  1. Pin pointing factual and accurate information is hard right now with this form.

Some thoughts - so apparantly this paper does not have a TM mark on it, i understand the TM is an offical document used for thai immigration, so it appears to be up in the air with this document. Am checking thai immigration website for the form.

Impact - this is more of a physiological impact more than anything after thinking long and hard about this. Again until more reports come out should be patient for now

Here is some information from Asian Correspondent that just was posted today

While the form seems to imply that the information is mandatory, the government said otherwise.

“We won’t force them to fill it out,” said Chatchawan Wachirapaneekhun, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau’s crime suppression unit, according to Khaosod English.

“We won’t bother with their social media – if they aren’t doing anything wrong.”

His comments are likely to add to a confusing situation. Thailand’s expats might wonder why the new fields were included in the first place.

Chatchawan attributed the new information request to “national security.”

As I am not sure if i can post the link or not just google asian correspondent it shows up

  2. My 3BB internet is constantly cutting out today. It works for a few minutes then cuts out. Just wonder if anyone else is having problems with other internet providers.

Not sure if the Internet issues maybe due to the heavy rain we have had the last 2 days.

  3. Different posters on here have mentioned about the impact of tourism. Well history has a perfect example to show of what tourism would easily look like after a major incident in thailand. This is from the bali 2002 incident

Following the first incident on 12 October 2002, after which many countries issued warnings to citizens planning to travel to Bali, the number of foreign tourists visiting the island declined by 57 per cent. Two weeks after the incident, average hotel occupancies stood at 18 per cent; in previous years, the average occupancy rate for October was 70 per cent. In a short time, approximately 2.7 million tourism workers were unemployed.

These paragraphs down here are worth reading and you'll see why

By early 2005, the future of Bali’s tourism industry was beginning to look promising again. But then, on 1 October, another similiar incident struck. The second attack had a different style of execution than the first, but the motives and targets were similar. In many respects, then, the second incident was simply a repeat of the first, so a certain level of preparedness would be expected. Not so.

The reasons for this organisational incapacity to learn are complex. Firstly, a head-in-the-sand mentality endures in government departments ) , as a former high-level bureaucrat intimated when he excused his bureaucracy’s poor preparedness for the second incident in this way: ‘We have to think positive. To think about a recovery program would imply that we want the same tragedy to strike again.’ Echoing this sentiment, another bureaucrat said: ‘We come back to our habits… We believed that there wouldn’t be another attack.’

note all of this was before facebook, twitter, etc social media and rise of smartphones. i dont need to really explain how much social media and smartphones would magnify the impact

  6. First i'm aware that there has been a similiar posting on this before however i'm looking for a dentist who knows how to be careful when doing teeth cleaning as I have a dental crown. The reason I have to ask is I had a bad experience in bangkok and they literally damaged and cracked my crown. I had to get a whole new crown to replace the damaged one which I got only a year earlier. I look forward to any recommendations you guys have as it would be a big help.

  7. Not sure if its just me but there seems to be an ever growing amount of traffic on samui even during slow tourist seasons, which in my opinion means there is an ever growing amount of vehicles on the island. Just wanted to point out that in bophut from

    12 pm to 1 pm

    4 pm to 6 pm

there is usually heavy traffic, when I mean heavy traffic I mean there are cars stopped at the light and backup all the way to zazen and there is no accident. By the way i'm aware that on friday night its more due to walking street.

it would be great if other posters on here could also post other places and general times where you have seen heavy traffic and not due to accidents.

  8. I was not sure where to post this question at on thaivisa if need to move to another forum kindly do so.

After searching through online searches i'm not any closer to finding a answer on getting a SIM card to use for traveling while i'm in the UK on holiday for 2 weeks, only areas I have seemed to find are
    1. many providers in the UK ranging from using
    Giffgaff / EE / Vodaphone / Virgin / O2 / three and more
Any recommendations on which provider has the better coverage in terms of phone calls and internet coverage especially in scotland area
    2. places to get the SIM cards appear to be either from Carphone Warehouse or Phones4U, minimart, grocery store
Any other places to buy from. Recommendations I read are not to buy from the airport especially the vending machine, By the way for certain places please specifically list where the place is at or at least near what tube station.
By the way my phone is unlocked. Need a plan that has at least 3GB internet data and at least calling talk time. need a nano sim card.
Look forward to all recommendations on this. Thanks

  10. First I have 3 computers that share 1 network printer, and 2 computers that have never have any issue with printing but only one of them does and its a everyday issue, on this computer that has the issue printing, keep in mind this computer with the problem has a POS printer attached.

