  1. Double Post (Bkk Section) but still having visions!!!!

Thanks a million, I am still in SHOCK!

Come-on parents of young kids, you wouldn't chuck your dirty nappies on the floor at home …. Why here? Nice one!

Sat in my local pub tonight (Pedestrian road with bars and seated food stalls on both sides of the road) with the two local Soi Dogs at my feet (known for several years), well happy and talking to a friend when……. <deleted>… people in the food stalls opposite are gagging, people in front are moving tables and what do I see…. My two well cared for Soi Dogs playing tug of war, rolling around and EATING a well full with smooth peanut butter Huggies Nappy!!! My mate had to leg it to the bog, I nearly threw up, but to make matters worse (once the dogs owner had put her head out of her stall and split them up) they both came trotting back to me well chuffed with each other and tried to settle down. Jesus… they still had baby s**t all over their noses, paws etc…. they then trotted across the road to the food stalls……

Anyway, back to my rant……'parents dumping their dirty nappies', <deleted>, in a tourist area… thanks again……. Please come back !!!!!

You would have loved the "Run away from the dog show (done by the whole Soi)" as we would of all have loved to give you your Nappy back!!!!

    Please come back!!!!

  3. Victor from Image called me a couple of days a go to inform me that my Magneplanar speakers now have arrived from Michigan. I shall thus be going up to Bangkok on Friday to collect them.

I have decided to purchase the Denon AVR 3311 AVR Receiver and use it as my pre-amplifier together with the NAD T975 power amplifier that I recently bought.

The Denon AVR 3311 is sold here in Thailand for 57,500 baht but I have found a small shop that sells it for 49,500.

Hello everyone, first of all sorry about the double post, got all excited by 'Stgrhe' saying he has found a Dennon 3311 for 49,500 Baht (please pm me the shop name and location). I have just had some money exchanged from the UK and was hoping to pick up either the Denon 3311 or Yamaha RX-V3900 (anyone got a preference) from Piyanas. Unfortunately due to the exchange rate I didn't recieve as much as I needed therefore putting them both over my budget. I was then planning on picking up the Pioneer USX-LX53 this weekend as an alternative. Seeing 'stgrhe's post finding the Denon for 49,500 maybe I now have a choice. Has anyone any comments to make regarding the choice between the Denon or Pioneer.

    Thank you.

  5. Hi,

Can anybody comment on the following senario?...

I payed the downpayment on a condo to be constructed 2 years ago (Ananda Co.). Now, I've decided that I cannot follow through with the final big payment to complete the purchase. If I just walk away from the deal will I be in trouble the next time I land in Thailand? Thank you for any insight or knowlege, or anecdotes on this senario!! Louie.

  6. Hello everyone,

I have just purchased 1 Rai of land on the outskirts of Hua Hin and need to raise the level of the land by about 1metre, prior to letting it settle for about one year. I was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the cost of landfill soil per truck load? If so, do you have any contact names & numbers. Thank you very much.

Also could you also tell me the standard cost of building a wall (per metre), height approx 1.5m, block type (rendered) to surround the property? Again if you have any contact names / numbers they would be much apreciated.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your reply.

  7. Look like you not trust your self. Speedo in Thailand is just for decoration the dashboard. Can NEVER Trust on Odometer readings. Anyway you should see and check the condition of the car. This is much more important than ODO Readings. Servicing a BMW is no probs in BKK or Pattaya. Parts aren't expensive. If you go Isaan....... i don't know. Personally i never was in Isan, as is not see any reason to go there, spend my hard earning money on someones elses Family. Thailand for me is only Pattaya and Bangkok and for Phuket i take the plane. Of corse 318's are 4 cylinder and easier and cheaper to manienance. But 325 or 525 are much more fun to drive. LPG Coversation??? Find a good shop in Bangkok, not the cheapest one, who can do a proper istallation of the system.. A professional installaition is important to avoid later problems. Buy what you like and don't listen to peaples opinion who never drove a BMW.

Hi stingray, thanks for the reply. Too many to choose from, they all look good! And yes it will be a 325i. As for Issan, its where the wife is from but I was talking generally, i mean going on road trips and getting out of Bangkok. Can you reccomend places in Bkk for servicing? Also have you any views on ones with Toyota conversions (as long as they are done well?).

  8. Hi there, I have finally decided to buy a second hand BMW. I know they are expensive here and parts plus servicing may be a problem but I absolutely refuse to spend my hard earned cash on a boreing old Toyota Altis/Yaris or Honda Civic/City and I definately do not want a pick up. I want a bit of Style and Quality!

I have a budget of 450,000 Baht and definately want a 3 Series (318i-325i Auto). I have been on the Internet and there are literally hundreds to choose from (1994-98), spoilt for choice. Anyway to all you 2nd hand owners here come my questions,

    1) can you trust what's on the speedometer (km's) from a dealer? Pretty sure the answer is no!

    2) how are they for reliability?

    3) are spare parts easily accessable and are they extreamly expensive?

    4) are LPG conventions worth considering?

