  1. There is also the local YMCA hotel, with rooms at around RM 80.00 per night. I do believe they take reservations. It is within walking distance from KL Sentral station. My Hotel also opened up 2 new hotels in this area. The rooms advertise for around 80 - 90 RM per night. The Korea Hotel is also nearby, but as it is on Jalan Scott, you may have to walk a couple of blocks to get to it. The rooms there, last I checked, advertised for RM 70 per night and above.

  2. You fill out a form at the US Embassy and have it translated and registered with the MFA and then are free to marry at any District Office in Thailand. Don't make it so hard. There is no need to travel to the US.

Oh, many thanks! I had forgotten about this post and hadn't logged in till today. Very helpful advice! Thank you. Certainly a vast difference from what I've read so far. :):D

  3. A tad unrealistic I think in a country where everybody lies to everybody else about almost anything. Whether not offering information is considered same same as lying is a moot point.

I agree. Besides, everything in Thailand is economy oriented. For a few baht, most problems fade away.

Personally speaking, I'm an American living and working in Malaysia. In one of my trips to Hat Yai I met a girl, who despite being half my age, captivated my attention - well-brought up, home-bred, mannerly, sweet. My problem is I have no time nor intention of going back to America to get any relevant documents describing my status, although I'm single. I have an old apostille stating my being single from some 8 years back, but that's about all, besides my passport.

So I'm looking for some friendly office who will bend the rules a bit and make things easier with less paperwork. If I find one, I'll marry her. But if it's like I'm reading here, so many rules and regulations, I'll either take her abroad where things are simpler and marry her there, or, not marry at all and simply forget her (extreme and painful as it sounds).

Right now I'm so fed up with Thailand's craziness, I'm inclined to take option # 2. But I posted this in case any ideas could be shared.

  4. Hello!

One of the nice moderators of this informative board suggested I post this for better results.

I am an American Professor who plans to be in Thailand some time soon. I'm looking to make friends with a nice lady (or ladies) who will be willing to meet me, guide me around, help me with some potential problems, and so on. Basically, something of a "guardian angel". She doesn't have to speak good English, I can help with that. This is my first trip and being new, this helps to ease my mind about a number of hassles. Since I don't know anyone in Thailand, I would appreciate using this venue to make new friends and seek assistance.

I don't want to use dating sites for meet ups. I used to do this, but not anymore for a long time now.

Any interested ladies can either pm me, email, or simply post. You will receive a fast reply. I am aiming at making some acquaintance before I arrive so that we would be better able to know each other a bit online first, in order to feel more comfortable when the time comes.

    Thank you so much!

  5. Hi Torrentstorm, welcome to thaivisa.

The meet up threads in this section (ladies forum) are usually aimed towards expat & thai women to meet up, network & make freinds, not for men looking to meet companions/guides etc.

Also as the thai women who do post here have excellent english & generally work full time in professional roles they probably wont have time to act as a guides. (But you never know) That said, there are often meet up threads arranged in the BKK, Chaingmai & Phuket sub forums where the men & women of thaivisa meet each other & posting on those threads may lead you to further contacts for guides & assistance.

Our meet up thread is pinned, just at the top of this page.

    :o

Aha! Good idea! Thank you! I'll post a message on those forums and see what happens. Many thanks! :D

  6. Welcome to the forum lynd.

We have a pinned meet up thread & also there are thaivisa meet ups arranged in BKK forum all the time. I have heard good things about the womens groups in BKK but ok they may not be your cup of tea completely but they will be a way to network other women & then once you have made those connections, more potential friends/meet ups will become available to you. Go for it. The worse that can happen is you hate it & never go again but at least you gave it a chance :o

Hello! I am new to this board. I've noticed this thread, and I'd like to ask: where is this thread that one can use for meet ups and make potential friends? I couldn't find it.
