- From the city, follow all road signs for Doi Suthep (Route 1004)
- At Phucome Hotel (intersection of Route 1004 and Route 121) turn right at the traffic lights, following signs for Mae Rim and Chiang Mai Sports Complex (700 year stadium)
- Count the bridges over the canal approximately 250 meters apart. You need to turn left at bridge 5, signposted in English and Thai "Star Palace Condominium"
- First bridge from the traffic lights (a right turn) is just before "The Oak Restaurant"
- Second bridge (a right turn) is controlled by traffic lights. Before the lights you will see 7/11 on your left and after the lights you will see "Fine Thanks on the Canal" restaurant
- Third bridge (again a right turn) - just after Diamond Place Condo (in English) on the left, a telephone box, and a soi with signposts to Asian Harm Reduction Unit
- Fourth bridge is on your left (after a sharp bend in the road takes you over the canal) and leads to Baan Ing Doi (shown in Thai language only - the bridge, leading to this gated community, is painted brilliant white)
- Fifth bridge, turn left, signposted "Star Palace Condominium". Go straight for 600 meters
- At T-junction turn right, following signs for Sang Serene House
- After 300 meters turn right when you see the sign for 'Centre of the Universe"
- GPS Co-ordinates: Latitude N 18 49.189 Longitude E 98 57.509

I had friends who are keen cyclists come to visit me in Chiangmai. They rented 21 gear mountain bikes in very good condition from
CACTI BIKE
94/1, Singharat Road, Chiang Mai
Tel: 053 212 979
Mobile tel: 089 757 9150
Email: [email protected]
My friends were very happy with the bikes for which they paid 350 Baht rental for each bike per day. I can't remember the brand - but my friends, who cpme from Germany, were ecstatic when they saw them., and said they were top of the range. They got puncture repair outfits; cycling hats and a few other bits and pieces thrown in.
The shop is on the corner of Singharat and Sriphum Road, diagonally across the moat from Computer Plaza and is owned and run by a guy called Sak, who speaks good English. He has ordinary bicycles (100 Baht for new and 50 Baht for well-run in models) and also motor cycles for rent.

There are 2 groups of people in thailand. Those who sit on a barstool everyday, and those who dont.
Ahh! The wisdom of age! And I say this with due deference and appreciation - my tongue is not in my cheek

I am new to Thailand and Thai Visa. During the short time I have spent here, and reading through previous posts on various topics, I have come to the conclusion that there are predominately 3 types of Expat in LOS:
1. The Sugar Daddy/Momma
Typically 60+ years old with a 29 year old boy, girl or inbetweenie in tow (inbetweeniefetishtoe?) Oblivious and doesn't care about how she/he/she-he-e-ite appears to the rest of the world
2. The Do-Gooder
NGO employee +/- Rich and Retired with nothing else to do but organise and attend charity dinners where 90% of the entrance ticket goes on stuffed aubergine and a glass of wine of dubious origin and the rest goes to the Deserving Cause. Especially active from now until the end of the festive season.
3. The Scrooge
Time stood still in 1959 for this baby boomer who thinks a loaf of bread should be delivered to your doorstep, wrapped in wax paper, for 1 shilling and 11 pence. Complains loudly about the increasing cost of living in Thailand but has no street cred. Thinks a fixed income of USD 100 per month should cover the cost of harem plus food and drinks.

What does any one else think? Please feel free to defennd/disagree or add/sutracgt to the list of stereotypes listed here/there/everywhere...
You're a black and white kind of guy.
Do-gooders are few and far between. Sugar daddies exist all over the world. The Scrooge is a daft stereotype to be honest.
You've got the free-radicals, the neo-hippies, the global tribe types, the freaks, the low-lifes, the thai-wannabes, the perpetual tourists, the semi-retired dude many more archetypes here in LOS.
How can three options be considered "black" and "white"? Isn't there a "grey" somewhere in here? I agree, however, with your additions to my simplistic stereotypes but don't quite understand your response "The Scrooge is a daft stereotype to be honest" I was referring to the types Thais call "keen-neow" - i.e. offer/pay less than the going rate for a proffered service.

Creative spelling, but boring content.
From your tag-line I think you should have more empathy with dyselxics...
Creative isn't empathic enough?
I, apparntly am dlxlesical, but shouldn't that be empathetical? Then you would make the point...

What happened to option 4:
Those who like to sit about judging everybody else.
Best response so far! At least you have a sense of humor!

Op, you are not only new to Thailand , but you must be new to the world.

At that price I'd want it filled with champagne with attendant mermaids.
Let's put your argument in perspective. In the UK you now pay upwards of GBP 3.00 for one pint of beer.
Do you want the long answer which you probably won't understand as you are incapable after slurping the champagne (or was it the mermaids?) or are you willing to accept the quick and dirty response?

Macro (wholesaler to retail, catering and hotel trade) on SuperHighway.
Thais travel for miles to buy their freshly baked croissants - and I bet some of the places listed in previous entries get them from there!
