  1. Whilst this is an horrific story I wonder if the facts are correct. If the lift fell from the 18th floor through 10 floors it would be at the 8th floor not the ground floor. Unless of course the ground floor is the 8th level and there are 7 underground floors.

However 16 injured suggests some form of braking motion otherwise they would be dead.

could be the power failure only occurred wheb they were at the tenth? problematic anyways..........glad to hear no one was killed......:jap:

  2. <BR>can we get some more examples so I can see what the problem is   <IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt= src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif"><BR>
<BR><BR><BR>yes agreed, i believe this type of problem needs to be assessed logically, using all pictoral evidence available to us.......judge if you could just refer to exhibit 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, .......................... <IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt=:D src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif"><IMG'>http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif"><IMG class=bbc_emoticon alt=:D src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif">
  3. If the PM does not crush the rebellion he will be criticized. If he does he will be vilified. He is in a no-win situation.

I'm glad we have such a good man in charge at a time like this. Look at some of the past PMs. Who knows what kind of bonehead will replace him?

Agreed...........history has a way of repeating iself, in this case the only difference is the lack of "bull at the gate" philosophy........though if it drags on the gates may be opened & the herd let loose to run rampant...

  4. Ibelieve that there can be love between a 45-year-old guy and a 25-year-old girl as well as I believe that there can be no love between spouses of the same age. Of course, I am aware that many (most?) marriages have more to do with money than with feelings and the financial status (mainly of the male) is one of the most important factors (no matter in which part of the world).

So maybe it is most safe to stay single all our lives long.

Let the victim rest in peace. [']

Im 42 & my beautiful thai wife is 26. & yes I have helped support her and her family when needed. However, im no way described as wealthy back home, in fact i just keep my head above water which she was fully aware of before we got married. I want for nothing when im with her family & its not my pockets being used to pay for things. in fact my wife has on many occasions aided me financially when my money has run out. We both dote on each other and are best friends. i say each to their own choices.

  5. Poor man; I think he was short for cash.

    He should have asked.

    LaoPo

....or got tired of paying ATM fees....or just got tired of people skipping the line and decided to skip himself :D:D

Probably would have got a great deal more cash for his dash if he knocked off a local 7Eleven, considering the raa-kaa they charge :):D

  6. The combination of extreme carelessness (sheer stupidness) fueled with excessive alchohol and 'speed', mixed with the chaotic traffic environment found on all Thai roads will no doubt lead to a deadly and in most cases fatal ending. This happens everywhere throughout the world, however, is highlighted in Thailand where there is an intrinsic and particularly blase attitude by many visiting farang that "she'll be right Jack". Just take a look at any intersection and its your "hel_l on wheels" or a start to Le' Mans. Stats like these don't surprise..... :)

  7. Can't do the time, don't do the crime.

I wonder what he'd got from the western powers if he committed crimes as a citizen there?

One example in Aust.. corporate businessman skims AUD$10M = THB220M gets 6 yrs serves less than 2 in a 4star medium security prison (comes with TV/DVD personal toilet etc) where's the justice here - same same but different :o

  8. Why not just have the govt' send out vouchers that can only be used at department stores?

Maybe govt pays B1,000 for a B1,500 voucher, consumer goes into store, maybe spending more?

Win/win/win right? Better than B2,000 in cash

You got it, cheques will arrive 2-3mths later, by then the retail price will be +30% minus gov directive of 10-20% equals a minimum 10% additional profit to stores yes win/win :o

  9. You do not need an agent, the process is real easy.

After you submit all documents to your embassy and get the affirmation letter, you will have to have it translated into Thai by a translation agency. Should cost about 300 to 400 baht a page and can be done in about 1 hour for the both of you. There are some on wireless road and opposite the Thai ministry of foreign affairs.

Next you go to the Thai ministry of Foreign affairs, consular department at Cheang Wattana road, there you have the documents legalised. This will take about 4 hours. Once the papers are legalised you can go to any amphur in Thailand (Khet in Bangkok) to get married. This will take about 30 minutes and you are married.

Congratulations to the both of you.

Hi, i also will be getting married in Thailand in March to a Thai lady, i am Australian.. 1st we are having a traditional ceremony for her family then having it legalised (civil wedding). Do i follow a similar process or is it slightly different because Im farang & she is a Thai citizen?? Any info would be appreciated,

  10. Afaik, blankets and stuff gets handed out most every year up north?

Others can fill in more info.

While I agree that people shouldn't be surprised and cannot validate the need for emergency help as I don't have a clear picture of recipient of the help and their situation. So I will wait with comments on the help itself for future posts.

In our village in Buri Ram blankets get handed out to the elderly every year, and then thrown aside when the weather warms up. By the time the next cold season comes around they are full of dirt and half eaten by insects. I visited our local district hospital last night, all the wards are full, and beds are lined up in every corridor and open area, some people are lying on mattresses on the floor. I saw an awful lot of monks there, they must really suffer in the cold.

My fiance' was complaining about the 14degrees she just endured in her home of Bung Bun, good luck she's back in BKK :o

  11. Good, they also should be horsewhipped for good measure.

    What a bunch of tools.

    You assume they are guilty

Do you actually live in Thailand? Do you integrate with Thais? Can you discuss things with Thais in their own language? Your response indicates not

You are obviously not very good at spotting humour. Anyway, what difference does it make if he lives in Thailand, integrates with Thais or can discuss things with Thais? Two people have been very stupid and have received somewhat disproportionate sentences indicating the imbalance of what goes down as the judicial system in Thailand.

The comment was aimed as much at the courts as at the offenders who were a pair of tools

Do you in your "life" in Thailand fully integrated with Thais discussing major events like this have any opinion yourself?

You response indicates a lack of life. I suggest you go get one, your local Walmart should be able to help.

Gee this Walmart sell everthing WOW :o
