I don't think this will go down well with twenty-something group who want to pay everyhing with their mobile phone (Apple pay, Google pay, etc.). I was in Germany when all hell broke loose when a twenty something old tourist was told they only accepted cash. Complete melt down ,, smile.

Wonder how, if they do at all. donate money to charities or give to beggars in the street.

Will beggars be required to have contactless payment facilities or a bar/QR code to accept dinations!!!!????

  2. really and just how exactly are foreigners suppose to register.

Sure go see your local health visitor did that, they came round 4 times taking the exact same details amd not heard a thing back?

So see your local hospital, yup did that and after about 45 minutes of going from on administration to another eventually found a little office tuck in the corner near the front entrance that produced a form that was totally empty apart from the detail boxes filled that in and they said we will phone you ????

Nope not heard a thing. Yet wife who register at same time(oh she is Thai by the way) has her appointment on 7th June ????

So, please do not say everything is rosy in the garden and we are all getting vaccinated. They have NOT yet introduced a system for foreigners to register.

We keep hearing that ALL will be vaccinated, foreigners included, yet nothing is evident in practice.

Yes loads of Thais, well it is their country after all, are inline to get vaccinated.

I even hear that a vaccine is available for your dog and cat. Yet foreigners???

  3. Well, Strange as it may seem. Having just come back from holiday in sunny Thailand, I returned to work and had a conversation with a bloke early this morning, and he said his mate was looking for engineers to "START" building a nuclear plant in Thailand. like immediately? And here I am reading a discusion about whether or not they will vote on building one? Looks as though it may be a forgone conclusion already!

Any big areas being cleared in Thailand at moment!

  4. Well, I'm HK Scottish and I don't find the "humour" funny.

I don't really get why the "humourist" thinks it's English Bank accounts being raided. The only English retail bank left is of course Barclays since HSBC, TSB, and RBS are largely Scottish, like the Bank of England 555

cool, mmmm HSBC? Hongkong and Shanghai Bank think you mean HBS Halifax Bank of Scotland

So good Scotsman if he is getting 90 percent for sitting a home, mind you could be a foreign national here in Scotland running the ring.

OH and Bank of Shetland in England, who ever said that must have missed out on geography lessons. or follow this link http://www.shetlandtourism.com/

    cheers :o)

  5. The difference between the anti-red trolls and the pro-red trolls is that the pro-red ones use false information to make their point (e.g. the army killed the poor unarmed protesters, the Abhisit govt wasn't democratically elected, the black shirts weren't anything to do with the red shirts, etc, etc) whereas the anti-red ones use news sources (OK, news isn't exactly neutral, but at least it's a documented source), photo and video evidence, facts...

Ok you post any video clip without commentar and you will get different stories from different people as to the actual story. What is the truth, it is only someones take on that paricular subject. There will always be pro and anti in everything. Its just sad that it comes down to one side or the other using violence to quell the other sides voice. Throw the verdict to the whole country and let everyone (who has a right to vote) vote and have the result counted by a trustworth independant source, only that way would you get what the majority want.

Some people will say this is a nono as you have people voting and they do not know the correct way to vote! a person voting will vote for what they feel that they should votefor, why should someone else tell them how to vote! Why should someone else "dictate" what the other person should vote for. If someone breaks the law fine then they should be subject to that law. Telling someone that they do not know the right way to vote is only another form of dictatorship. People make there decision on what they perceive around them and what they think is best for them. So YOU cannot tell someone how they should voteor why the cannot say what they believe in. If they break the law then ok,

The red shirts are only voicing what they believe in, as the yellow shirts have done. I believe the red shirts wanted a vote to take place in November?

anyway I have ranted enough. This is only my thoughts :o)

  6. Most demonstrations throughout the world have to have some level of organisation! Take UK for instance, The Unions organise demonstrations, certain officials are paid to attend, the further down the chain you get you come to a level, (just above the minions) that are paid expenses for showing up, and some minions are paid expenses to cover travelling costs, accommodation, etc etc. It is maybe here in the video that we have seen an allocation of certain expenses being doled out. As you may note there is no long queue, most of the one getting the handout seemed well presented with good T-shirts on and a few even had I.D. Badges strung around their necks. Official drivers? I do not know, but would hazard a guess as such. Now the rest of the demonstrators I feel would be your everyday people who believe in this party and its causes. :)

But where does the strike fund money come from? From union fees collected from the workers. If it ever came out that a political party was directly giving money to support a crippling strike there would be hel_l to pay.

