  1. :o THERE IS ANOTHER OPTION,,FOR 7900BT YOU CAN BUY A GPRS MODEM FROM TELEWIS CALLED SOLOMON WHICH REQUIRES NO LAND LINE AND WORKS VERY WELL THE GREAT PART IS YOU CAN TAKE IT WITH YOU ANYWHERE. I HAVE USED THE SOLOMON FOR APPROX. 6 MONTHS NOW MAINLY DUE TO THE LOCATION WHERE I LIVE GETTING A PHONE IS OUT OF THE QUESTION AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH INTERNET. THE AIS INTERNET CARD RUNS APPROX. 900BT A MONTH FOR 450 HOURS OF TIME
  2. :o THE WIFE AND I ARE BOTH ON "OA" RETIREMENT VISA'S WITH NO MONEY IN ANY THAI BANK. ALL I SHOW IS MY US TAX FORM FROM THE US MILITARY SHOWING I HAVE OVER 65000BT PER MONTH INCOME AND THAT IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED ...WE ARE NOW GOING ON OUR THIRD EXTENSION WITH NO PROBLEMS . ALSO SOMEONE MENTIONED A AUTO ONE YEAR EXTENSION IF YOU LEAVE THE COUNTRY AND RETURN!!!THIS IS TRUE. MY WIFE LEFT FOR THE U.S. AND RETURNED AND WAS GIVEN A AUTO ONE YEAR EXTENSION ON THE RETIREMENT VISA.
  3. NOT SURE IF THIS WILL HELP YOU OUT FOR THE VA PAY BUT TRY "www.dfas.mil/money/milpay" or 175fincom.korea.army.mil hope this helps out i am also retired military and understand the money problem.

  4. I was told by the Thai Consulate in Portland Oregon that they could issue me the Retirement Visa based upon meeting all of the requirements, and that I would need to only report my address every 90 days for the first year..  Upon applying for the 1 year extension, I would need to show the sums deposited within Thailand and from outside of the country to obtain the extention...  Thus avoiding tying up the 800,000 until the end of the first year...

    Any comments???

I JUST RETURNED FROM BANGKOK IMM. , I ARRIVED AT 9:10AM MONDAY WITH A MEDICAL CERTIF. (50B), PASSPORT, APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF MY RETIREMENT (OA) VISA, 1099 (MILITARY RETIRED) TAX FORM AND LETTER FROM U.S. EMBASSEY (30US) STATING MONIES EARNED. I WAS OUT OF THERE AT 9:45AM WITH ALL EXTENSIONS AND MULTIPLE ENTRE THEY REQUIRED NO THAI BANK ACCOUNT DUE TO THE CONTINUED RETIREMENT PAY FROM THE MILITARY. THE FOLKS THERE WERE VERY HELPFUL AND GREAT TOO WORK WITH.

  5. Dear kind moderators,

I think poll feature in this forum is acting in very stupid manner.

If you click veiw result first , then you won't be able to vote?

That is why we have very few votes

Why the hellll is it like that  :o

That's the way the software works, not much we can do about it.. Note that it does say "Null Vote" on the button when you click to view results. The poll creator also has the option not to allow people to do this without voting.

Anyway, in the larger scheme of things, compared to one particular poll on the other side of the world last week I'd say you have a good chance of getting over this one a lot faster/easier. :D

(I voted for Chiang Mai by the way, but then again I live there. Not sure many tourist-only islands are that suitable long term, though I very much enjoy holidaying there. )

    Cheers,

    Chanchao

  6. Another question about pension:

    2) In the US you do not get a pension until you are about 65 years old. If I am still 50 years old - without a goverment pension, how can I show proof of income - what will THai immigraiton accept - for the purpose of the Thai retirement visa?

I HAVE JUST RECENTLY ARRIVED IN THAILAND WITH A OA RETIREMENT VISA AND IT WAS VERY EASY IN THE US TO GET ALL I HAD TO SHOW WAS TWO TAX FORMS SHOWING YEARLY INCOME VICE MONEY IN THE BANK. FOR EXTRA I INCLUDED TWO ATM RECEIPTS WHICH SHOW AVAIL BAL. THE VISA FOR BOTH THE WIFE AND I WERE ISSUED WITHIN 4 WORKING DAYS........EVEN THE POLICE REPORTS ONLY HAD TO SAY THAT THE LOCAL POLICE WOULD NOT RUN THE REPORT.
