  1. Special Cabinet Meeting Convened to Endorse Interim PM Chaovarat

    Source: TOC - 03 December 2008

This is a BIG mistake. Please get out before Swampy is closed again.

There is a discussion going on on amend the constitution to allow non MP to head the government (remember the old days of Anan, Surayuth, Suchinda). Guess who might that be? Sondhi? Chamlong? or worst Pojaman.

  2. Sadly will not make a difference for me anymore when the airport opens. I was supposed to fly the 26th of November, but all flights with Gulf Air and Emirates are fully booked until the 30th of December. Not even Business Class. So I'm screwed either way. I hope that some people will cancel by the 4th/5th of December so I can get a seat. I'll sit in the lavatory if I have to!!!!!! lol

I know 2,000 baht/day compensation do not go very far. Thai people who is affected get nothing.

  3. Chalerm is an OK guy. I would vote for him.

His sons is another thing. We all know that they as a55holes.

Someone mention that Maggie's son is a half witt. However she is a great dame. Or George Bush & George W Bush. Hence I have nothing against voting for a father/son just becuase his/her father/son is am a55hole.

  4. First lesson in crowd control: if you see a group of protesters/hooligans moving towards an no-go area, you make sure you block the roads toward it.

PAD's move from GH to the airports could not have been a surpriese. It must have taken them at least an hour to get there and hours to get fully mobilized! The police just let it happen!

This is something that I've been wandering all the time, how was that all possible?

perhaps they were lookng around to much for farangs without a helmet :o

Im surprised that people dont understand yet how it could happen. It happens very easily when:

    - you are under strict instruction not to use force

    - your boss agrees with the PAD action

ISnt it obvious by now that the police and military fully support this?

Very smart way of controlling PAD advancement to the airport. So the whole road is blocked up by PAD supporters cars/buses/trucks, and tail back a couple of miles. No passengers can go in and out of the airport. Airport will be closed automatically anyway.

  5. When a Thai is in a foreign country, does that make them a farang?

Whenever I hear a Thai use the word farang here when I am eating in a Thai restaurant in Sydney, I quickly remind them that they are the farang in this country................

Farang originate from the word France or French, one of the eariest caucassian (even though the Portugese arr before them). It generally mean WHITE people. Other foreigners of different colour are NOT called Farang................

We're way off topic but yes, presumably with the same origin as barang in Cambodia. Westerner is perhaps a better interpretation than foreigner. As you say, Japanese, Chinese, Arabs etc etc are not farang and so an American is farang if he's white caucasian but not if he's black or of asian extraction. Or so I understand.

That's correct. FARANG is the term to call White People, not black, jap, korean, etc. There is a term that Thai call foreigner: TANG CHART (other national). This term is widely used as well.

  6. One thing I do not understand is why did the PAD not just only wait for the court decision today to dissolve the PPP instead of this terrorist action at the airport. Can anyone explain that.

Things are a lot more complicated than just PAD versus government and UDD. Both sides try to create conditions for their advantage so they can maybe force something to happen or prevent something happening. It is all about pure raw power and some of the most powerful players are currently just sitting watching. They have the power to destroy one or both sides.

I can't agree more. PAD is pressuring the court to vote in their favour. The judges are people too. They know that not giving what the PAD wants will hurt the country, and there is a chance that they will give in.

  7. The PPP has no reason to fear new elections, as the Air Force chief pointed out...who will possibly defeat them? Aphisit and the Dems? Not without support from the North, Isaan and South.

Everytime after an election, the loosing will say the same.

"Let's have another re-election. There is no reason for you to fear, who will possibly defeat you."

Just imagine McCain saying this to Obama.

  8. The economy is in meltdown.

Take a look at those crowded streets full of cars now. Most of those cars will be off the streets just as they were in 1998 when the economy

Hey Thai people. I might be stupid and all we farangs are stupid.

    Grow up Thailand

When a Thai is in a foreign country, does that make them a farang?

Whenever I hear a Thai use the word farang here when I am eating in a Thai restaurant in Sydney, I quickly remind them that they are the farang in this country, and if they don't like being a farang, they can leave. They apologise (which is something I have never seen in Thailand due to the face saving device they use) behind a fake smile, but it makes me wonder, whenever I do this, do they get to experience what we experience when we are called farangs in LOS, or, does it just go overe the self-centered mongrels heads whilst they continue to think its okay to call us farangs in LOS but its not okay for us to do the same and that we are picking on them?