Well at moment most unions seem to donate their money to the Labour party! Why? beats me, they are all a bunch of crooks. But I am sure that there is a certain amount of, well how would you say, "quiet" words whispered in ears to further causes of one party over another! This works for all partys I will say :D

But this is Thailand and as we are dealing with a different set of rules., thought in mobilizing demonstrations much the same idea. It just that the funding comes from different sources!

  7. NOPE, never said it was MY idea of democracy, All I was saying is that a proper election should be held. Let the people decide, I do not believe in BUYING votes, votes should be done on the individuals choice, and not who hands out the biggest wad of money!

All I want is proper election and peace to reign, instead of unrest and threat of bloodshed!

Perfect agreement! The same way I think about demonstrations, what about you? Should money be handed over to go to protest? Or proper demonstrations are those in which people protest for free without being paid? We need consistency. Would you agree?

  8. OK,

Will say again! Taskin goes to Cambodia (he is advisor to the Cambodian Government), his red shirts are protesting in Bangkok hoping to topple government! .......... ok you with me so far?

Cambodia recently did a rocket demonstration near the border. It will only be used if there borders are crossed! Don't they lay claim to some land that the Thais lay claim to as well?

North and North East Thailand , the majority of people support Taskin, (So I read anyways)...... so ok how many of you have now fallen off the train of thought here?

By all means I hope my train of thought is totally wrong and this does not get ugly and this does not end up with a neighbouring country coming to visit!

I would like to see a stable Thailand and things to be done democratically, so maybe the Thai Government will back down and go to the polls and have a proper ellection!

So make me wise because now you lost me, what are proper elections? Who pays more wins? 200-500 per head? This is your definition of democracy?

  9. OK,

Will say again! Taskin goes to Cambodia (he is advisor to the Cambodian Government), his red shirts are protesting in Bangkok hoping to topple government! .......... ok you with me so far?

  10. I I have travelled in many countries, most of them very much 3rd world countries and have been confronted with hordes of tribes brundishing guns, found myself in places at night that even the locals would not go to at night, just by purely being where one should not have been! and been in very tight situations where you get thrown in jail for just being present.

but will that stop you bleating "I am a Farang, you can't touch me!"....BANG!!....'oopps solly mister I was just nervous and pull tigger by acident'

    enough said I think :)

    Have a nice day

I'm wondering have we have crossed paths in some of the dark alleys of the world and not said hello to each other?

Wow!! 007 meets CIA, what exciting live the Walter Mittys of the worl lead.

LOL very kind, I was thinking more along the lines of Forrest Gump style, it just kinda happens :D

  11. This morning I saw 5 buses of soldiers armed with machine guns in Din Daeng.

They will protect the farang for sure :-)

You know the thai people i would of thought are not out to cause harm to falangs after all if we wern't there well thailand would not be generating money so i dont think we need to worry but you never know as i had a gun pulled on me by a thai gent over 5 baht as i did not have any change for the toilet and went back 10mins later to pay but he was angry and it got heated but i could'nt apologize enough but he was not interested and then produced a gun that was in pattaya so maybe we do need to look to go to other places and see how amazing thailand survives :D

I think that a lot of these reported situations, i.e. above are avoided if you take the gentler approach to things as oppossed to the usual Farang " I couldn't give a F""K" attituded, I have travelled in many countries, most of them very much 3rd world countries and have been confronted with hordes of tribes brundishing guns, found myself in places at night that even the locals would not go to at night, just by purely being where one should not have been! and been in very tight situations where you get thrown in jail for just being present.

