  1. Would anyone living in Nakhon Sawan know if there are any wood working furniture factories there. We have to furnish our house and my wife wants a four poster bed and I want a display cabinet that will fit a certain sized wall in the living room. Yes there are plenty of shops that sell furniture but some times one would like something unusual or size. Would appreciate the info. :)

  2. I want to buy a decent sized refrigerator in Nakhon Sawan for domestic use.

Big C seem to have a reasonable range but nothing really big with a separate freezer

    and auto defrost.

Are there any other specialist shops where I might find something better?

I bouight my fridge and washing machine and fan and micro wave oven from the new shop right next door to Big C on the mian road. Prompt delivery and very compatible price wise to anybody else. They also have a huge range of other goods eg TV home entertainment etc.

    Good shopping.

  3. NakhonSawan is a relatively big town and there must be PLENTY of travel agents.....

I wonder if you live in town or in a small village around there..... just walk around the main roads and I am sure you will come accross one..... or ask locals......

I have never seen travel agent in Nakhon Sawan and I have walked quite a lot there

that would be the first city of its size having not a single travel agent. maybe not just visible for the average Farang.....

places to search for one or inquire further: local long-distance-Bus-station, around Fairyland-Plaza, asking at the reception of bigger hotels (Pimarn, Him Palace).

or ask the Farang owner of the SUMATHO HOUSE at www.sumatho.com (no idea if it still exists, though)

if nothing helps, call those airlines I listed earlier....

Thanks guys, yes big town but still a long way behind, I should have bought a return in the first place.

  4. :) I;ve been told that there are no travel agents in Nakhon Sawan. To be doubly sure I'm asking again, "any Travel agents in NS"?????

The reason I ask is because I need to buy a one way ticket to Australia. I've read here on the forum that there is a "Thai Airways" office in Pitsanulok but I,ve read they charge like "wounded bulls", I was told to buy from a travel agent at a cheaper price. Any travel agents in Pitsanulok or provinces close by???? I've been told to buy over the internet but unfortunately I'm not one of those people that carry computers in my back pocket or that much "computer savvy"

The next best thing is to go to BKK which will be a pain in the bum.

Can any body offer any advice. :D

  5. in NS

In November I wish to open a savings account in Nakhon Sawan (with ATM card & Internet access) in preparation for retirement at a latter date.

I will be on a 60 day tourist visa with letters of introduction from my Australian bank & government employer. Obviously I will not have a residence certificate, work permit etc. I would prefer a branch in the Pak Nam Pho Kosi Rd/Sawanwithi area.

My research suggests doing so can be abit hit and miss. Any advice as to which bank to try and how to do so would be much appreciated. I have heard Kasikorn or Siam Commercial may be easier than say Bangkok Bank? Are banks in NS bureaucratic or not?

I didn't have any problems at Kasikorn either, it would be a good idea to take your Thai wife/partner/friend, it does help. I've held my account for five years now and send/transfer money fromO/Seas.

    Good luck :o

  6. Haven't been here for a while so can some one point me in the right direction.

Several years ago my wife and I used to fly into phuket airport (6am Sunday morn) and hire limo to take us to see the folks in Surathani, (approx. 3hr drive, cost approx. bht 4500).

This year we are flying into the new airport (1st time ), can some one quote me to travel from Suvanbhumi to Nakhon Sawan, (again approx. 3hrs). ETA approx. 6am Thursday morning. I don't see the limo add any more, that's why I'm posting.

We could take the train but that doesn't leave untill about 8am and if we miss it the next one is at about 11am.

I don't want to waste another whole whole day travelling, and I don't want to rent a car because i don't know my way around.

If the limo hire is available, where in the new airport??

We intend to travel mid December 08.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. :o

  7. I have been coming to Nakhon Sawan for 8 years now and on my first trip here I spoke to a guy in town who said there were 6 farangs who lived here permantly.8 years on I now live here and see more and more farangs around town and big c etc.

Could anyone hazard a guess at how many of us live here?

    regards

    Madyakka :o

G'day to you all who live in Nakhon Sawan. I will eventually move here once I've stopped working. Wife and I are slipping up for a few months at the end of the year to start on the house. I've been coming to NS for the past 20 odd yrs. We're contemplating to build behind the Army Brks and not far from BigC (just across the bridge) I think it might be a good idea if the farangs got together and formed a club of sorts. Any more ideas or suggestions, it would be something to keep ones' mind occupied. I don't plan to work in thailand. There are a number of exchange male and female school teaches I have seen and spoken to very occasionlly, from the usa. A meeting place could be set up at the book shop if that's a start.

  8. totally legal. The embassy wouldn't let you apply if it were any way illegal to have more than one passport.

I've got two passports, Australian and Thai. The embassy has been very helpful to me in the past on all of this stuff.

