  1. Having received my new Truevision HD Plus in early December.the first two days trying to record a programe I gave up and made a call to the carecentre and was informed that it wasn`t available until next year at an extra baht99 per-month, we are now into a third of "NEXT YEAR" and there are still now signs of any PVR action.I am wondering if any readers have had any joy with this as it keeps beeing advertised on TV and Truevision magazine.

  2. The only way tourism will come back is if the government lowers the baht like the dollar, euro and pound did the last 2 years.. A retour flight from Europe cost already 40,000 baht and then getting 40-41 baht for 1 euro makes the holiday to expensive, same for dollar and pound. :annoyed:

Also would be a good idea to get rid of the racket of charging Bht150 for using a foreign ATM card

  3. As tourists, the Japanese are notorious for taking short holidays. Of course there are plenty of Japanese backpackers too nowadays, but I can't think this change is aimed at such thrifty visitors. So it's more of a gesture than anything of real value to many people.

Malaysians are the number one visitors to Thailand, But they only cross the border for a cheap Boom - Boom weekend. Ever tried getting back over the border on a Sunday evening?

  4. One of the many things I love about living here.

It really bugs me how many people make comments like this. Sure Thailand has different standards than alot of western countries, is it perfect? No. Do they welcome your opinion on their culture such that you should continue to offer support and constructive criticism? No.

That said, they are going to change when they feel like changing. The Thais make it very clear that they accept you to reside here at will, but you are not welcome to comment on their society. You are a guest not a prisoner. There are daily flights from several airports back to wherever you are from. If you are not happy here, or wherever you are on earth you should leave. Life is too short to be so miserable all the time.

My other peeve is these stories almost always come out of either Pattaya, or Patong, Phuket. Do not generalize Thai nightlife to include these places. I have been living here off and on for 8 years, and I have managed to go that entire time without even witnessing an event like this. The rare occasion when I have seen someone being "attitude adjusted" by a bar or gogo staff, they deserved it. I went to Pattaya a few times in the beginning, and recognized it for what it was, and stopped going there. Never had a problem. I also go to Phuket pretty regularly, but I stay on Kata or Kata Noi beach, and rarely venture to Patong. Never had a problem. I don't go drinking in the Harlem NY, Newark, South Central in LA, Roxbury in Boston, South Houston, Tijuana, Juarez...you get the point I think.

We all know there is always more to the story when a HiSo Thai is involved with a LoSo Thai in a conflict, and we also know that Pattaya is one of the true cesspools of the world, so calling someone a prominent Pattaya business person, in my book is that same as saying "New Jersey Sanitation Company owner" or "Chicago political organizer" This is corrupt shitbags fighting with other corrupt shitbags over who knows what slight, perceived or actual, in a corrupt shit hole filled with drunks, losers, and rookies.

I will humbly offer this piece of advice from my limited world experience. If you take money from an ATM in the South Bronx at 4AM next to the parking lot where the junkies hang out, you will get robbed. If you hang out in that wretched den of scum and villany known as Pattaya you will get exactly what you pay for.

That about sums up the state of your country mate, is the USA thinking of making Thailand a state?

  5. Agree to disagree here - particularly Pattaya - even if you're in the right - and you can get a beating.

Incidentally - there are a few places on Khoa San Road - Bangkok - which are frequented by foreigners whose Thai staff are only too happy to attack their customers if the opportunity arises even for the slightest and most trivial of excuses.

In all the years I have lived in Thailand I have never witnessed a one on one fight between a Thai and a Farang, allways the odds are against the Farang Never ever seen a Straightener ( One on One)

  6.

So if the Thai exports are relly being hurt by a stronger Baht....my question is this:

So who is benefitting by a stronger Baht? It certainly isn't us, retired Americans who get paid our pension in Dollars. (And don't say we should go to another currency...even if our government would ever do that (which it won't).

If the Thai government was really serious about stopping the rise of the Baht against the Dollar/Pound/Euro they could simply require a 30 day notice peiod for anyone who wished to buy Baht beyond a certain amount. That would limit the availability of Baht for speculation.

    So my question again is:

WHO is benifitting from a stronger baht?

The Fat Cats in Bangkok, you only have to look in the Bangkok Post For the Ferraris, Aston Martin, Lambourghini, Etc For sale.

  7. Probably not the same students. BUT, yesterday everyone was whining and crying with shouts of "hang em high" at the teacher that was caning some high school boys. Perhaps if there was more of that caning going on there would be less of this killing going on. This is not the first young child to be killed by high school boys.

Why why does this sort of thing have to happen? An innocent killed in the name of an inter school feud So sad so very sadangry.gifangry.gif

This is not exclusive to Thailand, You can read abouit this sort of thing most days in the British press, where a group have ambushed a young kid and stabbed him, it`s a very sad problem in the world to-day!

  8. According to another post the BoT is shorting the Thai Baht to the tune of 70 billion dollars.

As long as they can keep this up the Baht will remain high ....... run out of funds and it will soon be 60bht to 1 dollar.

I have lived on Koh Phangan for 10 years now and talking to Thai friends who own Bars, Resorts etc, they allseem very proud of the strong Baht but when I ask them are they better off for it I get a blank Manuel (Fawlty Towers) look

  9. Dear Thaksin,

There is no pit in hel_l low enough for you. Your role in the suffering of Thailand will be a permanent stain on Thai history. A human travesty.

I`m just wondering how Abhisit is going to look after this,as his handling of all this has been pretty inept if indeed he was in control, He has something in common with Thaksin as they are both on amnesty internationals human rights list.