I suppose if you live in Bangkok and you break down then at least you may have a chance of getting it fixed without too much of a problem, but what happens if you break down on the way to Udon or some other place outside a city? This brings me to my next set of questions:-

I have seen a few with Toyota engine conversions, 1JZ, 1JZ Turbo, 2JZ, 2JZ Turbo etc. If these conversions have been done by professionals, would you consider this a better option for ease of maintanence, servicing etc?

Would you consider the LPG option?

I really look forward to your comments, thanks for your time

Ps I did try searching this site for any previous info but the search operation was not functioning!

  9. No idea about age limits for free kids.

There is no age limit for kids, it goes on Height Restriction!!

I would consider an 8 year old still a child, wouldn't you? Yet had to pay adult prices because he is tall. I considered it a rip off (forgot my driving licence) but he thoroughly enjoyed it which is what counts.

Pulsating jellyfish in a sound room with pumping ambient music was the highlight for me.

Ps. I was really looking forward to the Mermaid show (Temptresses of the Seas) but was thoroughly disapointed. Three chunky ungracious "Falang" Mermaids certainly would not have taken many ships and sailours to their doom. :)

  10. 1. an unrelated Thai individual inherits 100.000 Euro from abroad. How much tax?

Is there an escalation related to amount?

    2. a Thai resident, married to a Thai, wants to work on a time contract as commercial diver in the North Sea, English contractor

requires prove that no income tax is payable on such monies in Thailand.

How to prove? How to get written documentation?

In the old days (Registered self employed with card) you reciever all your earnings and then it was up to you to pay the "Tax Man" the apropriate amount on your 'declared earnings' and for some people pray you were never investigated. These days you will be "Taxed at source" and a percentage of your earnings deducted. It doesn't matter where you live in the world (Thailand, USA, Middle East etc) the UK companies (Dutch or Norwegian companies if in their sector) will still hold back a set percentage of your earnings for the Tax Man (they have no choice in this). This makes it your job (if you want the money back) to prove to the UK Tax Man that you do not owe him any money!!! "You don't live in the UK, you don't owe the UK Tax Man!!!

You say you are a Thai resident but obviously not Thai. Are you registered as an expat for tax reasons?, have you got ties to the Uk? Do you hold a Seamans book (days out of the country / days offshore).

Basically get yourself an accountant (you know you can afford it) and at the end of the Tax year (April) submit your forms and claim back the money.

As a Offshore Diver I am very surprised you are asking these questions, from day one you have been self employed and everyone you work with would have been able to educate you on this subject. Avoiding / paying the least amount of Tax is a favourite topic of conversation for all Seamen / Rig workers!

Anyway good luck and safe diving..

  12. Hi everybody,

I am looking at upgrading my condo's security and would like to replace my front door with some type of reinforced / Armoured door. By this I mean a door with steel lining and a veneer wood finish (or something similar). There is a place in Pattaya called Scorpoin doors which do steel doors with a wood type paint effect finish but they come in rather obscure Chinese sizes. They are 15cm's wider and 7cm taller than your standard door and I really don't wan't to start ripping out door frames and brickwork. Does anybody know of a company in Bangkok or surrounding area where I might have any luck? Cheers, I look forward to your replies.

  13. Hello Again,

Thank you for your previous help.

Question? On the doubble entry visa i was issued, i entered Thailand the following day and had 2months, then i extended 30 days, if i had done the visa run then i would have entered on my second stamp the day the visa expired but i did an extra 7 day extension in Bangkok (1900 baht) because i was due to leave the country for work. Work has been postponed so i have to do another visa run. Can this Thailand visa issued in Laos be used after the expiry date (11th May)?

    Thanks again for your help.....

  14. Hello Everyone,

I know this must be a commonly asked question but i still carn't find a straight answer. I have a

Doubble Entry Tourist Visa from Laos and am currently in Bangkok. I have already had a 30 day extension from the Bangkok Immigration Centre and am due to do a visa run for the second entry on the Laos visa. Question......Do i have to go all the way back to Laos Vientiane to leave Thailand and re-enter (Would i need to pay another $35.00 and enter Laos only to leave again) or can i go to any boarder ie. Poi Pet and just check out of Thailand into no mans land and then re-enter on the Laos Visa?

Thank you for any general infomation you can give me. Cheers.

  15. Hello car owners,

I need a bit of advice. I am currently in the process of looking for a secondhand car for myself but mainly the other half. Of course she has these grand ideas about New Fortunas, Vios and large 4 wheel drives. Hay, why not, I like them too! Only one problem! I am not going to shell out on a massive new motor with all of her infinate knowledge of motoring "8 hours" TOTAL.

Basically I am looking at spending a few grand (sterling). I have seen a variety of motors, all of them fine for her first years driving in Bangkok (not worried if she hits a few things). The one thing I do need though is reliability and easy access to parts and servicing. Which manufacturer would you reccomend, Toyota (the more expensive option), Honda (the not too keen option) or Mitsubishi (they look Ok option).

I myself have seen a nice Audi but due to the fact that spare parts would be almost impossible to find, never mind finding a garage that knew what they were doing I think I will have to forget that option.

Anyway lads, any advice on any of the above makes for parts, reliability and servicing would be great. Thanks alot,

    Sideshow.