Samran you seem to have the "bull by the horns" on dual nationalality.

I wonder if you can help me out a bit further regarding the 2 passport thing. My wife (Thai) has to go home later this year for a extended period and I've told her that she can leave on one PP and enter Thailand on her new digital PP. However, being a typical Thai female, she insists on asking her Thai girl friends and getting conflicting answers. Is there something written in Thai on official letter head that she can read herself and help put her on the straight and narrow and then I can stop tearing my hair out. Also in Thai all those official sections relating to farangs having to report every 90 days/24hrs at residence etc.

Much appriciated if you can help me out. :o

  9. I know a few guys who have been here a long time and trade in their girlfriend every 2-3 years. I know a few guys who have been married over 20 years and a couple over 30 years.

Mrs.Neeranam and myself have been married 6 years(today) and I've never thought of trading her in. 6 years and two kids later, everthing is great, and getting better everyday.

How long have you been with your Thai partner?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being married to only one person?

:o Congratulations :D We are into our 23rd yearof marriage. Many advantages and many disadvantages but after all those years I too, wouldn't change anything. We're both in our late fifties early sixties and living life to its fullest. :D

  10. I've noticed that many TV members are rather hesitant, to say the least, to fill-out personal info. about themselves in their 'home' page on T.V. I've tried looking at several pages of TV members only to find NO info about themselves, such as hobbies, location, age, etc. I personally would find it very useful to have such info to view whenever I go to a TV members' personal page. This can give a mental 'picture' of the TV member for others to see. Unless, of course, the TV member has a reason NOT to, I suppose?

Any supporters of this thesis out there? :o

:D I'm too lazy as well, and not only that, I'm not too computer savvy about how to add certain things, I do a lot of reading but not enough posting. On the other hand, can't we we keep a little privacy about ourselves. :D

  11. It appears many posters on here are living with their girlfriend/wife in Thailand but I'm curious to hear from anyone who has taken their girl back home or even better she has moved there. Any comments from blokes in the west welcome but especially Aussies.

Background: My girlfriend arrives in 2 very long days time on a 3 month TV. Not sure if this will help but… I am 29 she is 27 and she is dark skinned (not from Issan but looks like it). Her English is not perfect but is quite reasonable.

I am asking as I am very serious about her. I know people here have had/have their girl living with them in their home country (and obviously very happy) but I really want to hear some details of what it's like day to day. I know I'll find out over the next 3 months (and hopefully longer) but really want to hear other people's thoughts.

How does she find it, how did she adjust, did she miss family/friends badly, did you experience any harassment from people about having a Thai lady, what differences from living with a western girl, what did she think about the weather (I live in Melbourne so hopefully she'll be in too deep if she comes next winter :D ) ? Anything else.

:o G'day mate, I've read the whole thread, (that's about all I do nowadays), most advice is good. My wife and I are into our 23rd year of marriage and 24th year in country, I must addmit, even though she loves living here, her heart is still in the kingdom of Thailand and has told me many times that she intends to return to her beloved country. Whilst your gf is here you should show her a good time but don't throw money in her lap, show her how to be frugal in this counrty. Chok Dee. :D

  12. :o Quick and easy way is with a voltmeter, it won't however tell you how good your ground is, for that you need specialist kit :D

    You should see:-

    220V Live - Neutral

    220V Live - Ground

0V Neutral - Ground (up to about 10V is acceptable, you'll rarely see 0V).

Do you have an ELCB / RCD / RCCB / GFI / Safe-T-Cut? If not I suggest you get one installed, it will improve safety significantly.

You also should have a MEN link in your consumer unit (it links ground to incoming neutral).

Have a look here :- http://www.crossy.co.uk/wiring/ for some useful information (including what an MEN link is), post here if you have further queries.

:D G'day again, I'm going to build a house at the end of the year, and I have been reading (as much as I can) the forum on various aspects of hous biulding. I'm not a builder or an electricion, so what are ELCB / RCD / RCCB / GFI / Safe-T-Cut? and what does each do, where do I find (shops) these things and how does one tell the builder/elect. that these are required.

Regards and thanks for the answers (more questions will no doubt follow)

  13. This bit I can answer. Go to your local Amphur office, most have a bunch of 'free' plans for you to peruse, usually just pay for the cost of duplication.

Or try here for government approved plans ready to build http://www.crossy.co.uk/Thai_House_Plans/

If nothing else these free plans are a good source of ideas to give to your own architect, we are building a No 27 with a re-vamped roof style (the Missus required that) and an extra workshop and laundry room downstairs (I require that) :D

Many thanks Crossy, good site, will show my other half, and at least that's a start for me.

    Thanks :o

  14. Planning permissions seem to vary in Thailand from place to place, some areas require nothing whatsoever other than a nod from the village head. Other areas require, if recent post data is to be believed, formal applications and I would like to understand if there is an accepted procedure for this. I intend to build in the South later this year and wonder if anyone can shed light on this subject.

