  1. Hello,

I really would appreciate anyone's insight on the possibility of getting married in Thailand or another Country with my fiancé.

We had planned to get married but have come across a Myanmar Law which prohibits marriage between a Non Myanmar citizen

and a Myanmar girl. We came across this when finding out what we needed in terms of affirmation to marry and it may be that the

Myanmar Embassy may not endorse her affirmation.

If this is the case anyone can shed light on either Cambodia, Vietnam or Indonesia would be a suitable alternative to register our marriage.

    Thank you

  2. I was married to a lovley Thai teacher however she had a boy and a girl in their 20's who both had babies with their respecitve partners. End result she had no time for me for her children left the babies with her and went to the Phuket and Krabi to continue their work. Her Dad got cancer and with school and the temple and me working 4 hours away end result after 3 yrs of separation we decided or she decided that divorce was the only solution.

Her daughter got onto yaba with the father of her kid and ended up 4 years in prison.

Eventually ex-wife handed the babies to the grandparents of the babies not hers- could not cope with teaching.

Stick like glue to your wife and let the kids do their own thing without pulling you down with them.

As I said before work with her parents on a suitable weddding and getting him a job that he will stick at- find out what he likes hopefully with his wife to be that will keep him in line instead of flirting with others.

  3. Carken- good to know her parents are now involved and will assist them that is the best way forward. Before I read your posting I was thinking that his biological father may be able to straighten him out- not getting involved with the past however he might just listen if he is around. If her parents want the marrage and the kids are ok with it then perhaps a joint effort would ease the tension and he will be on his way to a bright future. Good luck sir.

  4. The Army took over Thailand not the Police howevever the police are to carry on with their duties their responsibilities and maintain their lifestyles- thus no disruption with the legal side of things allowing the Judiciary to carry on.

Note whatever you hear see or feel best not to run with social media for the future is not certain and not guaranteed speculations discussed on a face to face basis is fine but putting your neck into the noose is not quite the thing to do.

Let us see what eventually transpires with the Thai justice system.

Trial by social media is quite akin to a lynch mob- you never know the ultimate motives behind the postings.

  5. TAT's definiton of Quality tourist is clearly those that can effectively contribute to TAT reaching its revenue targets- there is no mention at all of the perceived class of the tourists- in effect anyone who has the disposal funds is considered quality all mafia included. Yes top restaurants top hotels they all require payment and no one cares where you got your money from- TAT will bend over backwards grovel at your feet to hit its financial targets.

Posters on here we look at quality from a different perspective- Thailand sees money as the key to freedom nothing else matters at the end of the day it is "quality image" fur coat nay nickers is not a problem.

  6. Build International jet-set style casinos and watch those that head to neighbouring countries actually spend serious money in LOS. Do not get int tow with the mafia allow the revenue to filter down to the communities and the country will reap the benefits.

Stop encouraging Thais to think that all foreigners are walking ATMs.

Do not have double pricing standards one for Thais and one for non thais

Be honest do not think up get rich quickly schemes

Plan a long term strategy, monitor it and do not forecast ridiculous targets to satisfy your own ego.

  7. Whether or not we know the whole story is immaterial in this particular case.

The teacher used a cane presumambly the cane is considered as being an instrument of discipline and is used under fixed guidelines.

This is not an opportunity to discuss if canning was good or not good in the past in the UK etc this is clearly about the teacher deeming fit to use a cane on a 9 yr old boy who did not hand in his homework. Does the Headmaster approve of this approach and were parents made aware of this form of discipline.

Personally on the face of it the teacher did not apologise and categorically stated he had to use the cane this seems to me to sticking to his guns for he knows he is in the wrong. A parent who was aware of any stated discipline procedure would not have gone to the teacher or to the police. The Headmaster should be called in to the police station and the facts revealed about the school procedures if the teacher acted in such an irresponsible way and caused bodily harm to the child then the appropriate action needs to be taken to suspend the teacher have an inquiry and face the criminal charges.

  8. Would it not be far better for  those on a Multiple Non Immigrant (O) status to report to their local immigration office and pay 1900 Thai Baht rather than travel to border crossings leave the Kingdom to arrive into a neighbouring country for a visa on arrival then return to Thailand and get stamped for another 90 days?

Tremendous revenue is filtering away from Thailand the holders of the Non O do not wish to acquire an extension of stay based on marriage they tend to travel out of the country but not always 90 days.

The holders have to bear the burden of travel, fatigue as well as costs at hotels.

I state 1900 Baht rather than US$ 35 for extension is 1900 Baht.

  9. Hope the woman has not lost her child if so then due process should take place not only jail deportation and blacklisted. He was drunk or on drugs however to see someone on the street and kick her gives the impression that he thought the woman should not been on the street and like litter kicked her. From the markings he had yes he fought the police and thankfully he has the markings to prove the complete idiot he is. NO SYMPATHY.

