  1. I would just like to say 1 more very important thing before I shut up and go away, and that is that I have been told by people far more experienced than I that 1 of the main reasons that dengue takes a hold in people is through the ingestion of too much Sugar!!!

In common with cancer cells, pathogens thrive in a sugary environment. so if you want to avoid dengue I am told that avoiding sugar or reducing your sugar intake is the absolute number 1 way to do so. Problem is of course - and this could be the reason why there has been a rise in the number of dengue cases - is just how much sugar, sweets and chocolates are now available everywhere in asia. dengue and sugar do not go together well.

  2. Thank you for your comprehensive reply. It is most appreciated.

I am using the Soi 6 Pattaya immigration in Jomtien.

BTW, the money had to be in the account for 3 months when I made the 1st application. They gave me a 3 month non-immi (?) as an interim measure when I first applied, followed be the R Visa.

Yes, I also trust they will be flexible.

    Will let you know . . .

  3. I've been checking the forums but cannot see a specific answer to this, I'd be very grateful if someone could help and enlighten me:

I know that 800,000 baht has to have been deposited in a Thai bank account THREE MONTHS before the ORIGINAL retirement is applied for . . .

My question is, when that visa comes up for renewal one year later, is it sufficient to show a current balance of 800,000bt, or does that sum also have to have been in the account for the previous 3 months prior to the day of application for the renewal?

My retirement visa expires 21 April '09. Do I have to transfer funds NOW, or can I wait till April?

    Thanks a million!

  4. Thanks for pointing out my error. To suggest moderation to an alcoholic is plain wrong as it simply is not possible. I apologise to any of you out there who might have taken offence.

However, I'll stand by the rest of my post as being helpful to anyone (and that's most of us) who at one time or another got into a lifestyle where drinking began to have a deleterious effect on our liver and health. A natural cleanse really works to aids the liver to repair itself. The health benefits that ensue can be most wonderfully felt and observed.

PS Any way of editing the original post to remove one or two sentences? As moderator are you able to do that?

  5. Just surfing through, on my way to posting my own question when I came across this section. Hope I can help someone.

We abuse our livers in many ways and alcohol is just one of those ways. For anyone, particularly those who are concerned through drinking, may I offer this as I don't see it on Thaivisa: Some natural and EASY ways to cleanse your liver AND feel great!

NUMBER ONE: Active yeast. (a baker will sell it if you ask - or buy in supermarket packs) It contains B vitamins and Pangamic acid, absolutely vital for proper liver functioning, and it reduces inflammation. Mix with warm water (a spoonful or two) and take on an empty stomach twice daily. I drink plenty of water first thing in the morning then drink the yeast, then drink water again for 10-20 minutes. I promise you, this WORKS!!

)OK, then I have a coffee - what I REALLY wanted all along - but I drink more water after that).

Next: Carrot and Tomato juice. Make your own. Buy the best and freshest (you're worth it!!), and get a juicer. 3-4 carrots and a couple of tomatoes. Scoff that an hour or so after the yeast. Alkalize your blood and clean out your system. These juices EXCEL at doing just that. Now you are really groovin' . . .

Want to add some antioxidants? Ground Chillies are THE MOST POTENT SOURCE! Spice it up! A jar in a super here costs 30 baht!

Breakfast? SAY NO to bacon, eggs and the like. Eat any kind of fruit you like. Plus yoghurt and some VERY HEALTHY wheatgerm on top. AM I MAKING SENSE HERE??

When you get hungry mid-morning, choose oats - with half water / half milk - soy best. Buy Pecans, sunflower and pumpkin seeds to sprinkle on top. Cinnamon is a VERY healthy spice to add flavour. Now, you aren't hungry, are you?

After that . . . ? Up to you. Go for it. But KNOW that you've started your day right. Get the habit. You'll feel great.

Things like pizza, burgers, chips, coke . . . cake, chocolate, biccies . . . well you know, don't you? Eat LESS!

Microwaves KILL vitamins and nutrients. Avoid them!! EAT RAW - EAT FRESH. Get to like bananas, apples and dried fruit.

You know, a few beers are one of life's joy's. It's all the crap we're exposed to that causes us problems.

When you eat, think what your body needs. Ignore the media.

    I knew you'd understand . . .

Hey, I'm drinking a beer now. I love the stuff (in moderation).

  6. The wrong FOODS cause 99% of problems both mental and physical. The right foods can heal them. This I know.

Daniel Reid (the tao of health, sex and longevity) says the retention of uric acid is the main cause of Gout and recommends carrot, beet and cucumber juice 10oz/3oz/2oz 2 pints daily taken at 6 intervals (buy a juicer and make your own).

Also lemon (lime?) juice taken 4-5 times between the above.

    Raw spinach is good.

Avoid meat (you do) and refined starch and sugar, salt and preserved food.

If you are near Pattaya (and even if you are not) Google 'pattaya sports clinic' and see Nigel Kelsey. A most ordinary guy to meet - but gifted in massage and acupuncture. I am sure that he will amaze you with real results.

I'd be very happy to hear if the above helps you. Of course it goes without saying, keep off or severely limit ALL junk foods, inc fizzy colas, etc. Slow death in a glass. The beer would be better for you.

I'd also THROW AWAY the drugs you mention. NOT NECESSARY!!

  7. I've just read in a respected newsletter (www.the-privateer.com) (note: subscription access only) that a recent Aussie survey revealed that over 50% of respondents did not have $Au500 in savings and in a crisis 60% could not come up with Au$2000. This information must have been reported in the Oz media recently.

I don't know who was being asked, certainly I'd expect that 99% of welfare recipients anywhere in the west (my own UK included) would be within the group that said no, but I'd expect that sampling must have included working people too.

Any comments? Do people really have so little in reserve? We hear of many who live off credit or from one wage to the next. But those 50/60% figures. Would you expect it to be so high?

Quote from the Privateer: . . . a recent survey asked Aussies if they currently had at least $A 500 in "savings". More than half said NO. It went on to ask that if dire necessity arose, could they come up with $A 2000 in "liquid capital". More than 60 percent said NO.

  8. The above posts clearly indicate to me just how little attention people pay to the information they read. Guys, go over the report again - though put your brains into gear before you do!

The report comes from self-interested groups making outlandish claims backed up by highly dubious statistics. Think about it . . .

Are you really all SO gullible?

    Bah!