Good question chiang mai, my wife and I are planning to build in Nakhon Sawan at the end of the year. I have the same questionable problem, my wife has been told to go to the "tessa barn" and get official permission. My further question is to any one out there, does anyone, coming from Nakhon Sawan, know of what to do ?? Anyone that has built a house in that province, know of any reputable builders there ?? Also does one need to have a housing lawyer be involved with contracts etc. where does one obtain housing plans from ??

Thanks to the people who can advise me on these details. :o

  15. My wife’s Mother wants to divide the land in the village and on the rice farm within the family. Anyone know the Thai law on a Thai national, that has changed citizenship, able to hold land title in their home village? I know farangs can not buy land in Thailand, but can she inherit it, legally? I have not been able to find other posts on this subject.

    Thank you

    Chung *j*

Also make sure she still holds and has a current Thai ID card, and later on this year most Embasssies will start issuing E-passports :o

  16. :o Some travel information needed if anybody can help. My wife and I are flying into Phuket and will land at approximately 6 am on a Sunday morning. We need to travel to Suratthani (family), what would be the best mode of transport at that time of morning on a Sunday ??

I have been told to take a airport limosine as it is safer than a aircon bus, I understand there are no flights to Surat from Phuket. Does anybody know the price of a Limosine, considering the petrol prices nowadays. Or if one cought a aircon bus, where does one catch a bus to Surat and what are the times of departure on a Sunday.

Any help would be appreciated. :D

  17. I fly in and out of Phitsanulok every week or two with Thai to/from Bangkok, and the landings are always hard at Phitsanulok airport. I also notice looking round the cabin that I am not the only one to breath a sign of relief when we have landed and are rolling up the runway, so I figure its a regular occurrance? It must be a matter of time before they burst a tyre there? Just an observation.

:o I agree, My wife and I flew from BKK to Suratthani several years ago and the plane took off from Don Muang as though it was a rocket to the moon and when it landed at Surat, it landed so hard it bounced several times and everybody on board nearly had heart failure. IMHO some of the thai pilots seem to "jet jockeys" with no regards to the paying customers.

  18. Nice pics Kan. I knowwhere they were taken from but I've never been up there!!

    RC

Yes Kan Win nice pictures, we will be in Nakhon Sawan Xmas/ New Year.

Will get in touch with you guys, so we can meet up some place and meet each other.

Were the pictures taken from "wat keow godp", with at least 100+ stairs to get up there ???

  19. Right! ....back again, been to watch my beloved Birmingham City get beat at home by an average Man City.

Well thanks for all the advice so far, we are not married and if i really think about it I reckon she loves the top of the range Nokia more than she loves me!

I understand that she needs to feel some security, at the same time, so do I. I quit England to come here at the age of 36 ( she is 23) I am not a GBP millionaire so I still have to work and provide food for both of us. The pressure is well and truly on me to make sure we have enough to see us ok for long term.

I got her a job through a business partner and she earns around 5000 a month and i match the money that she works for baht for baht. 10,000 baht a month makes a girl in Khon Kaen practically "HI SO". the average wage here is 5k a month for a 6 day a week office based job.

Ws dont live near to her parents, their in Nam Phong about 30 clicks North of KK.

    Anyways....

In the UK i have been plain broke and had girlfriends who supported me through real hard times. Now times are better I find myself with somebody who appears to be driven by cash. I dont think for one minute that this girl would stay with me if i had no money, no house, no car, she says she would but i just dont believe her.

Time to say goodbye I think :D

:o I whole heartedly agree, time to find some one more genuine sincere.

    Best of British Luck :D

  20. Hi people, this topic could be a follow-on from the previous topic of "how did u meet ur Thai wife" I should have posted this yesterday however, I'm happy to tell the world that my wife and I have passed a significant mile stone on the 15th of August 2005, our "20th wedding anniversay"

Lets hear from some others who have been married for "ages" and have a Thai marrige certificate to prove it. It's been a hard journey with a few bumpy patches but I reckon we could still see another 20, lets hope so. :o

  21. :o G'day folks, I must say that this is a very interesting topic/thread. When my wife and I visit the family in the Kingdom we try to stick to a budget. IMHO I don't think there is anything wrong with being a bit fugal with ones money when on holiday, or even taking the family out to dinner or even living there, after all, money doesn't grow on trees, and the quicker the Thai people realize this the better Thailand will be. Just because I am a Farang and can afford (because I've worked hard and saved), it doesn't mean I have to splurge it around. Unless ofcourse one is employed by an American company and has an allowance as long as ones arm. I also hate tipping (just another legacy from the US of A ) and like some one said " it's not compulsory. :D