  10. Common sense, in fact the essence is exactly what the purpose of the rules are if you are suspected

so clearly you can leave it in the hotel safe and prove its existence to the police on demand.

The problem is the Nation newspaper if this latest news is correct then the paper should offer a formal apology to all tourists and expats for creating a sensational story that would have strong ramifications for the tourist industry.

For ages we have all been aware the inaccuracies of news reports and how people have believed every word.

The journalists need a damn good kick up the backside and not confuse issues if they are unable to understand English.

I for one will continue to carry a copy of my passport

It should be noted that a certified copy is not an option as i was intending to go to Immigration on the 4th August and would have been furious to find out they had no idea what i wanted.

  11. Agree 100% with you connda regarding schools that offer to provide a WP.

My own position is that the school provides the paper work and i pay for my own WP.

In my opinion it is better for a teacher to search for schools that do not pay for a Non B as well as the WP.

Target reputable schools and do not try and be smart by being illegal one day you'll get nabbed.

  12.

The problem here is that the schools are incentivized by the government to hire illegal workers.

    1. There is, to my knowledge, no penalties being assessed to the schools / employment agencies for hiring illegal workers.

    2. Schools have told me that is expensive for them to file the paperwork to make someone legal and is a long drawn out process.

As long as the school keeps their teachers working illegally, they have no rights to sue (eg: suddenly the school doesn't need and breaks the contract).

So if you're a school or an employment agency and don't really care about keeping a teacher for the long term, it makes more sense financially to keep your teachers illegal.

The way to fix this would be to penalize the both the teachers and schools / employment agencies for allowing teachers to work illegally.

On the flip side, if a teacher entered an employment contract and the employer fails to supply the documentation for a B visa and WP, the contract is illegal and unenforceable.   Personally my recommendation to teachers who are working illegally.  Pack up and leave immediately.  Go to work in a different country, or for a reputable school.  If you in in negotiations with a school, write right on the contract, "I will not teach or enter a classroom without a B visa and WP."  If your first day of school comes around and you have given the run around, don't teach.  If they threaten you, call their bluff.  Walk.  Just make sure the contract you sign says they will supply you with the necessary documentation to obtain a B visa and that they will have your WP prior to your first day of class.  Insist on it.  If you can't get it - walk.  They risk nothing much.  You risk jail, a fine, and deportation.
They will prey on you're ignorance -- so don't be ignorant.

Ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever.

  13. Within my school there is a pedestrian crossing and the parents and teachers when dropping off their children totally ignore the presence of the crossing. Once parents play their civic duty to obeying the rules then the parents will be good role models. That is a huge mind shift. If that can be done then the kids of tomorrow will be instilled with inner discipline and care for others understanding the practicality of the golden rule and ethics.

  14. The officers are doing their job by following the rules. In any new set of procedures there will be those that do not comprehend exactly to the letter what is required and the innocent individuals will get their balls chopped off. There has to be a statement from the Embassies and Consulates what the exact rules are. It is beyond belief that in an age looking for transparency the final say is an officer who can determine yes or no to entry. When you allow individuals to act on a whim of their choosing then you give an opportunity for corruption to creep in. Be consistent and let everyone know what is the law in Thailand. I took a days leave to go to Immigaration and then was refused an extension of stay based on teaching though i had a valid work permit and was on a Non O (multiple). You have been teaching for 7 years but you are not in our system. Obviously not for i am on a Non O and do not have to report to immigration i leave the Kingdom every 90 days. No you must got and get the houseowner where you stay to sign this form they must pay x baht i want also to see that you have paid your tax. I said i had to pay the tax and show it to the Labour office before i got my current work permit which expires 31st March 2015. No i want you to show me the receipt. Well went the following friday after taking another days leave and another officer no i don't need this. I looked at the previous officer and she showed no sign of recognition and ended up making the tea for her boss.<deleted>. So i went away with the understanding- why empower staff that do not comprehend the rules.

  15. The ladies only carriage idea is a good one.

So who gets in on what basis age or first come first served. Are you going to have a carriage half empty when the families want to stick together.

No this is just the first idea to be made their answer.

The facts are clear that SRT have been aware of staff drinking while passengers are asleep so no one can see.

The passengers are not to blame they act accordingly to the rules if drunk and abusive the inspector can ask them to leave the train.

I am still having doubts about what really happened.

He was drinking with others and managed to turn the lights off with NO ONE reacting.

This looks to me like a gang rape but i have no evidence only a hunch that the others that were drinking with him would also have taken the drugs and have been doing on other occassions for it seems a former drug peddler could still make money by using the train as a means of supplying his drugs.

So many loose ends with this story and the other two women did not report him not for reprisal but for embarrasement.
