  1. Hi,

    I am British, under the age of 30, and legally married to a Thai. We completed the jo-ta-bein in Thailand (legal Thai marriage certificate).

    I have been in Thailand for the last two years on a type o, non-immigrant visa working in a salaried job at an Intl. school. My contract will end in July and i'm looking at what opitions I have.

    I will be shifting into a job which I will be payed for from outside of Thailand, salaried around 60,000 per month.

    What options do I have? I have read about the non-immigrant visa options for married couples, but it seems the information changes often and i'm unsure of whats current and whats not.

    Can anyone in a similar situation clarify?

  2. Hahaha.

    I've been trying to come up with jokes about the spanish all week... something to do with a dogs running with their tails between their legs.

    <rant>

    No, seriously... I think all these countries pulling out of Iraq are the shiznit.

    Its sad to realize that some governments (maybe all) don't realize their mistakes before or while they make them.

  3. This is dissapointing++

    There is no doubt the system will be used as part of the US's "big brother" to track the travel habits and locations of westerners and Asians alike.

    The FBI will be trying to sell Magic Lantern to the Thai Royal Police next. Pfft.

    And yes, Taksin is so double faced its hard to know what he's thinking... "The US is a useless friend" ... oh, "we'll buy there hardcore tracking system".

    All our base are belong to America.

  4. Monty,

    IPTV customers are functioning half-duplex (e.g. downlink is satellite, uplink is modem).

    We've had a few instances where iPSTAR has done late night maintenance and the connection became 'uncapped' for a period of time - meaning we were getting download speeds of 80 KBps+

    Anyway, the iPSTAR system is still in its infancy and has a long way to go before being a true 'last mile' solution.

    Additionally, the security of the iPSTAR system leaves much to be desired. For example, the network boxes (EBxxx) all use a common administrative passwork allowing users to hack, disable or modify the configuration of other users iPSTAR boxes. It is also possible to move your box between subnets and expand you IP address space e.g. move from having 4 assigned addresses to 6 (or more).

    Example:

    203.170.219.0 = Network Address

    203.170.219.1 = Network Box

    203.170.219.2 = Your Machine/Server/Firewall

    203.170.219.3 = Broadcast Address

    ^ the above is a /30 subnet (255.255.255.252) with 64 subnets per class c space.

    Its possible to do this:

    203.170.1.0 = Network Address

    203.170.1.1 = Network Box

    203.170.1.2 = Your Machine

    203.170.1.3 = Your Machine

    203.170.1.4 = Your Machine

    203.170.1.5 = Your Machine

    203.170.1.6 = Your Machine

    203.170.1.7 = Broadcast Address

    ^ Gives you an additional 5 'public' IP addresses to user. The above is a /29 subnet (255.255.255.248) with 32 subnets per class c space.

    Pleae do not try the above. If you cross into someone elses address space it would not be 'pretty'.

    NOTE: I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE MAKE THE ABOVE MODIFICATIONS. I AM SIMPLY SHARING THEM TO POINT OUT SOME OF THE MAJOR ISSUES WITH iPSTAR. THE IP ADDRESSES USED ABOVE ARE FICTIONAL.

  5. Hi,

    I have a 512/128 kbit at home and a 256/128 kbit at work.

    At work I'm getting download speeds of around 31 KBps which is just slightly below what it should be. At home i'm getting around 66 KBps - which is slightly higher than it should be. Those iPSTAR users on the 512/128 kbps plan are actually on the iPSTAR-1 satellite where as those users on the 256/128 kbps plan are still on Thaicom-3.

    I suspect that TC3's iPSTAR backhaul is far more saturated than the new iPSTAR-1 backhaul. As a corporate customer - I constantly stay on the 'backs' of iPSTAR via phone, email and messenger. When un-explained outages occur or speed/wire performance is lower than it should be I recommend you 'make some noise' about it!

    m.

    Note: KBps = Kilo Bytes per second, kbps = kilo bits per second, there are 8 bits in a byte, 256 kbits = 32 kilobytes, 512 kbits = 64 kilobytes.
