  1. 1) Truevisions and UBC are the one and the same - UBC was the old name, which turned to true.

    2) Buying a box and not paying Truevisions is illegal, and according to their last update - impossible.

    3) Check out Hua Hin cable - cheap, nice selection of channels.

    http://www.huahinexp...-television.htm

Is hua hin cable tv the same as : G-TV cable? When I look at the telephone numbers they are the same.

I went to their office for a connection at Palm Hills but they referred me to their office in Cha-am. I went there and they are willing to install on Palm Hills. Free installation and 3000 bht./ year subscription. They gave me their website and e-mail adress.

Website: www.charliecablechaam.com does not exist. Their e-mail adress does not exist. Does not sound reliable to me.

How is the quality of hua-hin cable tv?

  2. Thank you for your reply.

than I will not ask my second question in this forum

    Open to debate.

If you wish to use it to split a TrueVisions card then it's not legal as True have a paid second-card option, splitting Astro or one of the other non-Thai providers won't make it more illegal than it already is.

True are in the process of upgrading their encryption system from the rather dated and insecure Irdeto II so it may not work for long if it works now :(

  3. I have seen Yamtech RG splitter V6 for sale in Thailand.

The purpose is that you can view non FTA programs on several TV's with one paid for card.

Can anybody tell me if this is a legal practice?

  4. Recently I have installed a Vu+Duo box for receiving Thaicom 2/5 C and Ku band.

I have now from True the Discovery and the Planet channel in Thai language which I did not have before. The advertisements are in English.

I have searched the channels to see if there were double Disc. and Pl. but I do not find one. On the Vu+box I looked at Language settings, they are for english.

Anyone who could have a thought on this one?

  5. Because my ethernet connector on the Dreambox 500S did not work anymore, I bought a Vu+ DUO from Holland.

I have this box configured exactly the same as the DS (see insert below).

On the DS500 I get picture and sound as well as on an old receiver with the same settings.

On the Vu+ I do not get a lock on the satellite. I have tried many settings but in vain.

I must be doing something wrong but have no idea what? Anyone who can help me with this one?

FYI: I am also part of the Pli team.

Yes, I noticed this when searching the forum to find an answer to my problem first. I am impressed with what this team has been doing and still is. Chappeau!

I definitely will try the above once I get the ethernet connection to the box working, seems to be broken down.

In that case I will buy a new one here but it seems that mpeg2 is getting an older standard which the 500s supports only. I will be looking for a box supporting HD and mpeg4, any suggestions? I am a little concerned about getting a clone too easyli around here.

  7. Many thanks Senior Member

The C-band transponder was set at: 3409/444/V

The Ku-bandtransponder was set at: 1255/3500/V

I have applied your settings and everything is (almost) working fine. Signal from both satellites get locked, I can scan the satellites and receive many programs and services. Excellent advice. My question is: could I have found these settings in the Thaicom sites? I have been looking for them but cannot find these.

The problem I have now is that I can see all the FTA channels on the Ku-band but I cannot see the Truevision channels which are not free to air. I get a black or a vertical multi color stripe screen.

I have checked the CAM software, the system is reading the card, reports the correct cardnumber and says it is ok.

The receiver I brought from the Netherlands and it is not a clone. Software is: Open-PLI software 5 aug 2010 and CCcam 2.14.

To make certain the card was not ok, I tried again the original box with the card and I could receive all gold card channels.

  8. Dear All,

yes I tried with the C-band only, did not work.

Thanks for the information regarding the different directions of the dishes, makes sense, big help.

I will try the LNB settings asgiven above.

If this does not work, I consider buying the latest version of Dreambox 500 S here in Thailand. In this case, any suggestion where to buye reliably?

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions

  9. I wanted to see Truevision programs. Someone came and installed a dish and a receiver (Hitech TM 3q). Result: I could see these programs.

I wanted to see BVN since I am from the netherlands, sdomeone came and installed a disch and a receiver (PSI). Result: I could see this program and more.

I wanted to see all these programs via a remote but nobody could do this. A lot of changing cables, putting in amplifiers and splitters, result: broken stuff because of shorts, etc.

So, I looked into it myself and I ended up with the following configuration:

Sat A for Thaicom 5/2 Ku, Sat B for Thaicom 5/2 C, committed 2/1 DiseqC 2.0, Dreambox 500S with latest software version. Dreambox programmed for 2 satelites, AA Thaicom 5/2 E Ku, AB Thaicom 5/2 E C.

Result: When doing the automaitic transponderscan the system does not lock. Message to check cables, etc.

I tried everything but it does not work! When I disconnect the cable from the Dreambox and connect it ot the TM3Q I get the programs and , when I connect to the PSI box I get the programs and signal.

Oh, one little detail. Although both satellites should look at the Thaicom sat, (since I believe Truevision and PSI are on that satelite) I am quite convinced they are looking in different directions?? I live in Hua Hin

Anyone some ideas?? I would appreciate

  11. Here out in Cha-am I have been using ToT and Cat next to each other and compared their performance. At the end the CAT performance was better so I canceled ToT.

Concerning the international trafic, CAT was much faster. When pinging the connections I found that CAT were using much less servers all the way down to Europe causing less speed loss then ToT.

The firewalls in Bangkok and at the PoP internationaly are causing a delay there is nothing you can do about.

  12. I'm running a TP-Link ADSL+2 router on a MaxNet 2048/1024 connection to a ToT line.

My ADSL line's SNR (signal to noise ratio) shows an average of 30dB downstream, but typically only 7dB upstream.

The two-year-old 0.9mm phone line has been checked and rechecked, and apart from a minor background hum from nearby high-voltage lines, I can't see any problem between my router and the junction box on the main road (600m).

However, upload speed to servers outside Thailand are generally x5 slower than I expect. Could the low upstream SNR have something to do with the slow upload speed? If so, why is this problem only present beyond Thailand, and what can I do about it?

    Speed test to Bangkok server:

There is not too much you can do about because in Bangkok is a major firewall managing and watching the inbound and outbound trafic. This firewall is managed by CAT (communication authority of Thailand)

When pinging the international and national connections all the servers are shown thrue which the signal is going. When national these are about 5-8 servers. When international these can be between 20-35 servers. The major signal delays are found at the Bangkok servers (firewall) and the international PoP (first Point of Presence).

  13. We are a dutch family living in HuaHin Thailand. Currently we have an international health insurance from the Netherlands which we find quite expensive.

After a long search we have found the policy and costs of a French Insurance company called: APRIL Mobility. The policy is: ASIA expat policy,. For the countries: Combodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philipines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam.

But we realize, cost is not the only quality aspect. Customer orientation, readiness and availability are other important aspects to consider.

Does anyone have any experience with this company or other information??

    Thx. in advance

  14. Thank you for this information, well done.

I read from this order that a legal spouse can benefit from her husbands permanent residency (art. 2.19) but what in case of the spouse whose husband has a retiree visum? Does she need to have 800.000 bht in her bank account? Or can they use a mutual bank account? Or can she use the legal certified marriage certificate?

    thank you in advance

Your wife comes under 2.20 and yours is 2.22.

Marriage certificate is all that's needed and a non immigrant visa.

thank you for your very quick reply. I do have a mariage certificate, legalized by the duth foreign affairs and the Thai embassy in the Netherlands. It is in dutch however, does it need a legal translation into thai language?

    thank you again.