    I've tried the following

    1. System Restore

    2. Removing printers and then re adding printers to the computer

    3. Updated with new printer drivers

None of these solutions have worked

My only solution to get the computer to start to print I have to everyday go into

CMD, type in services.msc, then go to Print Spooler, right click on stop, then after that right click on start then the computer will allow me to print for the network printer and the POS printer attached to this computer, keep in mind it works the whole day, then the next day I have to do this again.

Any ideas on how to fix this so i'm not doing this everyday

  11. For anyone looking for specific areas on how thailand does on many areas you can check out the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report, just for thailand I put out just a few details so you get a basic idea of the report it shows from 2013 to 2014

-Exports as a percentage of GDP - Thailand is 74.2%
    - Agricultural Policy Costs - where 1 = Excessively burdensome for the economy and 7 = balances well the interests of taxpayers, consumers and products thailand got a 3.1
    - Quality of Education System 1 = not well at all / 7= extremely well - Thailand got a 3.4
    - Quality of Electric Supply - 1 = not reliable and 7 = extremely reliable - thailand got a 5.1
Areas where thailand got a rank of over a 100 meaning rank out of 144 countries - which 1 being really good and 144 being at the bottom

Public Trust in Politicans - 129
Business costs of Terrorism - 121
Wastefulness of Government Spending - 115
Reliability of Police Services - 113
Diversion of Public Funds - 108

Attached are some photos you can see from the report. If anyone is interested in reading the full report here is the link
    http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GlobalCompetitivenessReport_2014-15.pdf

Thailand can be found on pages 376 and 377, further down in the report then it compares a longer list of areas on countries vs other countries in terms of scale and rank

I would note a few things countries including Venezuela, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Myanmar are included as well. Also thailand did good and bad in many areas, however I would note this report is over 500 pages long and is very extensive throughout many areas it covers

  12. First I want to note this regards US citizens living in thailand who still have elderly parents in the USA. First my situation is this I work and live in in thailand however my elderly mom still lives in the USA, she is on medicaid and due to certain circumstances I had to step up to be her POA and handle all her affairs. although I did assign another person as the POA she is not always available due to this I have to go back to the USA every year to deal with the medicaid application process for renewal. I just wanted to know from any of you

    1. What has been your experience dealing with medicaid applications and medicaid renewals

    2. Whats the longest time you had to be in the USA to deal with this before you could come back to thailand

    3. If your the sole person responsible for your parents how did you manage your time to be here and in the USA, did you split your time evenly. How often did you have to go back to the USA yearly

    4. Who do you turn to when other family members or relatives will not get involved.

Any advice, suggestions on this matter are highly appreciated.

  13. Right now I use true for my cable at home, and I pay 2,000 baht a month just for cable tv however I would like to switch to IPTV if I can find a reliable iptv provider my only questions are Who are the reliable providers, I know 3BB and TOT have IPTV, however 3BB does not seem to have enough english content and from other poster TOT iPTV does seem to good either. I would like to know if any of you have issues a lot using IPTV regarding

    1. Latency issues
    2. slow connection speeds due to high amount of users online at peak times combined with long buffering times
    3. Issues of the IPTV provider being open now and closed within a few months

    4. Getting outdated software on the IPTV

Also I can assume all this IPTV hardware boxes all run android, or at least it outdated version of android like version 2.2

Look forward to your replies along with information regarding providers and pricing.

  14. Have to agree with other posters that I to was very disappointed with Central as well. As for central I understand many of the shops are not happy about there being walking street at Central 2 days a week, along with no generator when electric goes out. Worse place to be at especially if a monsoon comes or very heavy rain. Parts of walk ways and roofing already damaged.

As for the wharf pricing is way more cheaper than central. I know as they contacted my friend and seen the rates.really hope the wharf brings some better shops or something more better than central

  15. Have seen many taxis today in bophut and maenum have posted very clearly and largely on the side of the vehicles rate starts at 50 baht and service charge 50 baht. Just wondering who is coming to samui or hate to say this but what's the hidden agenda. By the way I doubt very realistically that this is for real meaning in terms of actually charging that fare. I really hope to be proven wrong on this.

  16.
I plan on going back to the USA for about 1 1/2 months, however I do not have friends or relatives to stay with. I have been looking at furnished housing options in the USA for short term period of less than 2 months, however after researching there don't seem to be any options but the following

    1. Airbnb - never tried before, but pricing is good - however not exactly what i'm looking for

    2. Stay at a motel 6 / extended stay america / candlewood suites

    3. Cannot rent an apartment as most have a minimum rent lease of 3 months and not furnished

    4. Corporate furnished housing starts at $3,000 a month or more

I look forward to any ideas or suggestions you guys might have regarding this matter.
