  1. I'm interesting in selling a house in Thailand, then buying a house with that money in another country. Am I required to report the sale to the U.S. tax IRS? I presume if I do, I'll have to pay some capital gains taxes. I would prefer to sell the house in Thailand, and send the proceeds directly to a bank in the other country where the new house will be bought. Any thoughts/suggestions on the best way to do this? Thanks!

  2. If someone went to a Thai hospital, with no insurance, and just paid cash for the services, does any of that medical information get back to a U.S. health insurance company? In other words, if someone had a serious medical condition in Thailand, will U.S. health insurance companies have any access to that information? If the U.S. health insurance company somehow found out someone lived in Thailand in the past, would that insurance company have any success in finding out about the medical records that may still be on file inside Thailand?

    Thanks!

  3. Those are all very valid points, thanks. I was more worried about the financial health of the HOA. If too many people default, what happens. And i've gone over the financial statements, but it's not clear to me if it's healthy or not healthy. I've heard stores that even in deluxe condos, if there are too many foreclosures that don't pay the HOA fees, the pool can be closed, no services, etc. It can be scary!

  4. I'm in the process of buying a condo in the U.S. Is there anyone in Pattaya that is familiar with reading all the legal contracts and documents, disclosures, etc., to make sure that it all looks good? if you're a former realtor, lawyer or just really familiar with buying property, I'd be happy to take you to a nice lunch in Pattaya, and go over these documents to get another opinion. Please message me if interested. Thanks!

  5. We're thinking of going to one of those restaurants on Walking Street that has a terrace on the water, facing Bali Hai pier. Can we see the New Year's eve fireworks there? Is that where the city has their fireworks this year? Any experiences in those restaurants? Thanks!

  6. I need to ship a 20' container of household effects from Pattaya to Phoenix. Do I need to be in Phoenix when it arrives, or at the port the container enters the U.S. to clear customs, (maybe Long Beach, California)?? Also, what might be the approximate cost to ship this? Any recommended companies where you had a good experience?

    Thanks so much!

  7. That is a beautiful dog... they have lots of beauties there, and quite a few healing on their way back to health. I strongly encourage people that recognize the dog overpopulation problem around Pattaya, and love dogs, to go and make a no-obligation visit. And the 100 dogs there seem to love when a visitor arrives, and you will be greeted with lots of affection.

For directions, just go to the turnoff where Mulligan's Bar is on Lake Mapbrachan (see photos in earlier post), the road curves around to the right, and you make a LEFT TURN at the first soi, and it's I think the second building in, with the blue sign on the gate "Canine Sanctuary". Very easy to find.

  8. I finally made it to the Canine Sanctuary. If you're a dog lover, please go out and have a tour. There is no plea or obligation to make a donation, but it seems like the couple are paying almost all costs themselves. They have about 100 dogs, and i think 6 cats. In this part of thailand, there aren't many places like this, probably no other, certainly that I know of. Not difficult to find, if using the photos in this thread above, just look for Mulligan's Bar, on Lake Mabprachan.

And thank you to the nice person that posted those photos!

  9. Its owned by a very good friends of mine Derek and Malee. It has been there 4 years, and is to be found in Tambon Pong, about 100 metres from Mulligans Bar. He has around 80 dogs and a few cats, all very well cared for , all strays who would have otherwise most likely died. Some really beautiful animals and potential pets there.

They are a lovley couple and Im sure any donations would be great appreciated. His vets bill alone frightens the hel_l out of me !!

    numbers 0895057021 and 0810021957

I would love to go... can you be a little more specific about where Mulligan's Bar is? thanks..

  10. I read in one of the Pattaya newspapers there is a new "Canine Sanctuary" in Lake Mabprachan. But the article didn't give any address, directions, contact info. Does anyone know where it is, with good directions how to get there? Would love to help support something like this.

  11. Looking for a store in Pattaya or Bangkok that sells a gas outdoor bbq grill, to go in a built-in stone/tile counter. (I'm not looking for a stand alone bbq), looking for a permanent built-in type.

I went to Homeworks, but I guess they never heard of them. If anyone has a suggestion, most appreciated!

  12. Haven't heard a thing. I thank they are dreaming but could be wrong.

there is info about it on the new April issue of "PREMIERE" the True Visions t.v. guide monthly magazine. it's their front cover story, almost all in Thai language. but i think it looks like you need a special HD receiver, plasma or HD 1080 type t.v., and their "hd package". lots of info on it, in Thai, page 6 and 7. i got my magazine in the mail today.

  13. I'm trying to figure out roughly what the monthly fee would be to have 4 t.v.'s set up for the dish system. If I get the "platinum" package, which i think is 2,000 baht per month, do I pay that once, or do I pay that per t.v.?

Can I have one t.v. on the platinum package, and the other 3 t.v.'s on the Silver package and save any money?

So roughly, would would the cost be per month for one dish, and 4 t.v.s?

    thanks!

and hopefully one day they will print a brochure in English, cause i suspect a good amount of their customers don't speak Thai.

  14. Hi, I use True Visions at home.

I believe most subscribers who want to hire cable TV from True would just pick some package like Silver, Gold, etc. which give you a predetermined mix of channels. There are a bunch of news channels, movie channels, documentary channels, etc. in each package.

If you're very much into movies for example, you might get the extra movie channels package as an add-on. It's when you purchase these add-ons that they call it "a la carte".

    Andy

i guess my question really is what do you get for the "a la carte" 499 baht, or 299 baht. their brochure doesn't give a clue.
