  1. Does anyone have any insight or experience in this? I'm married to a Thai national. We got married only in the U.S., in California, and not in Thailand.

We both want a divorce after 15 years, it's amiable and we share a son together.

Do we both have to go back to California to file for divorce or can this be done from Thailand?

    Appreciate any feedback!!

    Thanks

  2. If you want to learn to DJ I can teach you no problems. Several years experience playing at huge dance parties including Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher Australian tours and warmed up for a lot of international producers & djs.

Hi Akirasan, do u still DJ for events? We're looking for someone for an event in February in downtown Bangkok. Please reply to <snip> in case you get this message....thanks!

  3. Just be prepared for the potential of your flight being very very delayed in both directions. The airline doesn't seem to worry about on-time departures. Every time I fly them I have to wait at least an hour longer than their schedule. Because they're a discount airline I'm not so sure they give a ..........

I'm about to book a couple of tickets from BKK to Bali for the end of August beginning of September.

Although the price has gone up from last week, when I looked on the Airasia website, the planes are still 3/4's empty.

Do the prices ever go down nearer the date?

Also, are the "priority seats" at the front and by the emergency exits any bigger or do have do they more leg room?

Or is it just that they enable you to get on and off the plane quicker?

You only pay a few hundred baht extra and a I wondered if it was worth it :)

  4. I've been contacted by a graphic design studio in the U.S. that needs strong upload speed if they're to establish an agency in Bangkok. The best I can find is 2 megs/2 megs (down and upload speeds). I've looked at Hughesnet, the guys that have satellite bandwidth capabilities but they seem to be focused on Indonesia an India, both rural and urban, rather than Thailand.

Any thoughts or help anyone can give me would be appreciated!

  5. Why are they allowed to have the essential to carry on their demonstrations?

I would only be guessing but I would say that they have the support of some very influential people.

The sun is setting on an institution and the other has overstepped their traditional boundaries...and we're all caught in the middle of it. If you read Thai history it will all make sense to you. Meanwhile, the poor remain uneducated either way.

  6. in my humble opinion, this is an on-going struggle between two institutions that will remain nameless of course...ever wondered why some urban middle class people with plastic hand clappers can walk into so many places and just take them over without being touched? Wonder who finances them? The sun's setting on one of the institutions and they don't like it at all...we're caught in the middle of the struggle. Vote buying has been around forever here but it was a good excuse to kick out someone who overstepped their traditional boundaries. Meanwhile the poor remain uneducated and life goes on. I played a wonderful round of golf yesterday and had a totally killer french meal downtown. Now going to a thanksgiving day party...welcome to wacky thai politics. Just my opinion..lol

  7. Formerly from SF...Thai Terrace in Sausalito is relatively authentic...small place opposite Cafe Trieste.

If you're thai you can normally speak with the kitchen help who might be from Issan and tell them that you're thai and want thai food cooked for thai taste. Normally they'll cook with lots of sugar for american's idea of what thai food is. Overall though, there isn't a really truly authentic thai restaurant in my opinion in SF or the Bay Area because most thai's won't eat out at a thai restaurant...they cook better and to their own taste at home...and a thai restaurant wouldn't necessarily survive if they made real hardcore thai food. U can also try the Wat in Berkeley. I think of saturday or sunday they have an outdoor food court that's a sort of potluck.

  8. I firmly believe that the PAD has become a cult.

    Cult
typically refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding population considers to be outside the mainstream, with a notably positive or negative popular perception.

A group's cult status begins as rumors spread of its novel belief system, its great devotions, its idiosyncratic practices, its perceived harmful or beneficial effects on members or its perceived opposition to the interests of mainstream cultures and governments. Persistent rumors may follow relatively small and recently founded religious or non-religious groups when they are perceived to engage in excessive member control or exploitation.

I think it's a power struggle between two institutions, both of which aren't that different than the other, or at least haven't been in the past until one of them overstepped their required boundaries recently. How else do u think some middle aged women and old folks with plastic hand clappers have been untouchable in this saga? Meanwhile, both institutions are quite happy to let the poor remain uneducated.

The PAD fits this description completely.

The leaders of PAD have used the innate love for the King and dislike for Taksin within its followers as a starting point to manipulate and control the minds and actions of its members.

    What do you think?

  9. I just brought over two Weber bbq grills..propane as well....just go to www.bbqthai.com , go to their location off Suk, unscrew your hose from your grill (same size as what they sell at that bbq store..where they sell aussie bbq grills) and u can buy a new hose and fixture that works for the thai propane tank requirements. Cost me about 1500 baht...works beautifully. Hope this helps....it was easy. :o

  10. How selfish can you get worying about your own finances over the future of a country.

such comments are reminiscent of the grey faced socialist dinosaurs who presided over some of the eastern european communist states as they slowly sank into oblivion.

the finances of businesses operating here are inextricably linked to the future of the country.

thailand needs businesses that are successful , and needs those who are prepared to risk the investment needed to start up those businesses.

Absolutely, how can a country survive and prosper if foreign investment and jobs go elsewhere. If the upper classes are thinking they can milk the lower classes for money once foreign investment has left these shores , then they better put their expectations down a notch or two.

This time things have too far and credibility is going to be hard to restore, both internationally and domestically.

This isn't about the "people" on either side of the coin...it's two institutions fighting for survival....both not so different than the other really, while the poor remain uneducated. Why do u think this is so darn wacky and a bunch of middle aged women and old people can organize and walk in anywhere they want and no one touches them...enuf said.

Greetings from a transplanted farang from San Francisco now living in Windmill Estates in Samutprakarn. Any other forum members in here living out here? I've met five or six other families in the estate and look forward to getting to know more. Peter

  12. Actually i read somewhere, I believe it was on Bangkokpost.com that PAD may consider shutting down the power and water for Bangkok..... Oh man, i hope that really doesn't happen, because if it does, I'm sure the serious cavalry will roll out and all hel_l will break loose!

The union is on PAD side. It is more likely that they shut down electriclity and water to Bangkok than shut down that at the airport.

I remember watching the news, showing an electric worker raising a hooked pole to disconnect the supply of electricity to parliment to stop a session last week. It was quite easy. The connectors of the 3 live wires is designed to be easily disconnected, I guess for safety reason, like if a branch fell on the wire.

This all goes alot deeper than the PAD as a group of people which explains really why all this goes on so curiously. enuf said.

  13. Any recommendations on where to buy the large electrical transfomers you see on the government power poles in samui. I know there is private companies that sell them other than the government electric in Nathon.

    Thanks