I agree with the last 3 words in your post.

Farang originate from the word France or French, one of the eariest caucassian (even though the Portugese arr before them). It generally mean WHITE people. Other foreigners of different colour are NOT called Farang.

Thai are not very racist (hey nobody is 100% perfect). Here are some of the name they call other colours (they means no harm in most cases):

KEK = India, Arab, and other darker skin asian like Malaysian.

    JEK = Chinese

    YUNG = Japanese

    AI MERD = Black

Ai KAN = Short for American

  9. barry i dont know if there getting money but i can tell you one thing there taking a lot of kids as well .

Thanks for the info. Using kids as a human shield is not acceptable.

In the UK, the parents can be arrested for subjecting their children to potential harm; like not putting their children in a proper child seat while driving.

  10. Please someone compile a list of TV memebrs who think that firing grenades into crowds of people is a self inflicted, fully deserved activity.

Was it Sunderland on the previous page who suggested "let's scare them" explanation for bombings. Isn't it terrorism - scaring people?

Why is only PAD moms hanging about the airport are terrorists and not the sick f*cks who throw bombs at them to make them go home?

Reds have tried to block the Constitution Court from this last hearing - how democratic is that, didn't they hear Thaksin preaching "everyone must obey the law" just two days ago?

Over 90% of people have trust in judiciary solving the conflict according to polls, btw.

IMHO, I believe it is not self inflicted. I also believe it is not the work of the RED. Have you not heard of the theory of "THE THIRD HAND"?

A third party provoke the 1st two to kill themselves. At the end, when both are dead or two weak, the third party rules.

  11. i have a thai family in korat where i stay for 6 months of the year and in the village where i live about 24 people including one in my family have just left to meet other people in korat and are going to the airport ,all in yellow shirts not sure who asked them to come , i dont understand anymore .

Do you know if they are being paid. Please do not speculate if you are not 100% sure. Thanks in advance.

  12. I am old enough to remember the good old days staying at the Strand in Rangoon. Burma was rich and prosperous filled with trade with the British, India, SE Asia and China. Burma was way ahead of Siam, set toward being a SE Asia supper power complimented with rich natural resources.

However one day, Burma decided to close its door and throw away the key. How very sad. I was one of those last ex-pat to leave, after instruction from H.O. to pack up and close our small but profitable business. I still return to Burma from time to time to visit old friends, local Burmese who worked for me. The sight I assure you, is not very pleasent.

I hope closing Thailand airport is not the first step toward the same path Burma have gone. I hope the Thai people are more sensible.

  13. I cannot believe that some Thai people genuinely want a totalitarian rule.

This...what is occuring now..is no longer about Thaksin..its about Democracy....One Man/Woman One vote, regardless of wealth, status and or creed how can anyone possibly be against such a philisophy

I used to think the same as you until six months or so ago.

I started reading up on Thai history and challenging my own (privileged and British) views of democracy.

I realised that there is more to rule by the people and for the people than "one person/one vote.

No, I do not want long term totalitarian rule.

I want to live as a guest in a country where the justice system

and the legal checks on politicians (and others)

are in place... before one person / one vote kicks off again.

There is a document in the Prajadhipok Museum on Ratchadamnoen

that nearly blew my balls off...

...here are two pages from it

I am not advocating anything - one way or the other -

but I wonder if the same analysis was done today, by an independent party,

as to what their recommendation would be.

But I hope that this does show that it is possible for some informed people

to be against the philosophy of one person / one vote in certain circumstances.

Time have changed. I have yet to meet a Thai that cannot read and write (unlike the old days). Even in the village, people have (AS)TV, radio and mobile phone. They are informed (some mis-information, but unavoidable anywhere in the world), and they CAN decide for themselves.

Time have changed. We need to move on, and not stuck in the time capsule. Else we will still be living on trees.

Not sure if the British Telegraph is a reliabale source or not. Some funny cut and paste are here:

The anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), which has illegally occupied Government House since August and now occupies Bangkok's two airports, has only limited support. ...

At Bangkok's international airport on Monday afternoon there appeared to be only a few hundred die-hards occupying one of Asia's most important transportation hubs. ....

On Sunday one of the group's leaders, retired Major General Chamlong Srimuang, met with police to complain about a string of mysterious attacks against his supporters. He was not arrested for hijacking the country's two most important airports. ....
