strong. I only knew how badly this was affecting me on my yearly visit to Thailand last year (long haul flight and change of climate) so determinedly had I tried to ignore the danger. Thank you for your post and all replies, this forum has helped when I gave up drinking three years ago and has strengthened my resolve tonight

  3. That is a frightener Ron but thanks for the reality check.

A 'choking' of smokers. Maybe not! Haven't had the

patch nightmare yet Monty feel as if I've been diddled now

but seriously I remove the patch at night and put a new

one on first thing in the morning when the first craving

    hits.

Don't want to get hooked on the patches next but honestly

managing slightly better than I did with the cold turkey

    method so far anyway.

There's still a bit of determination involved (well a lot

    of it)

  4. I am on my 16th day. Using patches second step this time (weaker amt of nicotine grams per hour)

Long time smoker and doing a bit better this time round although fighting cravings many times in the

course of the day. Very hopeful as I now know for sure my health is at stake and listening to the doctors advice for once not to mention the feeling of failure and the disappointment I see in my family when I give in and pretend I am smoking much less and I am sure fooling no one.

    Keep posting good luck!

  5. Jiu-Jitsu and everyone who took the time to look at this post -thank you very much. I now know that I

don't need an expensive p.c. just for a couple of winter months. I was half expecting ridicule for my

ignorance of technology but instead have been given masses of real help. I do use my main laptop

at home to download itunes however have been known to lose some valued stuff even at that, not

    backing up properly etc.

Thanks again and will take the opportunity to p.m. at some point as offered, if I may.

  6. Intending to buy laptop for long winter stay Can anyone advise please having

never before taken laptop abroad should I buy in UK or wait until arriving in Thailand (Koh Samui

    on this trip) to purchase.

It will be a first using computer abroad so any advice from buying to operating i.e. purchase of air card (?) type etc.,

I will not need a machine with all sorts of packages as using for holiday purchase only internet, music, emails to home

    type of usage.

  7. You're not alone lookingfornofixbeingthefix.

I've met many people over my decades of sobriety that scare the snot bubbles out of me by their openly-given stories of mayhem. And I have found myself enough of that same pain too. I hope you've given yourself enough pain and give AA a try -if you're an alky.

You never have to drink again. No person, no place, and no thing -can EVER make you take a drink or drug again. If I can do it, absolutely anyone can do it.

In the beginning I lived to get my bu*t in the next AA meeting. I read the Big Book because I'd drunk too much coffee in the 3 or 4 meetings that day. I was a bad drunk, so I needed every bit of AA wisdom those old timers would give me. And it was free. And nobody was cramming some theology down my throat - that would have turned me right around.

Don't let the talk of 'higher power' or 'god' run you off. In AA, we're all here because we're not all there.

You're obviously a bright guy - and beware of that. This is a cunning disease trying to convince you that you don't have a disease. PM anytime bro. And welcome home.

  8. I am considering buying or renting condo in pattaya or thereabouts hoping to live there

all the year round. Having only holidayed in samui patong etc. am hoping

that Pattaya is a cheaper prospect cost of living wise. Will be moving from the UK.

I am considering a recently advertised new develpment being built in Jomtien however

in the present climate can anyone resident in Jomtien or considering same let me have their

thoughts on moving into newly built property being an advantage as against buying or renting

existing property. Am aware of necessity of lawyers etc.

Whilst I am reticent to mention company advertising this development as may be against forum

rules I would be grateful if anyone would care to identify pitfalls or advantages on new

    developments.