It is all down to your attitude to the people who inhabit the land and the country you are in. LEAVE your western Farang attitudes elsewhere and realize that you may work live or are visiting a foreign country where rules are different.

It really browns me off watching farangs acting as though they are something special because they have money, WAKE up and smell the coffee..

This looks like it could be a whole different ball game from the usual demos.

Taskin is wanted for a 2 year jail sentence! He has been good to the people of the North and North East (I will await the gripers on that one) He is presently advising the Cambodian Government! which happens to be the next country to Thailand!

Where does the border meet, Oh look the North East of Thailand!! Think about that one :)

The wealth that he accumalated either before he was in power or after afterwards I do not know, that is being decided. Is a lot of money!

So great caution is very advisable. DO NOT think I am FARANG I will be ok, if you happen to be in the area of trouble then you are just another figure in the crowd, goes for anywhere in the world.

Ultimately you will do what ever you choose to do, either ignore or take heed. If you find yourself in a situation where things are not good through ignoring the facts and advice then you only have yourself to blame!

But will that stop you bleating "I am a Farang, you can't touch me!"....BANG!!....'oopps solly mister I was just nervous and pull tigger by acident'

    enough said I think :D

    Have a nice day

  12. Go to Pattaya more fun and less money. :D

Yep looks like that is what we are going to do. She can catch bus easily from Satuk, so will meet her in Pattaya for a day or two :D

then go back up to Satuk/Buriram, cool she is really eager for me to meet parents and see where she lives. :D

Pattaya is probably more fun, don't know about less money though. One can get carried away. All those flashing lights and cute girls just itching to relieve you of a big bunch of bahts! :)

Any more updates on flights to Buriram?

  13. Tell both the girl and her father you have had a better offer.

    Details as follows,

23 years old, never married, university educated, currently working, speaks perfect English, great sense of humuor, good natured, has a personality (hard to find in some), owns her own house, has her own car (not sure on details regards finance, but suspect paid in full), willing to relocate overseas, not in any rush to have children, no, repeat no sin-sot required, no details on student loan (never asked).

    pm for details if interested.

Cool, I know old post, she still available. even with a few extra years on the clock :)

  14. Result, the Mrs has just phoned. One of her friends from pattaya has said he will drive us to surin in his pickup and wait (his family are from the same village) until we wish to return to patts.. all for 1500bht/day ...... winner

Hiya, When I was last in Pattaya (Oct 2009) was looking to go to village north of Buriram, they quoted 1,500 Baht a day for limo? (Well car I guess) anyway looks like you are going to pay standard rate? If petrol is included you win if not "welcome to Thailand" :)

Big yellow Bus is cheaper and aircon as well, maybe not see as much as own car though. And be careful of big hill heading upcountry. Still a few robberies there I hear!!! :D

Anyway I will be just North of Buriram in March to. Was going to Pattaya first but thats changed as g/f is at home now :D

So will have to try and find good way from Bangkok airport to Village (Satuek) north of Buriram. Flights seem to be out of question now?

  15. So I to am going to Buriram area in March, and was hoping to catch airplane. I land on 24 March in Thailand and was looking to go straight to Buriram. (Haven't see G/F for a few months now :D ) anyway

Having looked at Nok web site, not a thing in March????? Maybe they just haven't updated yet? economy! lack of passengers?

So guys can you recommend so other way to go from Bangkok airport Int not domestic to Buriram (well Satuk really, but Buriram is close enough) And no not walking either :)

Something not to expensive and reliable. Otherwise is could be g/f will have to travel to me in Bangkok first. But she is worried about that, lol could be another day not seeing her! :D :D

So Car? Bus, (would that mean travelling to a bus station?) TAXI!!!!!! :D

lol other idea is I go to Pattaya for a day and then catch bus north :D
